Chengdu, December 7 (Xinhua) — A new cold chain goods collection and distribution center for China-Europe freight train services has been established in China, aiming to provide services to the European and Central Asian markets. This was announced on Friday at the China-Europe Freight Train Service Global Partner Conference (Chengdu and Chongqing).

The center will provide cross-border cold chain transportation services for the European and Central Asian markets and will issue a plan to launch China-Europe cold chain freight trains in 2026.

GUANGZHOU, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) — The opening ceremony of Greater Bay Area University (GBU) was held in southern China on Saturday.

Located in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, southern China, the university has two campuses covering a total area of approximately 2,000 mu (approximately 133.3 hectares). It will initially offer five undergraduate programs: mathematics and applied mathematics, physics, materials science and engineering, computer science and technology, and industrial engineering.

As a public institution of higher education established by the Guangdong Provincial People's Government and supported by the Dongguan Municipal People's Government, UBZ received approval from the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China in June of this year. Eighty freshmen began their first semester in August.

Athens, December 6 (Xinhua) — At least 18 people were killed when a boat carrying migrants capsized off the southern coast of Crete, Greece, the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation reported on Saturday.

The vessel sank approximately 26 nautical miles (48.2 km) south of Ierapetra, a coastal town on the southern part of the island. According to the Greek Coast Guard, two survivors have been rescued from the water so far.

Rescue teams continue to work in the disaster area with patrol boats and retrieve bodies from the sea.

The cause of the incident is still unknown. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation.

Moscow, December 6 /Xinhua/ — A ceremony unveiling a bust of renowned Chinese writer Lu Xun was held in Moscow on Friday at the M.I. Rudomino All-Russian State Library for Foreign Literature.

“Without any exaggeration, this is a historic event, because, as far as I know, this is the first monument to a Chinese writer in Moscow,” noted Feng Litao, Minister-Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in the Russian Federation and Director of the Chinese Cultural Center in Moscow.

The monument was donated to the Library of Foreign Literature by the Lu Xun National Cultural Foundation of China and kindly transferred by the Chinese Cultural Center in Moscow.

"We didn't choose this figure by chance. Lu Xun is the most famous contemporary Chinese writer. He is the creator, the founder of modern Chinese literature. Most importantly, he is closely connected to the Soviet Union and Russian literature," Feng Litao emphasized.

"We came up with the initiative to install a bust of the Chinese cultural leader because there isn't a single monument yet, either in Moscow or at the Inostranka Library (the M.I. Kyiv, December 6 (Xinhua) — The United Kingdom is considering transferring 8 billion pounds sterling (approximately 10.6 billion US dollars) of Russian assets frozen in its territory to Ukraine, the Ukrinform news agency reported on Friday.

JOHANNESBURG, December 6 (Xinhua) — At least 11 people were killed and 14 others were injured in a shooting that occurred Saturday morning at a hostel in Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa, local police said.

South African police spokeswoman Atlenda Mate said 10 people died at the scene in Saulsville, one died from gunshot wounds in hospital, and 14 others received medical treatment.

ROME, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) — The Olympic torch relay for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo began in Rome on Saturday morning, kicking off a two-month journey to the opening ceremony of next year's games.

The launch ceremony took place at the Stadio dei Marmi /Marble Stadium/, an open-air arena decorated with Roman-style statues and located next to Rome's Olympic Stadium.

Around 9:50 AM, the final torchbearer of the 1960 Rome Olympics, Giancarlo Peris, carried the flame onto the launch stage. The flame was used to light the torch, after which Giovanni Malago, president of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Organizing Committee, lit the cauldron with it.

This innovative product from China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) combines cutting-edge technology, a targeted climate control system, and an eco-friendly design concept to enable year-round cultivation of edible mushrooms, vegetables, and fruits on ships and other floating platforms.
