Madrid, November 28 (Xinhua) — International tourist arrivals will continue to grow in 2025, according to the latest data released Thursday by the Madrid-based United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

According to the UNWTO's quarterly World Tourism Barometer report, more than 1.1 billion people travelled internationally in the first nine months of the year, approximately 5 percent more than in the same period in 2024.

Between January and September, the Asia-Pacific region saw an 8% increase in tourist arrivals. It continues to recover from the pandemic, although figures remain approximately 10% below 2019 levels.

International arrivals to Africa grew significantly, with North Africa up 11 percent and Sub-Saharan Africa up 10 percent. Europe remains the world's most popular tourist destination, with 625 million arrivals in the first nine months of 2025, up 4 percent from the previous year.

North America saw a slight decline of about 1 percent. South America grew by 9 percent, and Central America by 3 percent, thanks to strong demand on several fronts.

"In 2025, international tourism will continue to demonstrate robust growth in both international arrivals and, importantly, revenues, despite high tourism inflation and geopolitical tensions. Africa and Europe have particularly excelled," UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili stated in a press note.

The organization forecasts growth of 3-5 percent in 2025, noting that geopolitical uncertainty and high costs remain potential risks to the sector's prospects. –0–

BEIJING, November 28 (Xinhua) — The Chinese mainland will always care about the well-being of Taiwan compatriots, actively help them solve their problems, and bring them more benefits through concrete actions, said Song Tao, director of the Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee for Work with Taiwan and the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, during a meeting with a Taiwan fisheries delegation led by Lin Bingkun, chairman of the Non-Party Members Solidarity Union.

Song Tao said that the Chinese mainland is willing to provide Taiwan's lower classes, including those engaged in agriculture and fisheries, with better development opportunities and share more of the fruits of development with them.

Mainland China will under no circumstances tolerate Japan's attempts to interfere in Taiwan-related affairs or China's internal affairs, he stressed, adding that any such attempts will be resolutely repulsed.

According to Song Tao, any external intervention from Japan or other countries is doomed to failure.

Lin Bingkun, in turn, emphasized that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China and are one family. He called on the fisheries and other industries to expand exchanges and cooperation for the benefit of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
