Pyongyang, October 9 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Li Qiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, arrived in the DPRK on Thursday on an official goodwill visit. He will also attend celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK).

JERUSALEM, October 9 (Xinhua) — An international humanitarian flotilla heading to the Gaza Strip was intercepted by the Israeli Navy in the Mediterranean Sea on Wednesday, the Israeli Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday.

Civilian vessels attempted to break the naval blockade of Gaza for the second time after Israel intercepted the Sumud Global Flotilla last week. Over 470 volunteers from over 40 countries participated in that mission.

Israeli state television channel Kan TV News reported that the Navy took control of eight small yachts and a 68-meter cruise ship carrying about 100 Freedom Flotilla activists within 40 minutes on Wednesday morning.

According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry and TV reports, the ships and activists were taken to the port of Ashdod in southern Israel.

The ministry added that all passengers are safe and in good health and are expected to be deported immediately.

HAIKOU, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) — Duty-free sales in southern China's island province of Hainan were strong during the eight-day National Day holiday, also known as "golden week," according to Haikou Customs.

Haikou Customs oversaw duty-free sales totaling 944 million yuan (US$132.5 million) from about 122,900 shoppers during the holiday from October 1 to 8, with per capita spending averaging 7,685 yuan, up 13.6 percent, 3.2 percent and 10 percent year-on-year, respectively.

TIANJIN, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) — A train carrying transit goods from Japan, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and other countries departed from Tianjin, north China, and will leave China through Ereenhot Port in Inner Mongolia and finally arrive in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

According to statistics from Tianjin Customs, 500 China-Europe/China-Central Asia freight trains have departed from Tianjin Port since the beginning of this year as of the end of September.

ANKARA, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) — Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani on Wednesday called on the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to implement the March 10 agreement "without delay," a day after the SDF leader and Syrian authorities announced a ceasefire.

Jerusalem, October 9 (Xinhua) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday praised the new agreement with Hamas on the first phase of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages. The cabinet plans to meet today to approve the agreement.
