TAIPEI, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) — Political figures, opinion leaders and media outlets across Taiwan have condemned Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's provocative remarks against Taiwan, calling them extremely unreasonable and detrimental to the interests of Taiwan residents seeking peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

Recently, S. Takaichi stated that "the use of force against Taiwan" by mainland China could create a "situation threatening the survival" of Japan, hinting at the possibility of armed intervention by the Japanese Self-Defense Forces in the Taiwan Strait. Despite repeated stern warnings from China, Japan refuses to retract these statements.

As former Kuomintang Party Chairman Ma Ying-jeou noted, S. Takaichi's position on the Taiwan issue inevitably evokes associations with the revival of Japanese right-wing militarism.

According to him, the Taiwan Strait issue cannot be resolved through external intervention and must be discussed by people on both sides of the strait. "Chinese people on both sides possess the wisdom and ability to resolve differences peacefully," Ma Ying-jeou emphasized.

Another former Kuomintang leader, Hong Xiuzhu, accused S. Takaichi of making provocative statements that push Taiwan to the brink of danger and expose the unresolved vestiges of Japanese militarism.

“We will firmly tell anyone who tries to push Taiwan to the brink of war: we will not allow it,” Hong Xiuzhu said.

The publisher of the Taiwanese magazine Guancha (The Observer), Ji Xin, recalled that during the Japanese occupation, the people of Taiwan never ceased to resist in a variety of ways. "Today, any Taiwanese with a sense of justice will speak out against S. Takaichi's disgusting statements," she added.

An editorial in the Taiwanese daily newspaper China Times warned that the Democratic Progressive Party leadership should not delude itself or pin any hopes on Takaichi's remarks about a "Taiwan emergency." The article notes that supporting Japan's radical course, based on the logic of "confronting the mainland," will only bring Taiwan closer to a dangerous situation.

Tehran, November 16 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that Western governments are once again calling for continued negotiations on Tehran's nuclear program after "failing" to achieve their goals through recent military action, according to Iran's official news agency IRNA.

A. Araghchi noted that calls for dialogue are "natural" after Western powers "failed to achieve what they sought with regard to Iran's nuclear program through military attacks." The diplomat added that there is no military solution to the issue.

He stressed that Iran would not agree to negotiations conducted under pressure, noting that they should be based on “reasonable and logical” principles, not “dictatorship and intimidation.”

According to A. Araghchi, the United States and Israel failed to achieve any of their goals during the latest conflict: although airstrikes damaged Iran's nuclear facilities, they failed to destroy Iran's technological capabilities and the resolve of its people. "Our facilities were destroyed, but our technology remained, and our will became even stronger," the Iranian Foreign Minister stated.

A. Araghchi pointed out that Iran is always ready for serious negotiations under the right conditions, and reiterated that diplomacy remains “the best way” to resolve disputes in the region.

Iran and the United States held five rounds of Oman-brokered proximity talks on Iran's nuclear program and the lifting of U.S. sanctions against Tehran. They were preparing for a sixth round when, on June 13, Israel launched massive air strikes on Iran's nuclear and military facilities, killing senior military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians. On June 22, the U.S. military joined the attacks, striking Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan.
