VILNIUS, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) — Traffic across the Lithuanian-Belarusian border resumed at midday on Saturday, more than 12 hours after it was temporarily suspended late Friday due to a hot air balloon incident on the Belarusian side.

According to the State Border Guard Service (VSAT), checks and passage of people and vehicles have resumed at the Medininkai and Šalčininkai checkpoints.

Traffic at both checkpoints was suspended at around 21:30 /18:30 GMT/ on October 24 following reports that several weather balloons had approached Lithuanian airspace.

VSAT noted that no serious incidents or conflicts between drivers waiting at the checkpoint were recorded during the closure.

Last night, the head of the National Crisis Management Centre, Vilmantas Vitkauskas, reported that radars had detected approximately 80-90 spherical objects, which is two to three times fewer than were observed during a similar incident earlier this week.

As VSAT head Rustamas Liubajevas noted, four balloons carrying contraband cigarettes have been intercepted so far. Following the first wave of balloon incursions earlier this week, the National Security Commission held a meeting to assess the situation.

Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė warned that if mass launches of contraband balloons from Belarus continue, Lithuania may consider completely closing the border with its eastern neighbor. The next meeting of the National Security Commission is scheduled for October 29.

BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) — A gathering was held in Beijing on Saturday as part of the first Taiwan Liberation Memorial Day to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's liberation from Japanese occupation and the island's return to China.

Addressing nearly 500 participants at the meeting, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Wang Huning called on compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to jointly advance the process of national reunification and leave no room for any form of separatist activity aimed at achieving "Taiwan independence."

The event was organized after the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) adopted a resolution on October 24 officially designating October 25 as Taiwan Liberation Memorial Day.

In 1894, Japan waged war against China and subsequently occupied Taiwan.

On October 25, 1945, a ceremony was held in Taipei to accept the surrender of Japanese forces in Taiwan Province, part of the Allied Powers' China theater of operations. From that moment on, Taiwan Island and the Penghu Islands returned to the sovereign jurisdiction of China.

Wang Huning, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, noted that the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the return of Taiwan to China were a great triumph and a source of shared pride for the Chinese people and the Chinese nation.

According to the Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, the establishment of the commemorative day demonstrates the unwavering determination of all people in the country to uphold the one-China principle and safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

This also reflects the CPC's firm determination to fulfill its historical mission and achieve the complete reunification of the motherland, he continued, adding that this has further strengthened the international consensus that there is only one China and Taiwan is an inalienable part of it.

Wang Huning stressed that at this important moment of remembering history and moving forward together, compatriots on both sides of the Strait must shoulder the historical responsibility of promoting the peaceful development of cross-strait relations and realizing national rejuvenation.

The CPPCC National Committee Chairman emphasized the importance of adhering to peaceful reunification, the "one country, two systems" policy, the one-China principle, and the 1992 consensus.

Wang Huning called for joint efforts to safeguard the great achievements of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, deepen cross-strait exchanges and integration, safeguard the common interests of the Chinese nation, and strive for national rejuvenation.

Moscow, October 25 (Xinhua) — China's strategic development priorities during the 15th Five-Year Plan period will be linked to innovative, high-quality development and openness, with the aim of securing competitive advantages and overcoming the lag in areas where Western countries still dominate, according to Oleg Timofeev, associate professor at Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University).

"I believe that China's primary development strategy during the 15th Five-Year Plan period will be to enhance its own competitive advantages and overcome the lag in areas where Western countries continue to dominate," O. Timofeev said in an interview with Xinhua ahead of the 4th Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee.

According to the Russian orientalist, the new development concept proposed by the Chinese leadership, based on innovation, coordination, environmentally friendly approaches, and openness, is currently becoming an extremely important and sought-after project. Many countries around the world are actively implementing the innovative and environmentally oriented development models successfully tested in China.

"For many countries, China is a benchmark because it offers a model of joint development that meets the interests of sustainable development for all countries in the current context of rising deglobalization and protectionism," noted O. Timofeev.

The expert continued, China traditionally acts as a strategic partner and responsible global player with countries in the Global South. He noted that multilateral frameworks such as the Belt and Road Initiative, BRICS, and the SCO, all of which China pioneered, enjoy enormous global influence. The China-ASEAN, China-Africa, and China-Latin America dialogue mechanisms, as well as the network of bilateral strategic partnerships with countries in the Global South, have proven highly effective.

"The Chinese leadership's special attention to developing South-South cooperation is confirmed by the fact that one of the main goals of the Global Governance Initiative, recently proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, is to enhance the international role of countries in the Global South," noted the RUDN University associate professor.

Institutional openness is the foundation of China's high-quality openness strategy, he believes. "The Chinese government is setting an example for the world on how to stimulate a massive influx of foreign investment, production and technological skills, and talented personnel. China is not afraid of global competition in any economic sector, including high-tech manufacturing," Timofeev emphasized.

UN, October 25 /Xinhua/ — The China Initiative on Global Governance provides important guidance for the future development of the UN. This was stated on Friday by China's Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, at the Security Council open debate on the future of the UN, marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the global organization.

The Global Governance Initiative is consistent with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, aims to strengthen solidarity and coordination within the international community, and enables a more effective response to the challenges of the time, he said.

The diplomat noted that over the past 80 years, the UN has become the most universal, representative, and authoritative intergovernmental organization, making an invaluable contribution to peace and development throughout the world.

However, the ideals enshrined in the UN Charter remain unfulfilled 80 years later, and the global governance system is in serious trouble, Fu Tsung said.

At this crucial moment, Chinese President Xi Jinping solemnly launched the Global Governance Initiative, presenting a Chinese solution to the growing global governance deficit and promoting the creation of a more equitable system, he said.

The UN is at a new historical starting point, the diplomat declared, adding that China is ready to cooperate with all countries to uphold the lofty ideals of the global organization. "Let us move forward to build a community with a shared future for humanity," Fu Cong urged. –0–

Budapest, October 25 (Xinhua) — The Chinese governance model offers valuable insights to countries seeking stability, sustainable growth, and social cohesion, Hungarian Workers' Party Chairman Gyula Thürmer said in an interview with Xinhua recently.

He said consistent leadership, long-term planning and close ties with the people have enabled China to cope with serious global challenges, including economic hardship and poverty.

The politician attributed the success of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to its adaptation of Marxism to national realities, with an emphasis on practical development and public welfare. "The Party can fulfill its role when it is close to the people, when it lives among the people," he said.

D. Thürmer noted that these achievements stand in stark contrast to the crises facing Western countries, where public discontent with traditional political systems is growing.

Our interviewee praised China's ability to maintain economic growth despite global uncertainty, Western protectionism, and trade restrictions. He noted that China's economy has demonstrated resilience in industry, agriculture, and services.

"China has created a new form of international cooperation," said D. Thürmer, praising Beijing's role in promoting multilateralism through the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as platforms such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

China is promoting a new type of globalization based on mutual respect and win-win partnerships and providing developing countries with fairer opportunities for growth, the Hungarian politician noted.

“We need new forms of cooperation between countries, based not on the will of one or two major powers, but on the principles of mutually beneficial cooperation,” he emphasized.

D. Thürmer stated that other countries could learn from China's experience, which emphasizes stability, strategic foresight, and engagement with the general public.

The agency's source noted that Hungary's cooperation with China continues to expand through industrial projects, technological partnerships, and cultural exchanges. He stated that such interaction could contribute to Hungary's economic development, particularly in the automotive industry.

D. Thürmer also emphasized the importance of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, noting that China's stability is crucial for world peace and economic cooperation.

China's people-centered, long-term approach to governance is attractive to countries facing complex global challenges, said D. Thürmer. "We look to China for new ideas on how to develop our countries," he added.
