SHANGHAI, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) — A Chinese-made humanoid robot, Android A2, entered the Guinness Book of World Records this month by running 106,286 kilometers (64,286 miles) without stopping.

Android A2, developed by Shanghai-based Agibot, set out from Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, East China, on the night of November 10th and reached its destination, the Bund, in Shanghai, early in the morning of November 13th.

Throughout the entire journey, the robot, equipped with the Agibot quick-change battery system, remained on at all times, according to a certificate issued Thursday.

“Walking from Suzhou to Shanghai is a challenging task for humans, but it’s within the robot’s capabilities,” said Agibot Vice President Wang Chuan.

The achievement of Android A2 demonstrates the maturity of the robot's hardware, its "cerebellar" balance algorithms, and its endurance, laying a solid foundation for large-scale commercial deployment, the entrepreneur added.

The Android A2 robot is equipped with dual GPS, lidar, and infrared sensors designed for precise positioning during the day and night in challenging situations such as traffic lights, narrow passages, and crowded sidewalks.

The robot navigated paved roads, cobbled sidewalks, bridges, tactile surfaces, and ramps, all while strictly adhering to traffic regulations.

Speaking to Xinhua upon its arrival, the robot described its long trek as "an unforgettable experience in its life," jokingly suggesting that it "might need new shoes."

In April of this year, the Tien Kung Ultra robot, created by the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, completed a 21-kilometer half-marathon in 2 hours and 40 minutes. -0-

NANJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) — A report was released in Nanjing, east China's Jiangsu Province, on Friday, containing a detailed analysis of the economic development situation of China's counties and a theory of county-level economics in the new era.

The report, titled "County Economy in the New Era," was presented by the Xinhua Institute, a national-level think tank affiliated with the Xinhua News Agency, at the Belt and Road International Think Tank Cooperation Forum held in Nanjing.

The document consists of 5 chapters, which examine in detail the strategic significance of active development of the county-level economy, the essence of the county economy in the new era, as well as the dynamic practices associated with this economy, its distinctive features and understanding of it.

Counties in China today encompass both urban and rural areas, serving as a central hub connecting higher and lower administrative levels, ensuring coordination across various sectors, and linking cities and rural areas. They constitute the basic unit for both economic development and social governance in China, the report notes.

The county economy of the new era has acquired the character of an original and fairly comprehensive knowledge system, based on China's wealth of experience in economic development at the county level, the report states. According to the document, this primarily concerns the integration of urban and rural areas and the development of the latter, with the former playing a leading role, the creation of specific industrial clusters, and the expansion of county autonomy in decision-making to ensure the viability of reforms at the grassroots level.

The county-level economy of the new era goes beyond the unipolar thinking inherent in traditional growth pole theory and creates “distributed growth poles,” a network of “capillary vessels” to maintain economic dynamism, the report’s authors point out, noting that this approach promotes high-quality development and lasting social stability in the country, becoming a historic move beyond the Western “core-periphery” theory.

The New Era County Economy charts an alternative path that serves as a key to actively seeking solutions for urban-rural integration; it offers a Chinese model that balances efficiency and fairness and combines tradition with innovation; and it contributes to the creation of a more balanced and sustainable development configuration for countries in the Global South, the report states. -0-

BEIJING, November 21 (Xinhua) — If Japan tries to return to its old militaristic path, break its promise of peaceful development, and undermine the post-war international order, it will ultimately end in failure, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a regular press conference on Friday.

According to media reports, Japan exported domestically produced Patriot air defense missile systems to the United States for the first time under relaxed restrictions. Meanwhile, the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (LDP) has begun discussions on revising its three security documents, including the three non-nuclear principles, which include the renunciation of nuclear weapons possession, the renunciation of nuclear weapons production, and a ban on their import into the country.

Commenting on these reports, Mao Ning noted that after victory in World War II, international legal documents such as the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Declaration, and the Japanese Instrument of Surrender clearly stipulated Japan's obligations as a losing country, including complete demilitarization and a ban on maintaining industries that could contribute to rearmament.

Nevertheless, Japan has been steadily increasing its military power in recent years. Its defense budget has increased for the 13th consecutive year. Furthermore, the country has passed a new security bill lifting the ban on collective self-defense, Mao Ning stated, adding that Japan is steadily easing restrictions on arms exports and has even begun exporting weapons of mass destruction.

While declaring its desire to create a world free of nuclear weapons, Japan has attempted to revise the Three Principles for Nuclear Abolition, indicating its intention to strengthen rearmament.

If Japan wishes to return to its old militaristic path, break its promise of peaceful development, and undermine the post-war international order, the Chinese people and the international community will not allow it. Such attempts will ultimately end in failure, the Chinese diplomat concluded.

Beijing, November 21 (Xinhua) — If Japan wants to develop strategic and mutually beneficial relations with China, it should retract its erroneous statements, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a regular press conference on Friday.

"Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's public, erroneous statements regarding Taiwan, which imply the possibility of armed intervention in the Taiwan Strait, have provoked outrage and condemnation from the Chinese people," she said, reiterating China's strong protest against such rhetoric.

If Japan sincerely wants to develop strategic, mutually beneficial relations with China and build constructive and stable ties with China that meet the requirements of the new era, it must adhere to the spirit of the four Sino-Japanese political documents, fulfill its political commitments, immediately withdraw its erroneous statements, and fulfill its commitments to China through practical actions, the Chinese diplomat concluded.

Tokyo, November 21 (Xinhua) — Japan's Nihon Hidanke Association, an association representing atomic bomb victims, issued a statement on Thursday sharply condemning Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's attempt to revise the country's three non-nuclear principles, local media reported.

In 2024, the organization was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to create a nuclear-weapon-free world. The association's statement stated that it "strongly protests the reversal" of Japan's long-standing position of refraining from possessing, producing, or importing nuclear weapons into Japan, as well as the current administration's revision of non-nuclear principles, Kyodo News reports.

The organization stressed that measures to eliminate nuclear weapons must not be delayed, adding that the survivors of the atomic bombing "cannot allow nuclear weapons to be brought into Japan or the country to become a base for nuclear war or a target for nuclear attacks."

The group sent a statement to S. Takaichi calling on the government to comply with the three non-nuclear principles and enshrine them in legislation.

The Three Principles of Non-Nuclear Policy were first proclaimed in the Japanese Diet in 1967 by then-Prime Minister Eisaku Sato and were considered a national credo. The National Security Strategy, one of three security documents approved by the government in 2022, states: "The basic policy of adhering to the Three Principles will remain unchanged in the future."

However, Kyodo News recently reported, citing government sources, that S. Takaichi is considering revising the ban on the import of nuclear weapons into Japan, which is causing serious concern in the country. –0–
