Accra, October 22 (Xinhua) — Ghana will introduce e-visas by 2026 to simplify the visa process and facilitate trade, diplomacy, and investment. Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the move Tuesday while speaking at the MOBEX Africa 2025 technology exhibition and innovation conference.

The e-visa system is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' efforts to modernize Ghana's diplomatic services for the digital age, the minister noted. He added that the introduction of e-visas will make it easier for investors, tech specialists, and entrepreneurs to enter and work in the country.

The theme of this year's conference is "Rebooting Africa's Digital Identity and Sovereignty." Commenting on the topic, S.O. Ablakwa noted that the continent needs to embrace technological opportunities and digitalization as a tool for transformation.

The success of initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area will depend on strong digital connectivity, he stressed.

KUNMING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) — Law enforcement agencies from China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand on Tuesday launched the 158th joint patrol of the Mekong River to combat cross-border crime.

The patrol officially began on Tuesday morning, when three Chinese and three Laotian vessels departed the port of Jingha in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province, southwest China. Two law enforcement vessels from Myanmar also joined the patrol.

The flotilla of eight law enforcement vessels from four countries is designed to combat various types of cross-border crime in the Mekong River basin and maintain security and stability in the region.

Prior to the launch of the joint patrol, law enforcement agencies from the four countries held a joint commanders' meeting and information-sharing session in Jinghong City to assess the security situation and cross-border crime trends in the Mekong River Basin and discuss coordinated measures to strengthen regional security.

Three Lao patrol vessels participating in the 158th Joint Patrol of the Mekong River arrived in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture on September 30 for a friendly visit to the local water patrol unit of the Yunnan Provincial Public Security Bureau. During the visit, the two sides exchanged views on professional training, law enforcement capacity building, and cultural exchanges.

The Mekong River, known in China as the Lancangjiang, is an important waterway for cross-border shipping between China and other countries. China, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand have been jointly patrolling the Mekong River since December 2011. -0-

The raspberry harvest season recently concluded at a raspberry plantation in Nanyang Township, Ganchang County, Longnan City, Gansu Province. Freshly picked raspberries, after sorting, washing, and other processing steps, are transformed into various products, such as fresh berries, preserves, and fruit wine, which are then sold to a wider market.

Since 2019, local authorities have reportedly been actively encouraging farmers to grow raspberries using the "Party Cell Cooperative Industry" development model, gradually establishing a production chain that integrates cultivation, processing, sales, agritourism, and harvesting. The small red raspberry is becoming a "golden berry," boosting village incomes and promoting rural revitalization.

Baghdad, October 21 (Xinhua) — Iraq and Turkmenistan signed an agreement to expand energy cooperation amid Baghdad's ongoing efforts to overcome a protracted energy crisis, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday.

The agreement, signed on October 20, includes a memorandum of understanding in the areas of energy and gas imports aimed at meeting the needs of both countries.

The agreement came after Iraq's plan to import Turkmen gas via neighboring Iran fell through in September under US pressure, forcing Baghdad to seek alternative sources of supply to keep its national energy grid running.
