HAIKOU, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) — Duty-free sales in southern China's resort island province of Hainan soared during the three-day Lunar New Year holiday, with offshore duty-free sales reaching 712 million yuan (about 101.3 million U.S. dollars) from Jan. 1 to 3, 2026, up 128.9 percent from the same period in 2025, Haikou Customs said Sunday.

Customs recorded the sale of 442,000 duty-free goods during the three-day holiday, up 52.4 percent year-on-year, while the number of buyers rose 60.6 percent year-on-year to 83,500, the customs statement said.

Major duty-free shops ran various promotions, including discounts and vouchers. Many offered entertainment events and free shuttle buses to attract shoppers.

BEIJING, January 4 (Xinhua) — On Sunday, an international special train carrying 47 cars loaded with 1,300 tons of high-quality coal coke departed from Wuwei City in Northwest China's Gansu Province for Ablyk Railway Station in Uzbekistan. This is the first international special freight train to depart from Gansu Province in 2026.
