Dar es Salaam, January 10 (Xinhua) — Tanzania and China have committed to aligning their development strategies to accelerate shared growth, according to a joint press communiqué released on Saturday.

The document was released following talks between the foreign ministers of Tanzania and China in Dar es Salaam. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited Tanzania from January 9 to 10, during which he met with his counterpart, Mahmud Thabit Kombo.

The ministers highly valued the traditional friendship between China and Tanzania, which is based on trust and mutual respect, the communique said.

They noted with satisfaction the fruitful achievements of China-Tanzania relations and friendly cooperation over the past six decades and pledged to practically implement the agreements reached by the heads of state to further elevate the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership to new heights.

China reiterated its full confidence in the ability of Tanzania's leadership and institutions to independently manage its domestic affairs, the communiqué stated. Tanzania, for its part, reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to upholding the one-China principle and reiterated its consistent position of recognizing that there is only one China in the world and respecting China's national unity and territorial integrity, emphasizing that any form of secession is unacceptable.

The two countries committed to aligning their development strategies, agreed to further expand bilateral investment and trade, and reaffirmed their commitment to further developing a fair and favorable business environment on both sides.

According to the communiqué, the two sides agreed to jointly hold events to mark the China-Africa Year of Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges, which has been declared to be in 2026, and to strengthen cooperation in areas such as culture, tourism, education, healthcare, sports, youth, as well as think tanks and media, to strengthen public support for China-Tanzania friendship.

As noted in the communiqué, both sides also welcomed the successful launch of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA) upgrade project, expressed their readiness to support its implementation, and announced that they are exploring the possibility of organizing a high-level meeting on the development of a prosperity belt along TAZARA in the near future. –0–

Tehran, January 10 (Xinhua) — The Iranian military vowed on Saturday to defend national interests, protect strategic infrastructure, and public property amid ongoing protests, and called on Iranians to unite to "thwart the enemy's plans," Iran's state broadcaster IRIB reported.

Dar es Salaam, January 10 (Xinhua) — China and Tanzania are friends with a shared destiny, and the friendship nurtured and fostered by elder leaders remains the two countries' most precious spiritual asset, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Saturday.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement during a meeting with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

S. Suluhu Hassan asked Wang Yi to convey New Year's greetings and best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping, and also thanked China for its significant support for Tanzania's development within the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FCAC).

The Tanzanian side firmly adheres to the one-China principle, the President emphasized, adding that Tanzania is willing to align its development plans with China, deepen practical cooperation, promote the revival of the Tanzania-Zambia railway and the construction of a regional prosperity belt, strengthen inter-party exchanges, expand people-to-people contacts, and promote economic growth, benefiting the peoples of the two countries.

S. Suluhu Hassan commended the four major global initiatives put forward by Xi Jinping, stating that Tanzania is willing to strengthen multilateral coordination with China and jointly promote a more equitable and rational global governance system.

For his part, the Chinese Foreign Minister conveyed Xi Jinping's warm greetings to S. Suluhu Hassan, noting that China and Tanzania are friends with a shared destiny. The friendship between the two countries was founded and nurtured by senior leaders, has withstood the test of a volatile international environment, and remains a most precious spiritual asset, he emphasized.

The two sides should jointly continue to develop this friendship and enrich it with new content for the era, the Chinese Foreign Minister stated, noting that China attaches great importance to relations between the two parties and the two countries.

He said China is willing to work with Tanzania to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen exchanges of experience in public administration, deepen practical cooperation, enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and promote the continuous development of the China-Tanzania comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

The Chinese Foreign Minister added that China highly appreciates Tanzania's firm adherence to the one-China principle and supports it in safeguarding its sovereignty, independence and national dignity, and pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions.

The Chinese diplomat emphasized that both sides should actively promote high-quality development of interstate cooperation and make the renovated Tanzania-Zambia railway an engine for regional development.

China supports Tanzania in playing a more active role in regional and international affairs, and is willing to work with Tanzania and other developing countries to be a force for peace, stability and progress in the world, Wang Yi concluded.

Aden, Yemen, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) — Yemen's Southern Transitional Council (STC) on Saturday dismissed reports of its dissolution as "fabricated and legally null," saying the claims were made under duress and without any legal authority.

According to a statement posted on social media platform X, the STC said its National Assembly, Advisory Council and General Secretariat held an emergency meeting in the southern port city of Aden, during which Saudi Arabia was accused of detaining the STC negotiating delegation in Riyadh and forcing it to issue a dissolution statement under duress.

The Council stated that the proposed dissolution came from an unauthorised party under duress and therefore had no legal or political force.

The STC said it remains "fully legitimate and operational," stressing that the body's mandate has come from the people of South Yemen since its establishment in 2017.

Calling for the immediate and unconditional release of its detained members, the council called on the UN and international partners to “respect the will of the people of South Yemen” and reject any political process that marginalizes their representatives.

The denial followed reports in Yemeni state media on January 9 that the STC delegation in Riyadh had announced the council's dissolution and the closure of all its offices within Yemen and abroad. On January 8, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen also announced that STC leader Aidarus al-Zubaidi had secretly left Yemen after failing to attend peace talks in Riyadh.
