On December 22, the Kenyan radio station Capital FM published an article by Stephen Ndegwa, executive director of the Kenyan think tank South-South Dialogue, titled "What China's Modernization Means for the Global South." The article notes that developed countries, while loudly calling for market opening, are secretly erecting trade barriers. In this context, China's modernization path, based on shared prosperity and global governance initiatives, offers the global South a unique and increasingly relevant development model.

Chinese modernization differs from the Western model, which was achieved through colonial expansion and external sources of capital accumulation. China focuses on domestic development, emphasizing social stability, poverty alleviation, and consistent planning and scientific management.

China calls on all countries to work together on the path to modernization, reflecting a profound understanding of the essence of contemporary development. Modern industrial potential relies on logistics corridors, digital platforms, and regional markets. China's concept of modernization emphasizes partnerships rather than hierarchical relationships and advocates for mutually beneficial cooperation rather than one-sided dependence.

Kenya's Mombasa-Nairobi railway is a prime example. It not only reduces travel times and logistics costs but also helps develop local personnel in railway operation and maintenance. Its value lies not only in the infrastructure itself but also in the creation of an integrated system linking ports, industrial zones, and regional trade.

The second example is industrial parks in Ethiopia. They are being created and developed thanks to Chinese investment and technical assistance. By building on the development of light industry, Ethiopia has been able to rise up the global value chain, moving beyond its role as a raw materials exporter.

The article points out that China is advocating for a new model of globalization, rather than rejecting it. China is investing in building manufacturing capacity in various regions and is continuously expanding South-South cooperation through technology transfer, training programs, and financial support for development.

In this increasingly fragmented world, China, with its vision of cooperation, inclusiveness and shared prosperity, represents an important countervailing force against protectionism and unilateralism.

Moscow, January 5 (Xinhua) — The international community cannot allow the United States to assert itself as "some sort of supreme judge" following the American military operation in Venezuela, said Vasily Nebenzya, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN.

"The United States cannot be allowed to assert itself as some sort of supreme judge, the sole authority to invade any country, determine the perpetrators, impose punishments, and execute them, regardless of the concepts of international jurisdiction, sovereignty, and non-interference," V. Nebenzya emphasized at a UN Security Council meeting devoted to the situation surrounding Venezuela.

According to a Russian diplomat, the goal of the US military operation in Venezuela is to establish control over Venezuela's resources.

“What is particularly striking is the unprecedented cynicism with which Washington did not even try to camouflage the true goals of its criminal operation: establishing unlimited control over Venezuela’s natural resources and asserting its hegemonic ambitions in Latin America,” the Permanent Representative noted.

He also said Washington's actions against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro were a harbinger of a return to an era of lawlessness and American military dominance.

“We strongly condemn the US act of armed aggression against Venezuela in violation of all international legal norms,” added V. Nebenzya. –0–

GUANGZHOU, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Li Qiang called for strengthening the advantages of innovation-driven development and boldly leading the reform and opening-up policies, striving to get the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) off to a good start.

Li Qiang made the announcement during an inspection tour of Guangdong Province in southern China from January 3 to 5.

In Shenzhen, the Premier of the State Council heard a report on the progress of the construction of the Shenzhen-Xianggang Scientific and Technological Innovation Cooperation Zone.

Noting that scientific and technological innovation is key to future victories, Li Qiang called for stronger support for innovative development through policy, funding, and human resources. He also emphasized the importance of leveraging the strengths of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to concentrate innovative resources and achieve new breakthroughs.

The head of the Chinese government pointed to the need to further develop and expand scenarios for the application of scientific and technological innovations, as well as accelerate the iteration and modernization of new technologies through their wider implementation.

Li Qiang called for making full use of advanced technologies and effectively utilizing key transportation corridors to better promote connectivity and coordinated development in the Greater Bay Area.

In Foshan, the Premier of the State Council stated that economic development and rising living standards are generating new consumer demand, and urged careful attention to these changes. He also emphasized the need to accelerate research and development of higher-quality products and foster a virtuous cycle in which demand stimulates supply, and supply, in turn, creates demand.

At the Foshan International Land Port, Li Qiang reviewed the development and operation of cross-border e-commerce and duty-free logistics. He emphasized the importance of expanding high-level openness, more closely integrating infrastructure connectivity with regulations and standards, and coordinating the planning and construction of major open cooperation platforms in scientific and technological innovation, industrial development, and trade in services.

The Chinese leader also called for further progress in digital and green trade, orderly expansion of the independent opening up of the service sector, active expansion of imports, and ensuring balanced development of imports and exports.

TEHRAN, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei on Monday said the United States should release Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and condemned Washington's "illegal" actions against Venezuela's sovereignty.

Speaking at a weekly press conference in Tehran, E. Baghaei accused the United States of kidnapping N. Maduro and his wife during a military operation in Venezuela, calling the move a violation of international law.

"The kidnapping of the country's president and his wife is nothing to be proud of," said E. Bagaí. "This is a completely illegal act, and, as officials and the people of Venezuela emphasize, their president must be released."

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman called on UN member states to respond to the flagrant violations of international law, warning that such behavior will not stop there.
