Tashkent, October 24 (Xinhua) — The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has decided to maintain its key interest rate at 14 percent per annum. The bank's press service reported this on Friday.

The country reportedly saw steady economic growth in the third quarter of this year. The maintenance of relatively tight monetary conditions, the exhaustion of last year's inflationary impact, and the stabilizing effect of the strengthening exchange rate on commodity prices contributed to a slowdown in annual inflation in September.

"At the same time, despite strong aggregate demand, inflationary risks associated with external supply factors and high service inflation persist. Given these circumstances, the Central Bank's board has decided to keep the key rate unchanged at 14 percent per annum," the statement reads.

"The Central Bank will ensure sufficient monetary policy strictness to achieve the five percent target in the medium term," the regulator's press service said in a statement.

ANKARA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) — Turkey's central bank on Thursday slowed its monetary easing cycle, cutting its key interest rate by 100 basis points from 40.5 percent to 39.5 percent, in line with market expectations.

In a statement following the Monetary Policy Committee meeting, the Central Bank reported that inflation accelerated in September. Recent price changes, particularly for food products, have increased the risks to disinflation due to inflation expectations and price behavior.

Turkey's annual inflation rose to 33.29 percent in September from 32.95 percent in August, marking the first monthly increase since May 2024.

The Central Bank's latest rate cut follows sharper cuts in previous months: 250 basis points in September and 300 in July.

The Turkish government expects inflation to fall to 28.5 percent this year and to 16 percent in 2026, before falling to single digits in 2027. –0–

Addis Ababa, October 24 (Xinhua) — China has become the fourth-largest importer of Ethiopian coffee, up from seventh place two years ago, according to Shafi Umar, deputy director general of the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority.

In a recent interview with Xinhua, he said that Ethiopia exported about 9,470 tons of coffee to China in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, which began on July 8, earning US$65.49 million.

“The revenues received from coffee exports to China in the first three months of the current financial year increased almost sevenfold compared to the revenues in the same period last year,” noted Sh. Umar.

He attributed the increase in coffee exports to China to the supply of organic coffee and improved delivery services that meet the growing demand of Chinese consumers for high-quality coffee.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that all trade talks with Canada have been suspended due to a "fake" Canadian ad designed to influence a U.S. Supreme Court decision.

“Due to their malicious actions, all trade negotiations with Canada are now terminated,” Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social.

The Ronald Reagan Foundation, in a statement, condemned an advertising campaign by the Canadian province of Ontario for "using selected audio and video footage" from former US President Ronald Reagan's 1987 radio address on trade issues.

According to the statement, Ontario does not have permission to "use or edit the statements." The foundation warned that it is considering its legal options.

According to D. Trump, the goal of the advertising campaign is to “obstruct the decision of the US Supreme Court and other courts.”

Early next month, the Supreme Court will begin hearing arguments on the legality of Donald Trump's global tariffs and issue a ruling.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said earlier Thursday that his country would not allow the United States unfair access to Canadian markets if bilateral trade talks fail.

Ashgabat, October 24 (Xinhua) — Once all stages are fully developed, gross annual gas production from the Galkynysh field could reach nearly 200 billion cubic meters per year. This was reported on Friday by the International Information Center, citing Irina Luryeva, Doctor of Technical Sciences and an employee of the Natural Gas Research Institute at the Turkmengas state concern.

Speaking at the international conference "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2025" in Ashgabat, she reported that the development of the Galkynysh field is being carried out according to a phased development strategy, which includes seven stages of development.

Pilot production is currently underway as part of the first phase. The current production well stock comprises 52 wells. Seven more wells are being prepared for connection, and eight are actively drilling.

The second, third, and fourth stages of development are planned for the near future. Gas extraction rates will gradually increase.

Galkynysh is a large gas field located in southeastern Turkmenistan near the city of Yoloten. The field was discovered in 2006 and began commercial production in September 2013. Galkynysh is operated by Turkmenistan's national gas company, Turkmengaz.
