BEIJING, November 21 (Xinhua) — A presentation on "Hainan's Tourism Opportunities for the Russian Market" was held Thursday in the tropical resort of Sanya, Hainan Province, South China, to establish an effective platform for international cooperation to develop Sanya's inbound tourism market, the Sanya Daily newspaper reported.

The event, dedicated to the development of the Russian market and cooperation in tourism products, was attended by more than 140 representatives of travel agencies and relevant enterprises from Russia and Hainan, who engaged in an in-depth exchange of views on topics such as tourist route planning, hotel accommodation, expansion of air routes, and the development of multi-purpose tourism products.

Hou Jianping, chairwoman of the travel agency Eden Travel, noted that thanks to China's trial introduction of a visa-free regime for Russian citizens holding regular passports, as well as the launch of direct flights between 11 Russian cities and Sanya, the flow of tourists from Russia to this resort is expected to exceed the historical record of 500,000 people this year.

"Sanya is not only a tourist destination but also an important gateway to China," said Andrey Vershinin, founder of Sletat.ru, adding that the event allowed more representatives of Russian travel agencies to personally experience Sanya's tourism resources. Furthermore, it attracted more tourists to this amazing city, thereby contributing to the company's revenue growth.

Wu Xiaolin, head of the Sanya Tourism Development Administration, noted that Russia is one of the key sources of foreign tourists for Sanya. In the first ten months of this year, foreign tourists visited the city more than 810,000 times.

According to her, starting this year, Sanya's tourism market has been actively targeting the Russian-speaking population, which can be seen in both local advertising campaigns and tourism presentations abroad. Furthermore, city authorities are holding various cultural and tourism events, catering to the preferences of tourists from Russian-speaking countries.

The event was jointly organized by the Sanya Tourism Development Authority and Eden Travel. -0-

Commentary: S. Takaichi's dangerous provocations expose right-wing revisionism and resurgent militarism in Japan

Tokyo, November 21 (Xinhua) — Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has once again exposed a dangerous pathology: historical revisionism and resurgent militarism.

With its blatantly false and provocative statements about China's Taiwan, and its threats to use force under the false pretext of a so-called "survival-threatening situation," it is dragging Japan down a dangerous path of confrontation that it can neither justify nor withstand.

Takaichi's bellicose rhetoric is not an isolated misjudgment. It is a manifestation of deep-rooted far-right thinking that continues to idealize Japan's militaristic past. Her words reflect ingrained arrogance, a fundamental misunderstanding of China, and an unwillingness to acknowledge the realities of contemporary Asia.

For decades, Japanese right-wing politicians have remained captive to a century-old worldview. They are unable—or unwilling—to transcend the thinking that once fueled Japanese aggression. Their perception of China is shaped not by facts or current realities, but by nostalgia for imperialist ambitions, denial of wartime crimes, and disregard for the commitments Japan made when normalizing relations with China.

They ignore the opportunities that China's peaceful development brings and continue to cling to the toxic fantasy of containing China's development.

In their political calculations, creating a so-called "China threat" is a tried-and-true tactic: a tool for stoking domestic fear, justifying the violation of defense restrictions, and reviving the militarism that once brought immeasurable suffering to China and other Asian countries. Takaichi's reckless reference to "survival-threatening situations" fits perfectly into this scenario.

The Taiwan issue is a red line that must not be crossed and the political foundation of Sino-Japanese relations. As Japan's leader, Takaichi has failed to take responsibility for upholding the commitments made by her predecessors and has sought to violate them for personal political gain.

S. Takaichi has long maintained inappropriate contacts with separatists advocating for Taiwan "independence." She also recently initiated the awarding of a medal to someone who openly promotes Taiwan "independence." This move raises serious questions about whether Japan is intentionally encouraging such forces.

Its intervention in the Taiwan issue once again exposes the historical revisionism that drives Japan's right-wing forces. It demonstrates that they remain unwilling to abandon the illusion of reviving their militaristic past and reasserting influence over Taiwan.

S. Takaichi should focus her efforts on studying history, revising the four political documents defining Sino-Japanese relations, and mastering the skills of peaceful coexistence with neighboring countries. Her dangerous play of inflating the "Taiwan emergency" as a "Japanese emergency" is nothing more than playing with fire.

If it continues down this erroneous path, it will bear full responsibility for the consequences. Any provocative actions will inevitably be met with harsh and decisive countermeasures from China.

BEIJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) — China has made historic achievements in river conservation and management in recent years, according to an analysis released Friday.

The report, titled “River Governance for National Prosperity and Public Welfare – A Study on Water Strategy in the New Era,” was jointly released by the National Research Center of the Xinhua News Agency and the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research under the Ministry of Water Resources.

China has significantly strengthened measures to combat floods, ensure drinking water, food security and environmental safety, thereby laying a more solid foundation for high-quality socio-economic development, the report says.

The share of economic losses associated with floods in relation to GDP decreased in China from 0.49 percent in 2005-2014 to 0.23 percent in 2015-2024.

Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, despite the country's GDP nearly doubling, total water consumption has remained virtually unchanged at under 610 billion cubic meters. The water intensity ratio of GDP and industrial production (water consumption per 10,000 yuan of GDP and industrial production) has decreased by 52 percent and 63 percent, respectively.

China, with only 6 percent of the world's fresh water resources, feeds almost 20 percent of the planet's population, and its share of the total global economy is more than 18 percent.

At the same time, the country has managed to significantly improve the condition of rivers and lakes. One example: by the end of September 2025, the groundwater level in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region had risen by 8.46 meters compared to 2018, the report states. -0-

Guangzhou, November 21 (Xinhua) — In accordance with agreements and understandings between the armed forces of China and Vietnam, naval detachments from the two countries conducted the 39th joint patrol in the waters of Beibu Gulf from November 19 to 20.

During the patrol, the flotilla, consisting of two ships on each side, monitored maritime and air security in Beibu Gulf, exchanged information on courses, speeds and hydrometeorological conditions, and enhanced command synergy and coherence.

Participants also conducted a joint search and rescue exercise, simulating a situation in which one fishing vessel from each side was in distress in Beibu Bay. The exercise effectively demonstrated their emergency management and response capabilities in challenging conditions.

Since the signing of the Joint Patrol Agreement in 2005, the Sino-Vietnamese joint patrol in Beibu Gulf has served as a stable platform for communication, helping both sides deepen cooperation and strengthen strategic mutual trust. -0-

Beijing, November 21 (Xinhua) — Almaty has officially joined the World Tourism Alliance (WTA), receiving full membership status, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in China announced on its WeChat social media account.

The Alliance membership certificate was officially presented to the city of Almaty during the WTA-Xianghu Dialogue 2025, which took place from November 18 to 21 in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province in eastern China.

Membership in this international non-governmental organization gives Almaty access to analytical data, educational resources, and global partnership projects, the embassy's account quoted a statement from the Almaty city administration.

The WTA is one of the largest international non-governmental organizations in the tourism sector, established in 2017 at the initiative of China. Currently, the organization has 259 members from 45 countries and regions, bringing together leading tourism companies, industry associations, research institutions, media outlets, and prominent tourism figures on a single platform.

Under the slogan “Tourism makes the world and life more beautiful,” the WTA operates with the primary goal of promoting peace, development and poverty reduction through tourism by providing its members with platforms for dialogue and cooperation, as well as effective and accessible media and information platforms. -0-

BEIJING, November 21 (Xinhua) — China is willing to share its wisdom and experience in river management with the rest of the world, opening up paths and providing models for the healthy development of water resources on the planet, according to an analytical report released Friday.

The report, titled “River Governance for National Prosperity and Public Welfare – A Study on Water Strategy in the New Era,” was jointly released by the National Research Center of the Xinhua News Agency and the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research under the Ministry of Water Resources.

The report estimates that the number of urban populations experiencing water stress on Earth will increase from 930 million in 2016 to 1.7-2.4 billion by 2050. As climate change accelerates, global water security is under increasing pressure, and river management is becoming increasingly challenging.

In recent years, China has accumulated considerable experience in water resources management through large-scale projects, innovative methods and social management, the document says.

China organized online and offline training sessions for nearly 4,000 water resources specialists and government officials from 112 countries. Five overseas technology transfer and capacity-building centers were established in Pakistan, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Serbia, and Senegal.

Furthermore, extensive cooperation was established with UN agencies in the field of water resources; the country shared its scientific research achievements and joined efforts with other countries and regions of the world to address growing water resource challenges.

China is willing to make new contributions to improving global water governance and ensuring the achievement of water-related goals under the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, thereby promoting the world's new vision of harmony between people and water, the report said. -0-
