Japanese media and academics continue to criticize S. Takaichi for his erroneous statements about Taiwan.

TOKYO, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) — Japanese media experts and scholars continue to criticize Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi for her misguided remarks regarding China's Taiwan, calling her tenure as prime minister a crisis threatening Japan's survival.

On November 7, at a Diet session, S. Takaichi stated that the emergency surrounding Taiwan could constitute a "survival-threatening situation" for Japan, allowing the country to exercise its right to collective self-defense.

Noriyuki Kawamura, a professor emeritus at Nagoya University of Foreign Studies and vice president of the Japan-China Relations Association, stated in a recent article that Takaichi's remarks on Taiwan contradict the position of previous Japanese administrations, constitute interference in China's internal affairs, and violate the one-China principle.

"S. Takaichi's very tenure as prime minister represents a situation that threatens Japan's survival," stated a recent editorial in the Japanese newspaper Shakai Shimpo.

It notes that S. Takaichi's political intentions are becoming increasingly obvious: she ignores the interests of the people, blindly follows in the footsteps of the United States, and is trying to actively stimulate military expansion.

The editorial also noted that Takaichi's policy speech was full of aggressive statements, such as achieving the defense spending target ahead of schedule, creating a new national intelligence agency, and easing arms export regulations, which can only be seen as a deliberate attempt to escalate tensions.

Since Takaichi's election as prime minister, her political base has been unstable. The ruling coalition, formed by her Liberal Democratic Party and the Japan Innovation Party, holds less than half the seats in both houses of parliament.

According to the Shakai Shimpo newspaper, S. Takaichi should have “hidden her harshness” and listened to the opinions of opposition parties, but it is clear that she has decided to strengthen her base by emphasizing her right-wing position.

Professor Emeritus Atsushi Koketsu of Japan's Yamaguchi University believes that Takaichi's statements fundamentally refute Japan's path to developing as a peaceful state in accordance with its pacifist constitution and deserve harsh criticism.

According to the professor, political calculations are clearly at work here. The Prime Minister is seeking to strengthen his support base by constantly hyping the "China threat" theory. A. Koketsu added that outspoken statements on the Taiwan issue, which constitute interference in China's internal affairs, are unacceptable and outrageous.

Yoichi Jomaru, a former journalist for the Asahi Shimbun newspaper, emphasized that the Takaichi administration attempted to downplay the situation by claiming that its statements were no different from the government's long-standing position, but that its statements regarding Taiwan were extremely reckless. Such a statement was in itself a mistake and should be retracted as soon as possible.

"For Japan's security, diplomacy, and economy, establishing a mutually beneficial relationship with China must be a top priority," stated A. Koketsu. He emphasized that Japan should strive to build peaceful relations with China, based on the one-China principle agreed upon during the normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Beijing, November 19 (Xinhua) — Every year, the China International Import Expo (CIIE) attracts the world's attention. The 8th CIIE recently concluded in Shanghai, eastern China. As an important platform for China to actively expand opening-up and promote high-level opening-up, the event has become a "golden channel" for high-quality products from around the world to enter the Chinese market since its inception in 2018. And on this stage, which unites global innovation and high quality, the national brand "Made in Russia" participated in the exhibition for the eighth consecutive year, becoming a living illustration of the deepening trade and economic cooperation between China and Russia.

At CIIE 2025, the "Made in Russia" brand once again showcased its extensive exhibit, bringing together 78 leading companies from five sectors: food and agricultural products, consumer goods, healthcare and medicine, information technology (IT), and services. Among these, food industry companies continue to form the core (61 exhibitors), fully showcasing Russia's advantages in agriculture and healthy food production. The addition of high-value-added industries such as healthcare and IT also demonstrates that "Made in Russia" is evolving beyond its traditional focus toward a broader and more diversified direction.

Thus, the participation of "Made in Russia" in CIIE 2025 demonstrates that Russia can offer not only high-quality agricultural products but also innovative technologies, reliable medical solutions, and designer consumer goods. This diversified, high-quality, and sustainable brand image is highly consistent with current trends in the Chinese market: growing consumer demand and a desire for a healthy lifestyle.

The products on display not only offer a diverse range but also generally comply with the requirements of the "Made in Russia" national brand certification system. This system, overseen by the Russian Export Center (REC), is a voluntary certification mechanism that focuses on assessing the quality, environmental friendliness, and authenticity of products.

"Made in Russia" isn't just a label; it's a commitment to quality and responsibility. This helps Russian companies build trust in foreign markets, especially in a health- and safety-conscious market like China.

REC Vice President Tatyana An announced at the 8th China International Import Expo in Shanghai that the REC plans to significantly increase the number of specialized "Made in Russia" retail stores in China by early 2026.

To ensure a stable supply of Russian goods, the Russian Export Center (REC) opened the first "Made in Russia" distribution center in Suifenhe, Heilongjiang Province, northeast China. Since the beginning of 2024, the REC has already held "Made in Russia" festivals and fairs in cities such as Shenyang, Dalian, Harbin, Chengdu, and Beijing.

As cooperation between China and Russia deepens in areas such as economics and trade, agriculture, and science and technology, the CIIE has become the "best testing ground" for Russian companies, allowing them to explore the Chinese market, find partners, and test products. Through this platform, more and more Russian small and medium-sized enterprises are gaining the opportunity to directly interact with Chinese distributors, retailers, and end consumers, transitioning from "exhibition participation" to "market entry."

Going forward, Made in Russia will continue to use the CIIE platform as a bridge to promote more high-quality, environmentally friendly, and innovative Russian products to the Chinese market. This is not only a practical result of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, but also a shared vision between China and Russia to jointly create a new ecosystem of "healthy, safe, and sustainable consumption."

Based on mutual trust and mutually beneficial cooperation, the connection between "Made in Russia" and the Chinese market will undoubtedly become even closer and deeper. More and more Chinese consumers experience Russia's sincerity and high quality through these products. Russian products, which meet the tastes and needs of Chinese consumers, are becoming increasingly popular and well-known in China.

UNITED NATIONS, November 18 (Xinhua) — UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday called for regional unity in the fight against terrorism in West Africa and the Sahel.

The security situation in West Africa and the Sahel is becoming increasingly critical every day, he said at a Security Council meeting dedicated to strengthening peace in West Africa.

This regional crisis requires a regional response – unified, consistent and based on consensus, said A. Guterres, adding that now is the time for dialogue and cooperation among all countries to strengthen the security architecture and political cooperation in the region.

A. Guterres also warned about the lack of targeted financial resources to coordinate an adequate regional response to terrorism, as well as the lack of reliable financial support for humanitarian response plans in the region.

A consistent development strategy is also needed to address the root causes of terrorism, he noted.

Terrorists thrive where the social contract is broken, said Antonio Guterres, adding that when families are mired in poverty and youth lack access to education and employment, extremism gains ground. When governance fails, development is hampered, public services are ineffective, human rights are violated, communities are marginalized, and citizens no longer trust their institutions, terrorists find ways to exploit people's grievances, he noted.

“Healing these fault lines, investing in broad-based development, and turning despair into opportunity is our strongest defense against radicalization,” he said. –0–

UN, November 18 /Xinhua/ — Sanae Takaichi's remarks about Taiwan are extremely misguided and dangerous, China's Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Tsung, said Tuesday at the annual UN General Assembly debate on Security Council reform.

"They constitute gross interference in China's internal affairs and a serious violation of the one-China principle and the spirit of the Four Political Documents signed by China and Japan," he said.

"Such remarks challenge international justice, undermine the post-war international order, and trample on the fundamental principles of international relations, and are a clear retreat from Japan's commitment to peaceful development," the Chinese diplomat noted.

“Such a country has absolutely no right to claim a permanent seat on the Security Council,” he added. –0–

Beirut/Jerusalem, November 19 (Xinhua) — At least 13 people were killed and several others wounded on Tuesday evening in an Israeli airstrike on the Ain el-Hilweh refugee camp in the southern Lebanese city of Saida, the Lebanese Health Ministry said.

According to local television channel Al-Manar, the Israeli airstrike hit a densely populated area in Ain al-Hilweh.

The TV channel reported that while ambulances were transporting the injured to hospitals, Israeli warplanes continued to fly at low altitude over the camp.

The Israeli military, for its part, said the strike targeted militants “operating at a Hamas training base” in the Ain al-Hilweh area, adding that the site was used to plan and carry out attacks on Israeli troops.

“The IDF is conducting an operation against the Hamas presence in Lebanon and will continue to operate against Hamas terrorists wherever they operate,” the statement said. –0–
