XI'AN, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) — At the recently concluded Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Conference on Geological Cooperation and Mining Development and the 4th Belt and Road International Geoscience Conference, more than 600 representatives from geology and mining authorities in 16 countries, over 100 research institutes, and renowned Chinese and foreign mining enterprises discussed digitalization and green and low-carbon development in the mining industry.

This conference is one of the sub-forums of the 2025 Eurasian Economic Forum. HANGZHOU, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) — A team of Chinese researchers has achieved a breakthrough in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology, demonstrating how multi-rotor drones successfully exchanged instruments mid-flight while maintaining formation in strong wind conditions.

In a study published last week in the journal Nature, engineers at West Hui University demonstrated two quadcopters—a drone carrying a toolkit and a drone operator equipped with an extendable robotic arm—that successfully performed successive multiple docking maneuvers with an average error of 8 millimeters.

When one drone hovers directly above another, its propellers create a powerful downdraft that destabilizes the UAV below. Tests have shown that with a vertical distance of just 0.6 meters, the downdraft from the operating "thrusters" reaches over 13 m/s, equivalent to a "strong wind" of force 6 on the Beaufort scale.

TIANJIN, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) — The first batch of Chinese agricultural machinery exported to Central Asia from Tianjin through the bonded cargo leasing mechanism recently cleared customs and was sent to Kazakhstan.

The equipment, valued at approximately 5 million yuan, was supplied by China Textile Machinery and Technology Import and Export Co., Ltd. (CTMTC), and was exported and leased by a leasing company operating in the Dongjiang Bonded Industrial Zone in Tianjin.

Beijing, September 29 (Xinhua) — Nankai University in Tianjin, northern China, recently launched joint programs with the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ENU) in Kazakhstan.

The opening ceremony of the academic year for the joint master's degree programs in economics, international business, and strategic trade control took place last Friday at Nankai University, according to the university's official website.

The event was attended by Nankai University Vice-Rector Sheng Bin, ENU Dean of the Faculty of Economics Aida Zhagyparova, and other ENU representatives.

180 young Chinese students participated in the joint study programs. The two-year program for these master's students will be held at Nankai University with the participation of ENU faculty. NANJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) — Nanjing Massacre survivor Xiong Shulan, 94, died on Saturday, bringing the total number of registered survivors of the tragedy to 25, the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Museum in east China's Jiangsu Province said Monday.

The Nanjing Massacre occurred after the Japanese occupation forces captured Nanjing, then the capital of China, on December 13, 1937. Over the course of six weeks, the invaders killed approximately 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers. This tragedy is considered one of the most barbaric episodes of World War II.

In 1937, after Japanese troops entered Nanjing, Xiong Shulan survived by shaved her head and disguised herself as a boy.

The deceased was a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for 40 years and was passionate about performing kuaiban – folk poems recited to the sound of bamboo slats.

Since the beginning of this year, seven survivors of the Nanjing Massacre have already died, as a result of which the number of people directly involved in those events continues to decrease.

In 2014, the 7th Session of the Standing Committee of the 12th NPC declared December 13 as National Remembrance Day for the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre.
