Beijing, November 21 (Xinhua) — November 20 marks World Children's Day across the globe. As a signatory to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, China has long been committed to protecting the rights and interests of children.

Today, urban planners in China are voluntarily listening to children's voices to make cities more child-friendly. According to the guidelines for the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) issued by the National Development and Reform Commission of China and 22 other departments, Chinese authorities aim to pilot the construction of 100 child-friendly cities by the end of 2025.

Specifically, creating child-friendly cities involves five aspects: social policy, public services, protection of rights, space for growth, and conditions for development.

Tbilisi, November 21 (Xinhua) — "The Black Sea submarine cable project is already in the process of obtaining special status in the European Union. St. Petersburg, November 20 (Xinhua) — The number of polluted water points on the Volga River has significantly decreased over the past five years, TASS reported, citing Vera Demidova, a specialist with Russia's Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (Roshydromet).

A specialist stated in the Russian State Duma on Thursday that the improvement in the situation is particularly noticeable in the Volga River estuary, located in the Astrakhan Region. Roshydromet is monitoring the river's water quality at 108 stations.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev announced that 131 wastewater treatment facilities have been commissioned as part of Russian federal projects to improve the Volga and Lake Baikal. Nine facilities were commissioned in the first three quarters of 2025, and work on six more is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The Volga is the largest river in Europe by basin size and length. It stretches 3,530 km and flows through 15 regions of Russia.
