Moscow, November 18 (Xinhua) — The opening of a calligraphy and painting exhibition at the State Tretyakov Gallery, co-organized with the National Museum of China, and a joint concert by Chinese and Russian musicians marked the final events of the China-Russia Years of Culture, which took place in 2024-2025 at the initiative of the leaders of the two countries. The closing ceremony took place on Monday in the historic building of the State Tretyakov Gallery in central Moscow.

Addressing the ceremony's guests, China's Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism Gao Zheng stated that humanitarian exchanges are an important component of the Chinese-Russian comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation in the new era.

"The closing of the China-Russia Years of Culture is not the end, but a new starting point for the further development of cultural exchange between our countries," he said, assuring that China is ready to work with Russia to consistently develop cultural and tourism exchanges and cooperation, creating new and vibrant pages in the mutual enrichment of the two countries' cultures.

As State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Culture of Russia Zhanna Alekseyeva noted, Russia and China have held over 400 events over the past two years. "The Years of Russian and Chinese Culture have become a vibrant chapter in the cultural annals of our countries and have elevated the entire spectrum of cultural and humanitarian cooperation to a new level. They have demonstrated that the demand for Russian culture in China and Chinese culture in Russia is steadily growing, attracting ever more young talent. By concluding this truly ambitious project, we are not drawing a full stop, but rather opening a new chapter in the history of our cultural ties," she emphasized.

The ceremony included a joint concert by musicians from the orchestra of the National Opera and Dance Drama Theatre of China and the soloists' ensemble of the National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments of Russia named after N.P. Osipov.

The final chord of the concluding Years of China-Russia Culture was a large-scale exhibition of Chinese painting and calligraphy, "From Beijing to Moscow: A Dialogue of Cultures," which opened at the Tretyakov Gallery. The exhibition features items from the collection of the National Museum of China—scrolls, albums, and fans. The exhibition covers two major periods of Chinese history and culture from the 14th to the 19th centuries—the Ming and Qing dynasties. The exhibition will run until February 23, 2026. –0–

Baku, November 18 /Xinhua/ — The number of Chinese tourists visiting Azerbaijan from January to October 2025 increased by 49 percent, reaching 57,000. This was announced on Monday by Fuad Nagiyev, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan, at the China Visitors Summit, which was held for the first time in Baku and brought together more than 50 Chinese travel companies, as well as representatives of the local tourism industry.

F. Nagiyev noted that holding the summit in Baku is an important step in strengthening cooperation between the two countries. He stated that the participation of Chinese companies "will contribute to the development of cooperation between representatives of the two countries' tourism industries, as well as the promotion of Azerbaijan's tourism potential."

He emphasized that the mutual visa-free agreement signed in the spring, as well as the launch of direct flights between Baku and Beijing and Baku and Urumqi, demonstrate the dynamic development of bilateral relations.

In his address to summit participants, Florian Sengstschmid, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, announced that Azerbaijan intends to expand the Destinations Azerbaijan program in China. He noted that the Chinese market is of key importance, as China is currently the largest outbound tourism market in the world.

According to him, this year the bureau organized two major roadshows in six Chinese cities, four introductory seminars, and several press tours. "The opening of our office in China in early 2026 will be an important milestone in the promotion of Destinations Azerbaijan," he noted.

The Chinese Tourist Summit in Baku brought together representatives of the Chinese and Azerbaijani tourism industries at a venue focused primarily on B2B interactions. The summit has been held since 2008 in various countries and is one of the leading events designed to establish business contacts between tourism providers and Chinese buyers.

The summit is based on a series of pre-scheduled individual meetings, allowing service providers to select target partners based on tourism flows, including leisure and business travelers. The summit also includes study tours for representatives of Chinese tourism companies to Azerbaijan's regions. According to the organizers, this will allow Chinese specialists to gain a better understanding of the regions' tourism potential and strengthen practical cooperation.

TOKYO, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) — Okinawa Governor Danny Tamaki said on Monday that the Japanese people are categorically opposed to revising the Three Non-Nuclear Principles and any other steps that run counter to efforts to eliminate nuclear weapons, local media reported.

In response to reports that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is considering revising the Three Non-Nuclear Principles, Tamaki noted that Japan is the only country to have been subjected to atomic bombings, and people will say "no" to such a move.

"Understanding the people's desire to eliminate nuclear weapons is the Prime Minister's responsibility," Tamaki said, adding that he hoped the government would give due consideration to the issue.

Nagasaki Governor Kengo Oishi also voiced his disagreement at a press conference the same day, emphasizing that Takaichi's thoughts on revising the principles were completely unacceptable for a place devastated by the atomic bombing.

The Three Non-Nuclear Principles, which include the renunciation of the possession, production, and importation of nuclear weapons into Japan, were first announced in the Japanese Diet in 1967 by then-Prime Minister Eisaku Sato and were regarded as a national credo. –0–
