Minsk, November 18 (Xinhua) — The opening of border crossings is important for restoring normal relations between Belarus and Poland, Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov stated in an interview with the Belarusian television channel Perviy Informatsionnyy on Monday.

On Monday, Poland resumed operations at two border crossings with Belarus: Berestovitsa (adjacent to the Polish checkpoint Bobrowniki) and Bruzgi (adjacent to the Polish checkpoint Kuznica Belostocka).

In this regard, M. Ryzhenkov noted that Poland demonstrated “normal, tough pragmatism” with its decision to open the checkpoints.

"Relationships between ordinary people and business representatives always take the lead, and then politicians follow suit. Therefore, the atmosphere, the background, is quite positive," he said.

Astana, November 17 (Xinhua) — At the invitation of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Estonian President Alar Karis arrived in Astana on a state visit from November 17 to 19. On the first day of the visit, the two sides held talks and issued a joint statement, Kazinform reported on Monday, citing the press service of the Kazakh presidential administration (Akorda).

During talks in narrow and expanded formats, the presidents discussed cooperation in areas such as economics and trade, digitalization and artificial intelligence, transport and logistics links, critical minerals, industry, education, and science. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that Kazakhstan views Estonia as an important partner in the European Union.

A. Karis noted that Estonia considers Kazakhstan its main economic partner in Central Asia and is ready to facilitate the entry of Kazakh businesses into the EU market. According to Akorda, over 80 Estonian companies operate in Kazakhstan, and Estonia's direct investment volume has exceeded USD 128 million since 2005.

The parties expressed interest in expanding business contacts. The Estonian delegation includes representatives from approximately 40 companies from the logistics, information and communications technology, high technology, cybersecurity, and education sectors. A business forum is planned as part of the visit to discuss the prospects for new joint projects.

Following the talks, the presidents confirmed their readiness to strengthen political and economic partnership and adopted a joint statement. –0–

Astana, November 17 (Xinhua) — A nationwide competition to choose a name for Kazakhstan's first nuclear power plant has concluded. "Balkhash" has won, Kazinform reported on Monday, citing the press service of the Kazakhstan Atomic Energy Agency.

The competition ran from September 25 to October 10. According to the agency, 10,460 unique ideas were submitted. A special commission reviewed the 100 most popular proposals. The name "Balkhash" was submitted by 882 participants and won first place.

The agency noted that the choice of name is in line with international practice, whereby nuclear power plants are named based on their geographic location.

Deputy Chairman of the agency, Asset Makhambetov, announced that all citizens who voted for the chosen name will be considered its co-authors. They will receive corresponding electronic certificates within a month.

In addition, the agency has created a unified database of all proposed options, which will be used when selecting names for future nuclear facilities. –0–

Taiwan is an integral part of China, says Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Kazan Xiang Bo.

Moscow, November 17 /Xinhua/ — The Taiwan issue is one of the most vital to China's national interests; it is an untouchable red line that China will not allow anyone to cross. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's provocative statement about Japan's possible intervention in the Taiwan Strait is extremely dangerous; it constitutes blatant interference in China's internal affairs and seriously undermines the post-war international order. This is stated in an article by Chinese Consul General in Kazan Xiang Bo, published in Russian media on Monday, which presents China's position on the Taiwan issue.

“The Taiwan issue is the core of China’s core interests, an untouchable red line,” the diplomat writes.

This article provides a brief historical overview confirming that Taiwan is an inherently Chinese territory. In 1895, Japan seized Taiwan and the Penghu Islands by force, establishing 50 years of colonial rule and committing countless crimes. Following World War II, the island was returned to China. This was recorded in a number of fundamental international documents—the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Proclamation, and the Instrument of Surrender of Japan. These documents laid the historical and legal foundation for Taiwan's inalienable status as part of China. On October 25, 1945, the Chinese government declared its sovereignty over Taiwan restored. The status of Taiwan was fully resolved. Recently, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China adopted a resolution declaring October 25 as Taiwan Liberation Day.

According to Xiang Bo, shortly after winning the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the ruling Kuomintang clique unleashed a full-scale civil war in China, but suffered a complete defeat within just three years. The United States supported the Kuomintang clique, preventing the People's Liberation Army from liberating Taiwan, which led to the emergence of the Taiwan question. On October 1, 1949, the Central People's Government of the People's Republic of China was proclaimed, becoming the country's sole legitimate government. This was a change of government without changing China, a subject of international law. "China's sovereignty and inalienable territorial boundaries have not changed, and the PRC government fully possesses and exercises sovereignty over all of China, including Taiwan," the Chinese diplomat emphasized.

“For more than 70 years, despite the long-standing political confrontation between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, China’s sovereignty and territory have never been divided, and Taiwan’s status as part of China has never changed,” the article notes.

"The one-China principle has become the fundamental norm of international relations and the general consensus of the international community," Xiang Bo states. To date, 183 countries have established diplomatic relations with China, and all of them support the Chinese government's principled position on the Taiwan issue.

The Consul General emphasized that anyone who dares to interfere in any way with the great cause of China's reunification will be decisively rebuffed. The Japanese Prime Minister's recent misguided words and actions, he noted, seriously deviate from the one-China principle, challenge China's core interests, and infringe on the country's sovereignty.

"China and Russia are comprehensive strategic partners and have consistently and firmly supported each other on issues concerning their core interests. The Russian side clearly and unambiguously opposes any form of 'Taiwan independence' and firmly supports the Chinese side in defending national sovereignty and territorial integrity and achieving national reunification. Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated this, and it is also clearly reflected in a number of important political documents of the two countries, which fully demonstrates the high level of Sino-Russian relations and the spirit of strategic cooperation," Xiang Bo's article states.

LHASA, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) — A wind power project with the largest unit capacity in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region was connected to the grid on Monday, marking a breakthrough in the development of the region's new energy sector.

The power plant, built by the Xizang branch of Huadian New Energy Group Co., Ltd., is located at an altitude of 5,370 meters above sea level in Chonggye County (Qiongze) in Shannan City. It comprises 12 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 60 MW and is equipped with a grid-tied energy storage system.

Once the project is operational, the annual electricity generated is expected to meet the needs of approximately 120,000 households. This equates to an average annual reduction of 128,700 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

By using innovative engineering solutions, the builders were able to overcome challenges such as an altitude of over 5,000 m above sea level and sharp daily temperature fluctuations.

According to the builders, the project's implementation also allowed for the restoration of vegetation over an area of 360,000 square meters, ensuring both infrastructure development and environmental protection.

Xizang currently has a comprehensive energy system, with hydroelectric power as its primary source of energy, and geothermal, wind, and solar power plants as additional sources. From 2015 to 2024, Xizang exported 15.8 billion kWh of clean electricity to other regions. –0–
