Beijing, November 3 (Xinhua) — China's 240-hour visa-free transit regime will be expanded to five more checkpoints in Guangdong Province as part of the country's latest efforts to further deepen its opening-up policy, the National Administration of Immigration (NAI) announced on Monday.

Three of the new checkpoints are located in Guangzhou, Hengqin District of Zhuhai and Zhongshan, while the other two are at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and at West Kowloon Station of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway line.

The new policy, which comes into effect on November 5, will increase the total number of checkpoints authorized to implement 240-hour visa-free transit from 60 to 65.

Travelers from 55 countries who meet certain criteria can enter China through any of 65 checkpoints in 24 provincial-level regions of China and stay in the country for up to 240 hours or 10 days without a visa before traveling to a third destination, GUM said. -0-

SHANGHAI, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) — Shanghai Disney Resort on Monday unveiled plans to build a fourth themed hotel and expand its shopping and dining area.

Amid the ongoing expansion of Shanghai Disneyland and the construction of a third themed hotel on its premises, the announcement comes shortly after the resort welcomed its 100 millionth visitor last week.

“We continue to design and deliver new and unique experiences in true Disneyland style,” said Andrew Bolstein, president and CEO of Shanghai Disneyland. “Our latest expansion plans are a compelling testament to this commitment.”

Under new development plans, the area near Shanghai Disneyland's main entrance will be transformed into a fourth themed hotel. A new Disneyland shopping mall will be built adjacent to the hotel, allowing guests to access exclusive merchandise from the resort without entering the grounds.

Shanghai Disneyland opened on June 16, 2016. According to the 2024 Global Experience Index released by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) on October 23, 2025, Shanghai Disneyland ranked fifth in terms of attendance among the “World's Top 25 Theme Parks” and topped the ranking of similar facilities in China in 2024, welcoming a record number of 14.7 million visitors.

The Irkeshtam checkpoint in western China is undergoing new development in the context of intensified cross-border interactions

Ürümqi, November 3 (Xinhua) — Since the visa-free travel agreement between China and Uzbekistan officially came into effect on June 1, the Irkeshtam border crossing point in northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) has continued to operate at full capacity. Five months after the agreement was implemented, the crossing point has seen a significant increase in the flow of people and increased trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Recently, at the security checkpoint, Uzbek travelers, passports in hand, were orderly processed through border control under the supervision of border guards. Meanwhile, more than ten trucks loaded with consumer goods and mechanical equipment awaited inspection before heading to Andijan, Uzbekistan.

As a key hub of the international transport corridor from China to Kyrgyzstan, extending to Uzbekistan, the Irkeshtam checkpoint, with its geographical advantages, has seen renewed development following the implementation of the visa-free regime. According to official data, since the beginning of this year, approximately 14,000 Uzbek citizens have passed through this checkpoint in both directions, almost three times more than the same period last year.

"Transportation time has been significantly reduced now! The 24-hour service has simplified the customs process, ensuring our smooth passage," said Uzbek truck driver Bobir Kenjaev, who regularly travels between China and Uzbekistan.

According to data, since the introduction of the visa-free regime between China and Uzbekistan this year, more than 8,000 Uzbek citizens have crossed the border in both directions through the Irkeshtam checkpoint. Faced with a rapid increase in passenger traffic following the introduction of the visa-free regime, the Irkeshtam checkpoint has proactively implemented appropriate measures, including a smart allocation of checkpoint resources, an increase in the number of inspection channels during peak hours, and an optimized traffic regime with the separation of people and vehicles. This has effectively increased the checkpoint's capacity and ensured a smooth and stable entry and exit process.

"We are closely monitoring the dynamics of border crossings by Uzbek travelers since the introduction of the visa-free regime, and are constantly optimizing the organization of the service and customs control procedures, making every effort to ensure safe, efficient, and unhindered passage for travelers between the two countries in accordance with the mutual visa-free regime agreement," said Irkeshtam border crossing officer Wang Yongyan.

Thanks to 24/7 customs clearance and an intelligent inspection system, the range of goods transported through the Irkeshtam checkpoint has expanded from traditional consumer goods to high-value-added products such as new energy vehicles and mechanical equipment. This corridor, running through China's western outskirts, is becoming an important logistics artery connecting Asian and European markets.

Kuwait, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) — China attaches great importance to its relations with Kuwait and is willing to promote bilateral practical cooperation in various fields, said Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, who is visiting the country from Saturday to Sunday.

During his visit, Han Zheng held separate meetings with the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, and Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

During a meeting with the Emir of Kuwait, the Vice President of China said that China has always valued its friendship with Kuwait and attaches great importance to the development of relations between the two countries.

Since 2022, Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Emir of Kuwait have met twice and reached a number of important agreements, which have provided strategic guidance for developing relations between the two countries to a higher level, Han Zheng added.

According to him, the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC Central Committee) sent a clear signal that China continues to advance comprehensive reform and expand high-level opening-up, which will create opportunities for the development of China-Kuwait relations.

China is willing to work with Kuwait to deepen political mutual trust, implement the bilateral cooperation documents signed in the presence of the two heads of state, and strive to achieve substantive progress as soon as possible, so as to ensure the deep and lasting development of the strategic partnership, Han Zheng said.

He noted that the Global Governance Initiative, proposed by Xi Jinping, has set a course for reforming and improving the global governance system. China hopes that Kuwait will actively support this initiative and welcomes Kuwait's participation in the Group of Friends of the Global Governance Initiative.

China highly appreciates Kuwait's long-term support and assistance in developing cooperation between China and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Han Zheng said, expressing hope that Kuwait, as the current chair of the GCC, will continue to exert a positive influence in this direction.

The Kuwaiti Emir, in turn, noted that Kuwait was the first Arab state in the Persian Gulf to establish diplomatic relations with China, which reflects the strategic and promising nature of bilateral relations.

According to him, Kuwait highly appreciates and supports the Global Governance Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Development Initiative proposed by the Chinese President.

Reaffirming his country's firm commitment to the one-China policy, the Emir expressed Kuwait's readiness to cooperate with China in jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative, effectively implementing relevant bilateral cooperation documents, and advancing Kuwaiti-Chinese relations to a higher level.

The Emir added that Kuwait is also ready to actively promote cooperation between the GCC and China, as well as between Arab countries and China, to a new level.

During talks with Kuwaiti Crown Prince Han Zheng said that Kuwait is a country with unique and significant influence in the Middle East, and China has always paid important attention to Kuwait in its foreign policy in the region.

According to him, under the strategic leadership of the President of the People's Republic of China and the Emir of Kuwait, the strategic partnership between the two countries has continued to develop in recent years.

Noting that next year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Kuwait, Han Zheng said China is willing to seize this opportunity to work with the Kuwaiti side to implement the important agreements reached by the two heads of state, deepen political mutual trust, strengthen practical cooperation in various fields, and elevate bilateral relations to a new level.

China is also willing to strengthen coordination with Kuwait to promote greater progress in China's cooperation with Arab and Gulf countries, and jointly promote multilateralism and develop global governance in a more fair and equitable direction.

The Kuwaiti Crown Prince stated that the friendship between Kuwait and China is deep and lasting, and that Kuwait supports China in safeguarding its core interests and is willing to expand cooperation with China, implement bilateral cooperation projects, and promote the further development of Kuwait-China relations.

Noting that the world order is undergoing profound changes, the Crown Prince said Kuwait firmly supports multilateralism and highly appreciates China's adherence to justice in international affairs and its fair position on the Palestinian issue, adding that Kuwait is willing to strengthen multilateral coordination with China and make joint efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Middle East.

During a meeting with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Han Zheng said that China and Kuwait are good friends and partners, and bilateral relations have made positive progress in recent years.

He also noted that cooperation between China and Kuwait is complementary and has great potential, adding that China is willing to work with Kuwait to strengthen practical cooperation based on mutual benefit and win-win results, effectively promote key projects, and take the strategic partnership between China and Kuwait to a new level.

The Prime Minister, in turn, stated that Kuwait values friendship and mutual trust with China, adding that his country is ready to work with China to implement the important agreements reached by the heads of state and accelerate the implementation of bilateral cooperation projects so that the high level of bilateral relations leads to more tangible results of cooperation and opens a new chapter in bilateral ties. –0–
