Sion, Switzerland, November 9 (Xinhua) — The China International Import Expo (CIIE) represents a wonderful opportunity to showcase the "authenticity, diversity, and excellence" of Swiss products, said Damien Indermitt, marketing director of Maison Gilliard, one of Switzerland's oldest wineries, located in the southern canton of Valais.

In an interview with Xinhua, D. Indermitt noted that he and his team were proud to present their wines at the 8th CIIE in Shanghai, calling it “one of the most important and prestigious platforms in China.”

The Maison Gilliard stand, located in the food and agricultural products pavilion, occupies 290 square meters, making it the largest Swiss exhibit in the country's history at the fair.

D. Indermitt expressed hope that Maison Gilliard's wines will impress Chinese guests at the CIIE and that they will visit wineries and vineyards in the canton of Valais in the future.

He added that more than 50 grape varieties are grown in Valais alone. Maison Gilliard already exports its products to China and sees enormous potential in this market. –0–

Beijing, November 9 (Xinhua) — Following the entry into force of China's visa-free regime for Russian citizens with regular passports on September 15, 2025, as of November 4, 1,903 buses had passed through the Manzhouli Port of North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in both directions, carrying more than 44,600 passengers. Passenger traffic increased by 55.23 percent compared to the same period last year, according to a statement posted on the official website of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region government.

According to data from the Manzhouli City Transportation Bureau, during the above-mentioned period, the number of buses passing through the checkpoint as part of irregular passenger transportation between the two countries amounted to 1,997, and the passenger flow volume reached 43,482 person-times.

To better support the exchange of people and goods between China and Russia, the Manzhouli Transport Bureau has installed translation devices along passenger and cargo routes. Using these devices, border guards can explain the customs clearance process to Russian drivers in more detail, informing them of routes and safety precautions to ensure cross-border vehicles pass through the checkpoint smoothly.

As a reminder, an international scheduled passenger road service linking Manzhouli with Aginskoye, Russia, opened in September of this year. The Manzhouli-Aginskoye route is the sixth scheduled international passenger road service between China and Russia to pass through the Manzhouli checkpoint. Previous routes opened include Manzhouli-Zabaikalsk, Manzhouli-Krasnokamensk, Manzhouli-Borzya, Manzhouli-Chita, and Hailar-Chita.

Beirut, November 9 (Xinhua) — Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said on Saturday that "normalizing relations with Israel is out of the question."

In an interview with the Lebanese newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, N. Barry emphasized that all interested parties, including Lebanon, Israel, the United States, France, and the UN, should participate in indirect negotiations.

“There is no objection to the involvement of civilian experts when necessary, as was the case during the demarcation of the Blue Line in 2000, when geological and cartographic experts were consulted,” he said.

“All Israeli threats and airstrikes will not change our position on this issue,” he added.

A ceasefire has been in effect between Hezbollah and Israel since November 27, 2024. However, the Israeli army continues to periodically strike Lebanon, claiming its actions are aimed at countering Hezbollah "threats" and maintaining forces at five key positions along the Lebanese border.

Three Israeli airstrikes on Saturday hit three vehicles in the eastern and southern parts of the country, killing three people and wounding 11 others, Lebanon's official news agency reported.

The 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) is taking place in Shanghai from November 5 to 10. During the event, a journalist from russian.china.org.cn spoke with Azamat Rakhmonov, Head of the Department for Cooperation with China at the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Azamat Rakhmonov noted that Uzbekistan has been participating in the exhibition since 2018 and has done so regularly since then. "We are already seeing the effectiveness of this platform in attracting partners from China," he emphasized. He added that both the number of participants and visitors is growing every year. International companies actively use the EXPO to expand partnerships and enter new markets.

The representative reported that more than 50 Uzbek companies are participating in the exhibition this year, representing over 150 types of products—from agricultural goods and light and food industry products to chemical and geological products.

"Thanks to our participation in the EXPO, Uzbek companies are finding more and more partners interested in our products. We see that Uzbek goods are becoming recognizable in the Chinese market," Rakhmonov noted. He added that interest from Uzbek companies in participating in the exhibition is extremely high: "If capacity were available, over a thousand companies would express a desire to join the event."

He emphasized that, given China's growing openness, the country is Uzbekistan's largest trading partner. "We are opening trading houses in various Chinese provinces to promote Uzbek products. We also plan to create several permanent exhibition spaces where Chinese companies can see our goods," Rakhmonov said.

The representative also expressed confidence that the opening of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway under construction will provide new opportunities for the supply of Uzbek products to the Chinese market.

On November 8, 2025, the "Cultural Exchange and Development in Cyberspace" forum was held at the Wuzhen International Internet Expo Center in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, as part of the Wuzhen Summit of the World Internet Conference 2025. Participants discussed how, guided by the Global Civilization Initiative, dialogue among civilizations can be fostered through cyberspace to invigorate the building of a more open and inclusive community of shared destiny in cyberspace in the digital age.

Pictured: Ekaterina Kaligaeva, winner of the "Chinese Language Bridge" competition in Belarus, blogger, and presenter, speaks at a roundtable discussion. Photographer: Zheng Wei, a journalist with the website "Zhongwang."

During the roundtable discussion, Ekaterina Kaligaeva (Chinese name Su Xiaoxiao), winner of the "Chinese Language Bridge" competition in Belarus, content creator, and presenter, shared her five years of experience in intercultural communications. She noted that an effective way to promote international communication is by telling Chinese stories in a format accessible to foreign audiences, through genuine interactions and from a first-person perspective. She believes that authenticity resonates more deeply with foreign audiences than flawless production, allowing the world to see a China distinct from the image portrayed in Western media.

Ekaterina Kaligaeva explained that over the course of five years, she has visited every province in China. Through her media channel and in collaboration with local and international media, she introduces foreign audiences to Chinese cuisine, landmarks, and culture under the theme "Traveling in China." She has noticed that foreign viewers prefer an authentic and natural delivery. Even when her Chinese isn't perfect, or there are slight hiccups during interviews, this only enhances the content's appeal. For example, while filming a documentary about poverty alleviation, real-life scenes such as cooking and interacting with villagers in their homes, or dancing with old ladies in public squares, allowed foreign audiences to see the authentic lives of ordinary Chinese.

She particularly highlighted Chongqing's successful international communications, calling it one of the most effective this year. Short 15-second videos featuring night views of Hongyadong, river cruises, and other scenes, despite their simplicity and even some shaky footage, struck a chord with foreign viewers: "China is so cool!" These videos have garnered hundreds of millions and even billions of views, attracting numerous foreign tourists to Chongqing. This approach, which avoids glamorous special effects and instead showcases real scenes, has yielded unexpectedly positive results.

During events celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Belarus, Ekaterina Kaligaeva showed scenes of young people from both countries baking cakes, discussing music, and learning each other's languages, allowing viewers to experience the cultural commonalities between the two countries. In a video about China's intangible cultural heritage, footage of her wrapping zongzi and letting rice spill out sparked interest among international viewers. This not only helped spread awareness of the Dragon Boat Festival but also sparked curiosity about Chinese cuisine.

Ekaterina Kaligaeva concluded that authenticity and interactivity are key to telling a truthful and engaging story about China online. Real-life situations and live interactions help overcome cultural barriers, allowing the world to see a more complete and multifaceted China.
