Munich, Germany, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday called on Germany to become a driving force for pragmatic cooperation between China and Europe and a pillar of stability in the strategic relationship between the two sides.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the call during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

The Chinese Foreign Minister noted that the Chancellor's speech on Friday at the opening ceremony of the Munich Security Conference reflects Germany and Europe's aspirations for strategic autonomy, as well as independence and strength. He added that China supports Germany in playing a more active role in this regard.

China and Germany should demonstrate the responsibility of major countries and make new contributions to world peace and development, Wang Yi said.

Noting that China and Germany share extensive common interests and have strong complementary advantages, and that strengthening their cooperation is a strategic choice based on the practical needs of both countries, Wang Yi said that China's high-level commitment to opening up will provide tremendous opportunities for German companies to invest and do business, expressing the hope that Germany will also provide a more fair and equitable business environment for Chinese companies.

F. Merz, in turn, noted China's outstanding achievements in development, recognized throughout the world, and stated that China plays a key role in the international arena.

Germany and China maintain close economic and trade relations, and both countries are beneficiaries and supporters of economic globalization, he said, calling on both sides to seize opportunities, unlock potential, and deepen cooperation. Germany consistently opposes protectionism, advocates for free trade, and encourages German companies to increase investment and cooperation in China, Merz noted.

Germany adheres to the one-China policy and looks forward to close high-level contacts with China, strengthening cooperation in various fields and promoting the further development of German-Chinese relations, he added. –0–

Beijing, February 15 (Xinhua) — A launch ceremony for the China-Eurasia Investment and Trade Promotion Center (CETPC) online platform was held recently in Urumqi, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The platform aims to create a comprehensive digital hub to facilitate trade cooperation between China and Central Asian and European countries, according to the Zhongguo Xinwenshe news agency.

The platform, which is geared toward the needs of businesses conducting cross-border transactions, provides services for obtaining permits, finding business partners, customs clearance and logistics, and risk prevention.

This platform's consular services extend to Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Furthermore, the platform now offers visual resources of industrial parks in Central Asian countries, allowing companies to familiarize themselves with the conditions for operating abroad, reducing the costs of investment decisions.

As a reminder, the China-Eurasia Investment and Trade Promotion Center began operating in Urumqi in April 2025, and its comprehensive service center opened in August of the same year.

Munich, Germany, February 15, Xinhua — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Saturday that China is willing to work with the Czech Republic to return bilateral relations to a healthy track of development and make up for lost time.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement during a meeting with Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Petr Macinka at the latter's request on the sidelines of the ongoing Munich Security Conference.

Noting that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Sino-Czech strategic partnership, Wang Yi said that although the two countries have a long tradition of friendship, bilateral ties have undergone major changes in recent years that do not serve the interests of either side.

China appreciates the new Czech government's active commitment to improving relations with China, Wang Yi said, adding that Beijing is willing to jointly strive for an early return to the healthy and stable development of bilateral ties.

Wang Yi expressed hope that the Czech side will form a correct understanding of China, sincerely adhere to the one-China principle and respect the fundamental interests of the PRC.

He called on both sides to promote exchanges at all levels and in various fields, strengthen mutual understanding and trust, and lay a solid foundation for pragmatic cooperation.

P. Macinka called China a world power and said that the Czech Republic values the traditional friendship between the two nations.

Using the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership as an opportunity, the Czech Republic hopes to open a new chapter in bilateral relations, said P. Macinka.

He stressed that the Czech Republic is firmly committed to the one-China policy.

According to him, the Czech Republic recognizes the People's Republic of China as the sole legitimate government representing all of China and respects and supports China in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Czech side hopes to improve relations with China, resume high-level exchanges, and develop cooperation in areas such as economics and trade, tourism, and humanitarian exchanges, he added. –0–

Kyiv, February 15 (Xinhua) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speaking Saturday at the Munich Security Conference in Germany, stated that the United States, in trilateral negotiations, has too often allowed the topic of concessions to be discussed only in the context of Ukraine, not Russia. This was reported on the Ukrainian president's website.

"But frankly, sometimes it seems like the two sides are talking about completely different things. The Russians often talk about some kind of 'spirit of Anchorage,' and we can only guess what they really mean. The Americans often return to the topic of concessions, and too often these concessions are discussed only in the context of Ukraine, not Russia," Zelenskyy noted.

“We sincerely hope that the trilateral meetings next week will be serious, meaningful and useful for all of us,” he stressed.

In late January and early February of this year, two rounds of security working group talks were held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, with representatives from Russia, the United States, and Ukraine. As Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov announced on February 13, a new meeting of representatives from the three countries will take place on February 17-18 in Geneva, Switzerland.

Minsk, February 15 (Xinhua) — A large-scale celebratory event, "The Blessed Horse Brings Happiness. The Concert 'Merry Spring Festival,'" took place in Minsk. The festive event spanned two days. On Friday, the concert took place at the Republican Palace of Culture of Trade Unions, and on Saturday, at the First National Trading House.

The event became a joint cultural celebration, uniting Chinese and Belarusian traditions. The program included dance, instrumental music, acrobatics, and martial arts, fully showcasing Chinese traditions and culture in their modern dynamics.

This year, numerous artistic groups from China came to Belarus to showcase their outstanding talents on the same stage as the renowned Belarusian State Academic Honored Choreographic Ensemble "Khoroshki."

As Chinese Ambassador to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan noted during the festive event on Friday, the Spring Festival is the most important and revered traditional holiday of the Chinese people.

"Belarus is our dear friend, with whom we share this joy. More than ten years have passed since our first joint celebration of the 'Merry Spring Festival' in Minsk in 2014. What began as a cultural exhibition has grown into a major cultural event," he emphasized.

Belarusian Minister of Culture Ruslan Chernetsky said the celebratory event is a clear demonstration of the strength of the cultural bridges linking Belarus and China. Belarus highly values its long-standing strategic partnership with China, based on the principles of mutual respect, equality, and consideration of mutual interests.

"Our mutually beneficial cooperation is built primarily on trust and friendship between the leaders of our countries. The two countries have built a strong architecture of cooperation, encompassing fruitful collaboration in all key areas," stated R. Chernetsky.

During the two-day festive event, the Beijing delegation organized interactive zones featuring intangible cultural heritage items for guests. Representatives of the Confucius Institute of the Belarusian National Technical University and the Confucius Institute of the Belarusian State University of Physical Education also organized their own workshops dedicated to the Spring Festival.

The Chinese Foreign Minister warned of the danger of Japan challenging the post-war world order.

Munich, Germany, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday called for continued vigilance over the latest dangerous developments in Japan, saying the Japanese leadership's erroneous statements on the Taiwan issue directly challenge China's sovereignty and the post-World War II world order.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the call at the "China in the World" session of the 62nd Munich Security Conference, where he delivered a speech and answered questions.

When asked about China's responsibility for the renewed escalation of tensions in the Asia-Pacific region, Wang Yi rejected the notion that the situation in the region was becoming increasingly tense. He noted that globally, peace has generally been maintained only in Asia, and even recent local conflicts, such as those on the Cambodia-Thailand border, were quickly resolved thanks to the efforts of all parties, in which China played a significant role. The diplomat stated that China has become a pillar of peace in Asia and will continue to play a constructive role in ensuring regional stability, serving as an important global force for peace.

However, Wang Yi acknowledged that the Asia-Pacific region is not without its challenges and called for vigilance against the latest dangerous trends in Japan.

He noted that the current Japanese prime minister publicly stated that any unforeseen situation in the Taiwan Strait would constitute a so-called "existential threat," which would allow Japan to exercise its right to collective self-defense. Wang Yi called this the first time in 80 years since World War II that a Japanese prime minister has publicly made such an outrageous statement. The Chinese foreign minister noted that such statements directly challenge China's national sovereignty, the post-war international order under which Taiwan was returned to China, and the political commitments Japan has made to China. He emphasized that China will never tolerate such a situation, nor will the 1.4 billion Chinese people.

Wang Yi noted that today, while in Germany, one can compare the post-war attitudes toward history in Japan and Europe. He noted that Germany had comprehensively eliminated fascism and passed laws banning Nazi propaganda. In contrast, in Japan, Class A war criminals are still memorialized in a shrine, which is visited by a steady stream of Japanese politicians, who venerate them as "heroic souls." Such a phenomenon is unthinkable in Europe, Wang Yi stated, calling it the root cause of all the problems.

The Japanese leadership's erroneous statements regarding the Taiwan issue clearly demonstrate that Japan's ambitions to seize and colonize Taiwan have not faded, and the specter of militarism still lingers in the country, Wang Yi emphasized. The diplomat also recalled that it was under the pretext of a so-called "existential threat" that Japan launched its aggression against China and attacked the Pearl Harbor military base in the United States.

The lessons of the past are right before us and must be carefully studied, said Wang Yi. If Japan refuses to correct itself, it will inevitably repeat the same mistakes, and therefore people of good will must be vigilant. He reminded that, above all, the Japanese people themselves must not be blinded and coerced again by far-right forces and extreme ideologies. Wang Yi called on all peace-loving countries to send a warning to Japan that if it again attempts to return to its old path, it will bring about its own destruction, and if it again resorts to reckless behavior, it will only suffer accelerated defeat and even greater losses.

Global governance must be improved through reforms, says Chinese Foreign Minister

Munich, Germany, February 14, Xinhua — Global governance must be improved through reforms to correct the course of history, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in Munich on Friday.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the corresponding statement at the “China in the World” session at the ongoing Munich Security Conference.

According to him, over the past year, the international situation has become more unstable and interconnected. The "law of the jungle" and unilateralism have gained widespread momentum, and the cause of peace and human development has reached a new crossroads.

As the Chinese diplomat noted, Chinese President Xi Jinping put forward the Global Governance Initiative, calling for the observance of sovereign equality, international rule of law, multilateralism, a people-centered approach, and practical actions to create a more just and reasonable global governance system.

This initiative is in line with the progressive trend of the era, reflects the broadest consensus of the international community, and quickly received widespread support and approval, he emphasized. It has given new impetus to building a community with a shared future for humanity and has become a "Chinese compass" for the ship of history, enabling it to navigate through storms and reach the bright shore.

Humanity has endured many hardships to this day, and uniting in sorrow and in joy is the right choice, Wang Yi pointed out, calling on the international community to improve the global governance system through reforms and correct the course of the historical ship.

In his speech, the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry put forward four proposals on this matter.

First, it is necessary to revitalize the United Nations system. The UN is a significant achievement of the Victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, a historic choice of our ancestors, and a peace project in which states have invested the greatest effort to date. The world has only the duty to strengthen and repair this "edifice" jointly erected by the peoples of the world, but has no right to destroy it, Wang Yi emphasized.

Without the UN, the world will return to the era of the "law of the jungle," and the vast majority of small and medium-sized countries will lose the multilateral support they rely on, Wang Yi stated. Today, the most important task is to return to the UN's original aspirations, restore its leading role, uphold the goals of the UN Charter, and improve the effectiveness of the UN system to help it better adapt to the needs of the 21st century, the diplomat added.

Second, countries must coordinate and cooperate. According to Wang Yi, the current international system is not functioning properly because some countries exaggerate differences, prioritize their own priorities, and lean toward bloc confrontation. The Chinese Foreign Minister stated that to maintain international coordination and cooperation, it is necessary to seek common ground while maintaining differences and achieve mutually beneficial cooperation. Where differences exist, dialogue and cooperation are essential. He expressed hope that countries will respect and support each other, achieving harmony without uniformity.

Looking back at history, Wang Yi noted that every advance made by humanity is the result of sincere cooperation between countries, despite their differences. He emphasized that unity is strength, and unity brings hope.

Third, always adhere to multilateralism. In the coming multipolar world, it is necessary to practice genuine multilateralism and promote the democratization of international relations, Wang Yi stated, calling on countries to adhere to a single set of rules—namely, the basic norms of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter—so that all states, especially the many small and medium-sized countries, can find their place and play their due role in the international system.

In particular, large countries should set an example in various areas, including taking a leading role in promoting cooperation, avoiding conflicts and confrontations, abiding by rules rather than applying double standards, practicing equality instead of coercion, and promoting openness instead of self-interest, the diplomat noted.

Noting the collective rise of countries in the Global South, the Chinese Foreign Minister said the global governance system must keep pace with the times and more fully reflect their voice and representativeness.

Fourth, Wang Yi emphasized that the top priority today is ending wars and promoting peace. More than 60 conflicts remain active worldwide. The concept of common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping points the way to their resolution. All parties should promote peace negotiations, oppose fueling the fire, and resolve conflicts through mediation and dialogue.

The Chinese diplomat called for tireless efforts to achieve a ceasefire and reconstruction in the Gaza Strip, stating that realizing the "two states for two peoples" principle and achieving justice for the Palestinian people are the inalienable responsibilities of the international community. The situation in Iran affects overall peace in the Middle East, and all parties must tread carefully to avoid new conflicts. The Ukrainian crisis has finally opened the door to dialogue. Wang Yi stated that all parties involved should seize this opportunity to strive for a fair, lasting, and binding peace agreement, address the root causes of the conflict, and achieve long-term stability in Europe. Regarding Venezuela, he added that the international legal order must not be overstepped and the principle of state sovereignty must be upheld.

As Wang Yi noted, China will resolutely contribute to peace, stability and historical progress, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

The Chinese Foreign Minister also answered questions about the crisis in Ukraine, relations between China and the EU, relations between China and the US, and the situation in the Asia-Pacific region.

During the Munich Security Conference, Wang Yi held meetings with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Chirno, Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger, British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, and Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Petr Macinka. –0–

St. Petersburg, February 14 /Xinhua/ — The exhibition "Isin Ceramics in the Collections of St. Petersburg and Moscow. 17th – Second Half of the 20th Century" opened on Saturday at the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.

The exhibition is dedicated to the renowned Chinese ceramics made from a special clay found in deposits in eastern China, near the city of Yixing (Jiangsu Province, eastern China). The properties of Yixing's unique clays made it possible to create objects associated with the Chinese practice of tea drinking—teapots and cups with lids that retained the warmth and aroma of tea for a long time. "These objects tell the story of the Chinese tea ceremony," said museum director Mikhail Piotrovsky at the opening ceremony.

According to exhibition curator Tatyana Arapova, preparations for the opening took approximately three years. St. Petersburg residents and visitors were presented with over 90 exhibits from the collections of six Russian museums, as well as from the collection of Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.

According to M. Zakharova, Yixing ceramics are popular not only in China, and teapots made from this unique clay are displayed in museums worldwide. "The interest in Yixing ceramics in various countries demonstrates the common ground between Chinese and European cultures. International relations can be harmonious through cultural exchange, understanding, and respect for the cultures of different countries," she said.

The exhibition features over 90 objects—teapots, miniature cups, tea caddies, vessels, flasks, and vases. They showcase the diversity of forms and decorative techniques used over several centuries. Many of the exhibits are being displayed to the public for the first time.

The exhibition will run until the end of May this year. –0–
