Washington, November 14 (Xinhua) — The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects U.S. GDP growth in the fourth quarter of 2025 to be lower than the previously projected 1.9 percent, but is experiencing a data shortage due to the recent federal government shutdown. This was stated by IMF spokesperson Julie Kozak at a press briefing on Thursday.

The lack of accurate economic data due to the record 43-day shutdown is making it difficult for the IMF to assess the health of the US economy, she noted.

"The US economy has proven its resilience over the past few years. Now we're seeing pressures starting to build," said J. Kozak. "Domestic demand is weakening, and employment growth is slowing. The combination of declining immigration, tariffs, and broader political uncertainty is putting pressure on activity," she added.

However, this effect will likely end in the first quarter of 2026, said J. Kozak.

According to the IMF, inflation in the US is moving toward the Federal Reserve's 2 percent target, but tariffs are increasing the upside risks. Despite stabilized inflation expectations, rising prices are "causing pain for certain segments of society," J. Kozak emphasized.

Hanoi, November 14 (Xinhua) — A landslide in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang on Friday left three people missing, and search and rescue efforts are underway, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

Three people were working in a field on Friday morning when a landslide occurred. All three are still missing.

The landslide was caused by a large volume of soil and rocks from a hill in Hung Son commune, combined with groundwater that had accumulated over a long period of time.

According to local newspaper Tien Phong, an entire section of a hill collapsed, burying about five farmhouses and damaging more than 200 meters of road.

According to local authorities, prolonged rains and floods since the end of September have caused landslides in many areas of the commune.

Families in high-risk areas were relocated to minimize potential losses. –0–

Since the beginning of this year, the corporation has been systematically advancing the design and construction of railways and accelerating the creation of a modern, world-class railway network.

At the next stage, efforts will be made to further facilitate the implementation of key projects, tighten control over safety and quality, and ensure high-quality implementation of the planned investment tasks in railway construction for the entire year, KZhD stated. -0-

BEIJING, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) — A Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson said Friday that PLA Navy ships will sail wherever necessary to safeguard national interests.

Responding to questions about the selection of Sanya Port as the permanent homeport for the aircraft carrier Fujian, Chinese Ministry of Defense spokesman Jiang Bin stated that Sanya's military port was chosen based on factors such as its hydrological conditions, location, the construction of supporting infrastructure in the surrounding area, and the aircraft carrier's ability to carry out combat training missions at sea.

The aircraft carrier Fujian, China's first aircraft carrier equipped with electromagnetic catapults, was commissioned earlier this month at the naval port of Sanya in South China's Hainan Province.

Jiang Bin reiterated that China adheres to the path of peaceful development, pursues a defensive defense policy, and the Chinese military is a strong force for safeguarding world peace. -0-

BEIJING, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian on Friday criticized the United States for selling arms to the Chinese region of Taiwan, saying China expresses serious dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to the move and will take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.

The Pentagon announced Thursday that the U.S. side had approved the first arms sale to Taiwan during Donald Trump's second presidency, according to media reports.

Asked to comment on the reports, Lin Jian said at a regular departmental press conference that the US arms sales to Taiwan seriously violate the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiqués, especially the communiqué of August 17, 1982, undermine China's sovereignty and security interests, violate international law, and send a seriously wrong signal to separatist forces advocating "Taiwan independence."

"The Taiwan question lies at the core of China's core interests and is the first red line that must not be crossed in Sino-US relations," Lin Jian noted.

China urges the US to adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, implement the commitments made by US leaders on Taiwan-related issues, stop condoning and assisting separatist forces in their attempt to achieve "Taiwan independence" through military buildup, and safeguard China-US relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait with concrete actions, the Chinese diplomat added. -0-

BEIJING, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) — Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Jiang Bin on Friday warned Japan of a "crushing defeat" if it dares to take risks on the Taiwan issue.

He made the statement at a press conference in response to journalists' requests to comment on Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent remarks that Japan's Self-Defense Forces could exercise their right to collective self-defense if mainland China uses military force against Taiwan.

"The Japanese leader's erroneous remarks regarding Taiwan constitute gross interference in China's internal affairs and a serious violation of the one-China principle, the spirit of the Four Political Documents between China and Japan, and the basic norms of international relations," Jiang Bin emphasized.

According to him, these statements challenge the post-war international order and send a profoundly wrong signal to forces advocating for "Taiwan independence." "Such statements are outrageous and have had profoundly negative consequences. They are extremely irresponsible and dangerous," Jiang Bin added.

He added that the Taiwan issue is an exclusively internal matter for China and does not allow any outside interference.

"If the Japanese side fails to learn from history and dares to take risks or even use force to interfere in the Taiwan issue, it will suffer a crushing defeat at the hands of the iron-willed People's Liberation Army (PLA) and pay a heavy price," the Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman stated. -0-

BEIJING, November 14 (Xinhua) — The first freight train on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan multimodal international freight transport route departed from Xi'an International Port in Northwest China's Shaanxi Province on Thursday, the Shaanxi Daily newspaper reported.

As reported, train number X9015, loaded with 45 containers of auto parts, will arrive at the northern railway station in the city of Kashgar in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (northwest China). The cargo will then be transported to the Uzbek city of Jizzakh by road, crossing the state border through the Irkeshtam border crossing in Xinjiang.

The delivery time for these goods is expected to be 20 days in total, which is 4-5 days shorter than previous transportation methods.

According to the Xi'an branch of China State Railway Corporation, the launch of multimodal freight transport between China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan via rail and road reduces logistics costs for foreign trade companies and stimulates trade and economic exchanges between Shaanxi Province and Central Asia.

The successful departure of the first train laid a solid foundation for the operation of similar trains on a large-scale and regular basis in the future, the company added. -0-
