JOHANNESBURG, November 15 (Xinhua) — South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed that the upcoming Group of 20 (G20) leaders' summit will go ahead as planned despite the US decision not to attend.

Speaking in Kliptown, Johannesburg, on November 14, Ramaphosa stated that South Africa is ready to host world leaders and ensure the success of the meeting. "The summit will go ahead. We're not going to stop it just because they won't be here," he noted, emphasizing that most G20 leaders have confirmed their participation.

S. Ramaphosa indicated that US President Donald Trump had recalled all US representatives, citing allegations of abuse of Afrikaners and “genocide.”

Stressing that “boycott policies never work,” he added: “If you boycott an event or a process, you lose because the show will go on.”

The G20 Leaders' Summit will take place on November 22 and 23 in Johannesburg, South Africa's largest city and economic hub. –0–

WASHINGTON, November 15 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump's administration issued an executive order on Friday to eliminate "equivalent" tariffs on some agricultural products to ease rising prices.

According to a document released by the White House, products no longer subject to the tariffs include coffee and tea, tropical fruits and fruit juices, cocoa and spices, bananas, oranges and tomatoes, beef and some types of fertilizer.

The order took effect on Thursday. Existing duties will be refunded.

U.S. President Donald Trump has determined that further review of the "equivalent" tariffs is necessary and appropriate given the significant progress in bilateral trade negotiations, current domestic demand for certain products, and domestic production capacity for certain products, according to a White House statement.

Tariff waivers are intended to lower prices and are primarily applied to foods that are "not competitive in this country," such as bananas, Trump told reporters on Friday.

The annualized increase in the US consumer price index for September 2025 was 3 percent, compared to 2.9 percent in August 2025. In particular, prices for beef and veal in September increased by 14.7 percent compared to the same period last year, and coffee by 18.9 percent. –0–

BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) — Beijing's Central Business District (CBD) ranked sixth in the world, up one place from 2020, according to the World Business District Attractiveness Report 2025 released Friday.

The report was first released by the international professional services firm EY, with the support of the Global Business District Innovation Club, in 2017. An updated version was published in 2020, marking the third edition.

The report's authors evaluate 30 leading business districts in 19 countries using a benchmarking system across eight categories, including talent, market proximity, influence, macroeconomic conditions, real estate, urban amenities, innovation, and sustainability. The ranking includes both specific categories and overall results.

The top five business districts worldwide include New York's downtown and financial district, Tokyo's Marunouchi District, Paris's La Défense District, and the City of London. Among other Chinese business districts, Hong Kong's Central District ranks 13th, Shanghai's Pudong-Lujiazui District ranks 14th, and Guangzhou's Tianhe Central Business District ranks 22nd.

Beijing's central business district, located in the Chaoyang district, received particularly high scores in the areas of urban amenities and talent. The report notes that it has successfully created a work-life-leisure ecosystem with a high density of cultural facilities, retail, restaurants, and public spaces.

The continued rise of Beijing's Central Business District in global rankings reflects the growing all-round competitiveness of Chinese cities on the global stage, according to the Beijing Central Business District Administration. -0-

BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) — The final samples from 26 scientific experiments conducted aboard the Chinese space station, weighing about 46.67 kg, were delivered to Earth on Friday, according to the Space Application Engineering and Technology Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

As part of the ninth transfer of materials from the orbital laboratory, the Shenzhou-21 return capsule delivered to Earth samples obtained during experiments in the fields of space life sciences, materials science, and combustion research.

After landing, the mice participating in the life science experiments were immediately subjected to "field treatment." Researchers will analyze their behavior and key physiological and biochemical parameters to understand the animals' responses to stress and their adaptation mechanisms to spaceflight conditions. The scientists believe these results will provide crucial insights into how the space environment affects living organisms.

Other biological samples, including zebrafish, hornwort, streptomycetes, planarians, and brain organoids, as well as individual samples for materials science and combustion experiments, were delivered to the aforementioned center in Beijing at 12:40 AM on Saturday. After an initial condition check, these samples were handed over to research teams for further study. The remaining samples will be delivered to Beijing aboard the Shenzhou-21 return capsule.

The scientists will then conduct transcriptome sequencing of the extracted cell samples to investigate the changes induced by microgravity, identify key biological mechanisms, and identify potential intervention targets. This work is expected to contribute to the development of new strategies for the prevention and treatment of related diseases.

According to the center, the researchers will study the microstructure, chemical composition, and elemental distribution of returned material samples, such as tungsten-hafnium alloys, soft magnetic materials, and relaxed ferroelectric single crystals.

These analyses will help determine how gravity affects material growth, compositional separation, solidification defects, and overall performance, as well as the performance of materials in space environments.

The results are expected to advance a range of applications, including protective materials for high-efficiency solar cells, high-gain, radiation-hardened optical fibers, and innovative materials processing technologies for lunar infrastructure. These developments will provide important theoretical and technical support for satellite communications and space exploration.

After returning samples from the combustion experiments, including burners, soot collection plates, and lids, scientists will analyze the resulting flame-induced semiconductor nanomaterials, soot samples, and nanocarbon particle formation characteristics, the center said.

The results of this work may contribute to advances in the fields of extraterrestrial flame synthesis of nanomaterials, new energy systems, fire safety in space, and the production of functional nanocarbon. -0-
