The 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) is taking place in Shanghai from November 5 to 10. During the event, a journalist from russian.china.org.cn spoke with Azamat Rakhmonov, Head of the Department for Cooperation with China at the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Azamat Rakhmonov noted that Uzbekistan has been participating in the exhibition since 2018 and has done so regularly since then. "We are already seeing the effectiveness of this platform in attracting partners from China," he emphasized. He added that both the number of participants and visitors is growing every year. International companies actively use the EXPO to expand partnerships and enter new markets.

The representative reported that more than 50 Uzbek companies are participating in the exhibition this year, representing over 150 types of products—from agricultural goods and light and food industry products to chemical and geological products.

"Thanks to our participation in the EXPO, Uzbek companies are finding more and more partners interested in our products. We see that Uzbek goods are becoming recognizable in the Chinese market," Rakhmonov noted. He added that interest from Uzbek companies in participating in the exhibition is extremely high: "If capacity were available, over a thousand companies would express a desire to join the event."

He emphasized that, given China's growing openness, the country is Uzbekistan's largest trading partner. "We are opening trading houses in various Chinese provinces to promote Uzbek products. We also plan to create several permanent exhibition spaces where Chinese companies can see our goods," Rakhmonov said.

The representative also expressed confidence that the opening of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway under construction will provide new opportunities for the supply of Uzbek products to the Chinese market.

On November 8, 2025, the "Cultural Exchange and Development in Cyberspace" forum was held at the Wuzhen International Internet Expo Center in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, as part of the Wuzhen Summit of the World Internet Conference 2025. Participants discussed how, guided by the Global Civilization Initiative, dialogue among civilizations can be fostered through cyberspace to invigorate the building of a more open and inclusive community of shared destiny in cyberspace in the digital age.

Pictured: Ekaterina Kaligaeva, winner of the "Chinese Language Bridge" competition in Belarus, blogger, and presenter, speaks at a roundtable discussion. Photographer: Zheng Wei, a journalist with the website "Zhongwang."

During the roundtable discussion, Ekaterina Kaligaeva (Chinese name Su Xiaoxiao), winner of the "Chinese Language Bridge" competition in Belarus, content creator, and presenter, shared her five years of experience in intercultural communications. She noted that an effective way to promote international communication is by telling Chinese stories in a format accessible to foreign audiences, through genuine interactions and from a first-person perspective. She believes that authenticity resonates more deeply with foreign audiences than flawless production, allowing the world to see a China distinct from the image portrayed in Western media.

Ekaterina Kaligaeva explained that over the course of five years, she has visited every province in China. Through her media channel and in collaboration with local and international media, she introduces foreign audiences to Chinese cuisine, landmarks, and culture under the theme "Traveling in China." She has noticed that foreign viewers prefer an authentic and natural delivery. Even when her Chinese isn't perfect, or there are slight hiccups during interviews, this only enhances the content's appeal. For example, while filming a documentary about poverty alleviation, real-life scenes such as cooking and interacting with villagers in their homes, or dancing with old ladies in public squares, allowed foreign audiences to see the authentic lives of ordinary Chinese.

She particularly highlighted Chongqing's successful international communications, calling it one of the most effective this year. Short 15-second videos featuring night views of Hongyadong, river cruises, and other scenes, despite their simplicity and even some shaky footage, struck a chord with foreign viewers: "China is so cool!" These videos have garnered hundreds of millions and even billions of views, attracting numerous foreign tourists to Chongqing. This approach, which avoids glamorous special effects and instead showcases real scenes, has yielded unexpectedly positive results.

During events celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Belarus, Ekaterina Kaligaeva showed scenes of young people from both countries baking cakes, discussing music, and learning each other's languages, allowing viewers to experience the cultural commonalities between the two countries. In a video about China's intangible cultural heritage, footage of her wrapping zongzi and letting rice spill out sparked interest among international viewers. This not only helped spread awareness of the Dragon Boat Festival but also sparked curiosity about Chinese cuisine.

Ekaterina Kaligaeva concluded that authenticity and interactivity are key to telling a truthful and engaging story about China online. Real-life situations and live interactions help overcome cultural barriers, allowing the world to see a more complete and multifaceted China.

SHANGHAI, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) — For U.S. medical technology giant Medtronic, the China International Import Expo (CIIE) is opening the door to the Chinese market, highlighting the country's commitment to openness and international cooperation.

Thanks to the CIIE platform, “we can accelerate the adoption of our most advanced and innovative products in China,” said Cao Shan, vice president of corporate affairs and communications for Medtronic Greater China, during the latest edition of the China Economic Roundtable, a media discussion program hosted by Xinhua News Agency.

Cao Shan also noted the company's record-breaking participation in the 8th CIIE, which runs from November 5th to 10th and set new records for both exhibition space and the number of exhibitors. "This year, we have the largest exhibition space in our history, and we are showcasing over 100 innovative exhibits," she said.

As a reminder, in October, the company opened its first digital health innovation base in China in Beijing.

According to Cao Shan, over the past eight years, Medtronic has showcased more than 500 innovative products and treatments at CIIE, more than 70 of which were debuting for the first time.

Regarding the company's 36-year history of presence in China, Cao Shan said that Medtronic's continued participation in the CIIE has allowed it to witness "the Chinese government's confidence and determination in pursuing openness and inclusiveness, as well as tangible improvements in the country's business environment."

During the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) held in Shanghai, a china.org.cn journalist interviewed Ainur Sultanalievna Amirbekova, PhD, Deputy General Director of QazTrade, a single operator for export development under the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan.

Ainur Sultanalieva noted that Kazakhstan has been participating in CIIE since 2018 and has been showcasing its products for eight years in a row. This year, Kazakhstani products are showcased across four exhibition venues, and the number of participating companies exceeded 100—a record for the country's participation in the exhibition.

"Together with the National Association of Cooperatives of Kazakhstan (NACOFEC), QazTrade has reached an agreement with China Coop, China's largest cooperative chain, which comprises over 340,000 stores across the country. Kazakhstani honey, kumys, shubat, and confectionery will soon appear on Chinese store shelves. The chain's annual turnover exceeds 7 trillion yuan, opening up significant opportunities for our suppliers," she said.

According to Ainur Sultanalieva, the exhibition presents "Kazakhstan's agro-industrial showcase"—products that reflect the purity of nature, a commitment to health, and a commitment to innovation. Among the key categories, she highlighted dairy products, including natural ice cream and dried camel milk, flour and pasta, healthy nutrition products made from chickpeas, flax, and other grains, as well as confectionery—candies, marmalade, and fruit snacks made from natural ingredients with a national flavor and modern packaging design.

The oil and fat industry is particularly important. In 2024, Kazakhstan's agricultural exports reached $5.1 billion, of which processed goods accounted for 52%. The oil and fat sector accounted for a quarter of this volume. Kazakhstan is among the world's top ten sunflower oil exporters, ranking 8th, with a forecast to rise to 6th. The country is a major supplier of vegetable oils and meal in Central Asia, fully satisfying the region's needs for sunflower meal and cake.

Answering a question about the significance of the CIIE, Ainur Sultanalieva emphasized that over the years, the exhibition has become one of the key global platforms shaping the development of international trade and investment. "By 2025, the CIIE has gone far beyond its traditional exhibition activities. It has become a tool for economic dialogue, mutual trust, and sustainable partnership between China and the rest of the world," she noted.

According to her, the CIIE promotes the balanced development of China's foreign trade within the framework of the "new model of an open economy," shifting from an export-oriented approach to stimulating imports and domestic demand. This makes the exhibition an important tool for modernizing consumption patterns and stimulating innovative growth in the country.

Ainur Sultanalieva emphasized that the CIIE is particularly important for developing economies, providing them with opportunities to promote their products and participate in global trade. This approach promotes a more equitable and inclusive development of global trade and strengthens the position of small economies on the international stage.

She also noted the successes of Kazakh-Chinese trade and economic relations: "Kazakhstan's exports to China in 2024 amounted to $15.8 billion, and the total trade turnover between the countries reached $30.2 billion."

CIIE 2025 is not just the largest import expo but also a platform that reflects China's commitment to openness, innovation, and win-win development. The expo showcases products, builds trust, creates new growth areas for the global economy, and supports global connectivity in a changing world.

On November 8, a forum on cultural exchange and development in cyberspace was held in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, as part of the 2025 World Internet Conference (WICC) summit. The event brought together officials and experts from China and other countries to discuss ways to promote cultural development in the digital environment.

The forum was organized by the China International Communication Group (CICG) and co-organized by China.org.cn, Tencent, and the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies. Guided by the Global Civilization Initiative, it brought together government officials, heads of international organizations, scholars, internet company representatives, and opinion leaders to discuss the latest trends in online cultural development, exchange experiences, and explore new opportunities to advance cultural dialogue.

Under the theme of "Deepening Cultural Exchanges in Cyberspace to Promote the Co-Prosperity of World Civilizations," the forum sought to build a bridge for dialogue among civilizations in the digital environment and bring new dynamics to the formation of an open and inclusive cyber community.

At the plenary session, David Ferguson, Honorary Editor-in-Chief of the English Language Press at the CICG, emphasized the importance of language professionals as "natural-born storytellers." He noted that artificial intelligence is transforming the translation field, threatening the disappearance of traditional roles, but the internet is opening up new opportunities, combining China's technological prowess with its cultural and linguistic soft power. Ferguson proposed creating a new professional field—"new technologies and international communications"—to fully unlock the potential of these resources.

Li Wei, Counselor to the State Council of the People's Republic of China and Vice Dean of the School of New Media at Peking University, noted in her speech: "Culture is the soul of civilization, and communication is its lifeline. With the rise of the internet and new media, the content and form of culture have undergone profound changes. Online culture balances heritage and innovation and becomes a new bridge connecting different civilizations."

Wang Jiang, President of the China Academy of Cyberspace Research, emphasized that generative AI is rapidly transforming the world. He expressed hope for a new consensus to emerge for online cultural exchange by strengthening culture through technology, building interpersonal bridges with a focus on the younger generation, and expanding the space for dialogue between civilizations based on respect and inclusiveness. "The internet is becoming a new platform for cultural diversity to flourish and an arena for mutual learning between civilizations," he said.

Zhu Dianjun, editor-in-chief and vice president of public policy at Tencent, noted that the technological revolution, driven by artificial intelligence, is creating new opportunities for cultural heritage, innovation, and dialogue between civilizations. "Tencent has always adhered to the mission of 'Technology for Good.' We strive to use technology as a foundation and culture as a source of soft power to build a bridge in the digital space that connects the past, present, and future," he said.

At the forum, experts shared practical approaches to cultural exchange in cyberspace. Hong Tao, Assistant General Manager of Zhonghua Shuju Book Company, explained how AI and ancient text data are helping to revive China's cultural heritage and bring the wisdom of millennia into the modern era. Jia Yi, Chairman and CEO of tech company Crazy Maple Studio, spoke about the short drama platform ReelShort, created for a global audience, and emphasized the importance of using algorithms and content ecosystems to bridge cultural gaps and foster co-creation. Stuart Wiggin, video creator and recipient of the Friendship Ambassador Award at the Second Orchid Awards, demonstrated how authentic stories in short videos can break down barriers and foster intercultural resonance.

Dong Yuhui, a former English tutor and internet celebrity, shared his experience reaching millions of viewers through cultural content. "The power of culture is immense and enduring—it can touch, comfort, and inspire people. Today, we stand at a crossroads: on one side, a centuries-old cultural tradition, on the other, a rising tide of digital innovation. Promoting the prosperity of global civilizations requires internet professionals to demonstrate the value of creativity and innovation," he noted.

During the roundtable, participants from various countries—including Chen Gang, Mohamed Jihad Mohamed Mostafa, Ekaterina Kaligaeva, Nikki Johnson, and Varga Bonita—discussed various narratives and practices of cross-cultural learning and demonstrated how new media can help bridge cultural divides.

The forum concluded with the launch of three key initiatives: the "China and the World" joint online platform for cultural exchange, the "2025 Chinese Cultural Symbols International Communication Index (CSIC) Report," and a showcase of international communication projects as part of the "Online Chinese Festivals" program. These initiatives open up new opportunities for promoting Chinese culture in the global digital space.

SHANGHAI, November 9 (Xinhua) — The 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) is being held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, with over 4,100 exhibitors from 150 countries and regions participating.

As the world's first national-level import expo, the CIIE has become a hallmark of China's high-level opening-up policy. Recently, the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee adopted proposals for the 15th Five-Year Plan for Social and Economic Development, emphasizing China's determination to advance high-level opening-up and share development opportunities with all countries.

ACCESS TO A WIDE MARKET

In 2025, the representation of countries from the Global South at the CIIE increased significantly. Companies from 123 Belt and Road Initiative partner countries participated in the exhibition, a 23 percent increase compared to 2024.

Kyrgyzstan is represented in the national pavilion area for the first time. Emma Savitskaya, director of the Kyrgyz company "Dary Tien Shanya," warmly recommends her product to visitors: "This is white honey. It's very tasty and healthy! Try it!"

"Why is honey white? Initially, flower honey can be creamy with a green tint or lemon-clear, and then turn white and gray during crystallization. This is a completely natural process. We guarantee the purity, naturalness, and quality of our honey. It's good for your health," she says.

E. Savitskaya believes that the CIIE is an exhibition aimed at a broader audience. "It gives us the opportunity to introduce Kyrgyz national products to Chinese and foreign visitors," she noted.

In addition to honey, the Kyrgyz stand features candies, jams, nuts, as well as national clothing, shyrdaks (carpets), felt slippers, bags, and other handicrafts.

"We brought our best exporters and manufacturers so that our Chinese friends could see our products," said Urmat Takirov, head of the Kyrgyz Export Center for Export Development and Promotion under the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan. He added that such an event will allow Kyrgyz companies to enter the Chinese market and benefit from China's economic openness.

MUTUAL BENEFIT

Russia is a long-time friend of the CIIE. According to the Russian Export Center (REC), 78 companies are participating in this year's exhibition, showcasing food, agricultural products, and consumer goods.

Products branded "Made in Russia" are gradually filling the Chinese market. Russian chocolate, honey, ice cream, beef, crab, and other products are becoming increasingly popular in China.

"We're pleased that our products are finding more and more fans. The company is bringing a completely new product to Shanghai—aged pork steak," said Vladimir Tretyakov, Director of Production at the Russian agro-industrial holding Miratorg. "We value our cooperation with our Chinese partners."

According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, the CIIE opens up new opportunities for Russia to expand business ties with China. "This platform will provide additional opportunities for Russian entrepreneurs and business circles to showcase their achievements, expand business ties with China, find reliable partners, and enter the international market," she emphasized.

The CIIE brings real benefits to everyone. According to statistics, the total value of deals announced during previous Import Expos exceeded USD 50 billion.

The Import Expo is one of the most important tools China uses to demonstrate openness and, in practice, allow countries to count on its market, said Sergei Vergeichik, an analyst at the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies (BISS). He added that all Eurasian countries, including Belarus, have the opportunity to prove their competitiveness and enter this large market. "Furthermore, this process is mutually beneficial," he added.

A PLATFORM FOR INNOVATION

"World premiere," "Asian premiere," "China premiere"—CIIE has long been a global platform for showcasing the latest innovations. This year's exhibition will showcase 461 new achievements in cutting-edge fields such as low-altitude economics, humanoid robots, next-generation information technology, AI, and clean energy.

In addition to traditional products, the Russian pavilion showcases high-tech industrial solutions and IT developments. Uzbekistan showcases new construction materials and electrical equipment. Kazakh companies showcase their achievements in digitalization and cross-border trade.

The Hongqiao International Economic Forum, which focused on digital innovation, green development, and the openness of the global economy, was held as part of the CIIE.

China is committed to openness, innovation, and the development of new productive forces, providing an excellent testing ground for companies from around the world, said Vice Minister of Commerce Lin Ji at the event. He noted that China has created trillions of dollars in economic opportunities in areas such as artificial intelligence, the digital economy, and green energy. During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, China will continue to innovate and develop new growth areas, deepen global cooperation, and inject new impetus into the world, the vice minister promised.
