Baku, November 12 /Xinhua/ — "This year I harvested about 10 tons of pomegranates and am very pleased with the harvest. 'Gyulosha' and 'shihbaba' are very famous here. They are juicy and delicious, and customers love them," Khagani Salehov, one of the farmers displaying his produce at the 16th Pomegranate Festival in the city of Goychay, Goychay District, Azerbaijan, told Xinhua News Agency correspondents.

Kh. Salehov has been growing and selling pomegranates for over 30 years and is a regular participant in this festival, which was first held in 2006. This year, the Pomegranate Festival was celebrated on November 9 at the Goychay City Stadium, where over 60 stands featuring various pomegranate varieties were set up. The festival was organized by the Goychay District Executive Authority with the support of the State Tourism Agency and the Small and Medium Business Development Agency of Azerbaijan.

"The birthplace of the pomegranate is Goychay. The Pomegranate Festival has become a trademark in our horticulture and fruit growing industries. This fruit helps local farmers supplement their family income," said Zivyar Zeynalova, Deputy Head of the Goychay District Executive Authority in Azerbaijan.

On the day of the festival, performers dressed in pomegranate costumes sang and danced at the stadium entrance, welcoming guests from across Azerbaijan and abroad. A temporary stage hosted competitions—who could squeeze juice by hand the fastest and who could hold a heavy basket of pomegranates the longest. Stands featured juices, jams, wine, salads, and other pomegranate products, as well as paintings, carvings, ceramics, and handicrafts dedicated to this fruit.

"It's great when people from different countries get to know each other's traditions. We have special fruits and dishes—they're distinctive in both appearance and taste. I think foreign guests should try them," said Fidan Gabilova, a tourist from Baku who came to the festival.

Nearly 70 varieties of pomegranate are grown in the Goychay district, and the region is widely known for the high quality of its fruit. Azerbaijanis have long cultivated pomegranates, considering them the "king of fruits." In 2020, UNESCO inscribed the Azerbaijani Pomegranate Festival, its traditional festival, and its culture on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

"This festival is very important because it brings people together, has fun, and has the opportunity to showcase our culture. Pomegranates symbolize abundance, health, prosperity, unity, and joy," said Arzu Chiragi, a 19-year-old student at the Goychay State Management and Technological College.

The peak pomegranate harvest in the Goychay district occurs in late October and early November. According to data, approximately 50,000 tons of pomegranates are grown annually in the Goychay district on an area of approximately 4,000 hectares. According to Z. Zeynalova, Goychay pomegranates are in high demand and are exported primarily to Russia, Georgia, and Central Asian countries.

"China is a huge market. We want Geychay garnets to reach there too," she added.

Moscow, November 12 (Xinhua) — The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has imposed an indefinite entry ban on 30 Japanese citizens. This was announced on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website on Tuesday.

The list includes Japanese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Kitamura Toshihiro, journalists from the Asahi, Nikkei, Mainichi, and Yomimuri newspapers, Fuji TV, TBS, and the Kyodo news agency, professors from Hitotsubashi University, Keio University, and the University of Tokyo, etc.

Changchun, November 12 (Xinhua) — A special train consisting of 46 containers carrying household goods, appliances, and electronic products departed from the Hunchun Railway Port on Tuesday bound for Moscow, the Russian capital. This marked the official launch of the China-Russia "Hunchun-Moscow" postal container train.

This train will carry postal items between China and Russia, along with other goods traded between the two countries, thereby creating an efficient logistics corridor between Hunchun and Moscow.

The city of Hunchun is located in the eastern part of Jilin Province, at the junction of the state borders of China, Russia and the DPRK.

In recent years, the Hunchun Port Authority has taken measures to improve customs clearance efficiency, such as introducing a 10-hour opening hours at the road checkpoint and a 24/7 opening hours at the railway checkpoint.

Since the launch of the Hunchun-Mahalino special mail train in November 2023, a total of 164 special trains have been dispatched and more than 380,000 pieces of mail have been transported, promoting Sino-Russian trade exchanges and the development of cross-border e-commerce between the two countries.

Lanzhou, November 12 (Xinhua) — Twenty-six electric buses manufactured by Lanzhou Guangtong New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. recently departed for Tashkent from a bonded industrial zone in Lanzhou New District, northwest China's Gansu Province. The electric buses will cross the Chinese border through the Khorgos checkpoint in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and arrive in Uzbekistan in approximately 10 days.

This shipment is a continuation of the first batch of 14 domestically produced electric buses successfully exported to Uzbekistan in October of this year, and the second one sent to the Central Asian country.

According to the aforementioned company, the 26 electric buses, valued at approximately 260 million yuan, are equipped with an independently developed all-electric drive system. They offer a range of over 300 km on a single charge. The electric buses are capable of operating reliably even in extreme weather conditions ranging from -30 to +50 degrees Celsius.

Fourteen electric buses, delivered last month at a total cost of approximately 17 million yuan, have reportedly already been put into operation in Uzbekistan and have received recognition from customers and local passengers. -0-

BEIJING, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) — The number of trains operating on China-Europe and China-Central Asia routes from the China-SCO Regional Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province, increased by 13.8 percent year-on-year to 1,042 in January-October 2025, exceeding the combined volume of the previous year, setting a new record.

According to the Qingdao Daily newspaper, citing data obtained from the zone administration, 22 regular international railway freight transport routes currently pass through the China-SCO Demonstration Zone, connecting 54 cities in 23 SCO countries and states participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.

In addition, trains specially designed for transporting household appliances, tires, commercial vehicles, and food products regularly depart from the China-SCO Demonstration Zone. China-Europe freight trains carry products from over 7,000 foreign trade enterprises, effectively contributing to the security and stability of global production and supply chains.

The continuous expansion of overseas coverage is an important reason for the rapid growth in the number of China-Europe train departures from the China-SCO Demonstration Zone.

To build an effective cross-border logistics and trade system, the China-SCO Demonstration Zone is constantly expanding the number of overseas logistics hubs and establishing sorting centers in overseas cities such as Belgrade, Almaty, Moscow, and Vientiane, thereby deepening cooperation with key regions.

Zang Yuanqi, the official in charge of the China-SCO Demonstration Zone Administration, announced plans to continue expanding cargo collection capabilities, optimize the distribution of overseas warehouses, accelerate the development of new business forms and models such as "cross-border e-commerce trains" and "cold chain trains," and help SCO countries enter the Asia-Pacific commodity market.
