Nanning, November 30 (Xinhua) — As of Saturday, a total of 5 million standard containers (TEU) of cargo had been transported along the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, a key logistics route connecting western China with global markets, according to the Nanning branch of China Railways (CR).

This corridor connects the Silk Road Economic Belt in the north and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road in the south, seamlessly linking with the Yangtze River Economic Belt, defining its key strategic role in the architecture of coordinated regional development. Since its pilot launch in 2017, it has become a strategic route linking China's hinterland with markets in ASEAN countries and beyond.

As of Saturday, cargo turnover along the aforementioned trade corridor reached 1.31 million TEU this year, an increase of more than 50 percent year-on-year.

“Although it took more than four years to deliver the first million TEUs, the fifth million was reached in just 240 days, clearly demonstrating the dynamic vitality and expanding reach of the corridor,” said Zhong Chaowen of Guangxi Yanhai Railway Co., Ltd.

According to the data, since the beginning of 2025, exports along this corridor have mainly included chemical products, mechanical parts, and new energy vehicles, while imports have been represented mainly by bauxite, coal, and grain.

In the first three quarters of this year, imports and exports through this corridor in western China totaled 611.5 billion yuan (approximately $86.4 billion), up 19.3 percent year-on-year. This corridor contributed to the overall growth of foreign trade in the country's western regions by 3.4 percentage points.

CHONGQING, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) — A freight train departed from southwest China's Chongqing for Hungary's capital, Budapest, on Sunday, marking the launch of a new fixed-schedule China-Europe service.

The train, loaded with car and motorcycle parts, electronics, and other consumer goods, is expected to arrive in Budapest, a major transportation hub serving Central and Eastern Europe, in 11 days. The train will cross the border at Alashankou in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and travel through Kazakhstan, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia before arriving in Hungary.

The new route represents Chongqing's second fixed-schedule freight rail link on the China-Europe international rail freight service, following the route linking the city with Duisburg, Germany.

Compared to traditional freight trains, fixed-schedule trains operate according to a schedule and along established routes, significantly improving efficiency and reliability. According to the Chengdu branch of China Railways (CR), the Chongqing-Budapest route will reduce travel time by approximately 30 percent.

“The fixed-schedule service provides more stable predictability in production planning, logistics trade, and capital turnover, and offers more efficient cross-border logistics for local enterprises in industries such as electronics, automobiles, and equipment manufacturing,” said Yang Lianchen of the Chongqing Railway Logistics Center under the aforementioned branch.

The total number of China-Europe train departures has reached 120,000 since the launch of this logistics system, and the total value of transported cargo has exceeded US$490 billion, according to data released by the Chinese Railways recently.

Currently, China-Europe freight train services cover 232 cities in 26 European countries and connect more than 100 cities in 11 Asian countries, injecting new impetus into promoting high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and achieving a higher level of opening-up. -0-

BEIJING, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) — China held its first national examination for civil service entry in 2026 on Sunday after raising the age limit from 35.

This year, more than 3.7 million people took the exam to obtain positions in the country's central government agencies and their branches. This means that, on average, approximately 98 applicants competed for each vacancy.

According to authorities, approximately 70 percent of these vacancies are reserved for university graduates.

China has raised the age limit for the exam to 38, a move that has been hailed as a welcome move to break the 35-year barrier that previously existed in the labour market.

For graduates of master's and doctoral programs, the age limit has been further increased to 43 years, authorities announced. -0-

Astana, November 30 (Xinhua) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan protested the latest attack on Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) facilities in the Novorossiysk seaport. This was announced on Sunday by Foreign Ministry spokesman Aibek Smadiyarov.

According to him, this incident is the third targeted attack on the critical civilian infrastructure of the international consortium, the functioning of which is guaranteed by international law.

"Kazakhstan supports the sustainability and uninterrupted supply of energy resources. The Caspian Pipeline Consortium plays a significant role in maintaining the stability of the global energy system. We view this incident as damaging to bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Ukraine, and we expect the Ukrainian side to take measures to prevent similar incidents," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

According to CPC, at 6:06 a.m. Saturday, Astana time, the single-point mooring (SPM) at the marine terminal was damaged by an attack from unmanned boats. Following orders from the Novorossiysk seaport captain, loading operations were suspended and the tankers were withdrawn from the waters. There were no injuries.

At the time of the explosion, emergency protection systems automatically shut off the relevant pipelines. According to preliminary data, there was no oil leak into the Black Sea. Specialists are collecting seawater samples and conducting environmental monitoring. The consortium stated that further operation of VPU-2 is impossible; unloading operations will resume as scheduled once the threat from unmanned aerial vehicles has ceased.

The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) noted that this is the third incident involving damage to the consortium's infrastructure. On Tuesday, the office of the marine terminal near Novorossiysk was damaged following a nighttime drone attack, in which the administrative building was struck by the drone's warhead. Personnel were promptly evacuated, and cargo operations were temporarily suspended.

Beijing, November 30 (Xinhua) — On November 24, the Arshan highway checkpoint, located in Khingan Province (Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, north China) on the border between China and Mongolia, became operational year-round. Previously, it was only open eight months a year, according to the Chinese daily newspaper Neimenggu Ribao.

Thus, Arshan became the 4th international land checkpoint in Inner Mongolia, operating year-round, which took the external openness of the Khingan aimag to a new level.

Let us recall that the Arshan checkpoint is one of the most convenient checkpoints connecting China with Mongolia, as well as an important window and the front line of the openness of the Khingan aimag in the northern direction.

In recent years, the Khingan aimag has allocated a total of more than 700 million yuan (approximately US$98.87 million) to accelerate the improvement of the Arshan checkpoint infrastructure, resulting in the implementation of a number of key projects related to the construction of a bridge across the border river, a logistics park, and facilities for joint inspection of passengers and cargo.

A mutual trade zone between residents of the border regions of China and Mongolia was launched at the Arshan checkpoint. Local authorities have engaged over 4,600 residents of these areas in cross-border trade. The import of 14 categories of goods from abroad is ongoing. Furthermore, a "border trade and on-site processing" model has been piloted, facilitating the development of the processing industry in the border regions, employment opportunities, and income growth.

At the same time, the level of connectivity between the checkpoints of China and Mongolia has significantly increased, leading to the launch of cross-border regular automobile passenger transportation to Mongolia through the Arshan checkpoint.

Taking advantage of the opportunities created by the transition of the Arshan checkpoint to a year-round operation, Aimag Khingan plans to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Mongolia, actively develop cross-border tourism and border trade, simplify customs clearance procedures, and make new and even more significant contributions to the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, the construction of the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor, and the promotion of high-quality economic development in Inner Mongolia and its high-level openness to the outside world.

Pyongyang, November 30 (Xinhua) — The Korean People's Army (KPA) Air Force will receive new strategic military assets and be assigned a new important responsibility, Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of State Affairs of the DPRK, announced on Friday, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Sunday.

Kim Jong-un attended celebrations held on Friday to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the KPA Air Force, the statement said.

The DPRK Supreme Leader noted that the WPK and the country's expectations for the Air Force, which "will play an important role in implementing measures to deter a nuclear war," are very high, adding that the Air Force "must resolutely repel and control all kinds of espionage activities and possible military provocations by enemies aiming to encroach on the DPRK's sovereign airspace with overwhelming spiritual strength and offensive spirit."

According to KCNA, the North Korean leader also watched the demonstration flight and presented the North Korean Air Force with the Order of Kim Jong Il, the highest award in the DPRK. –0–

Bishkek, November 30 (Xinhua) — Early elections to Kyrgyzstan's parliament (Zhogorku Kenesh) began on Sunday, with 90 seats to be elected.

As reported on Sunday by the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kyrgyzstan, a total of 2,492 polling stations have begun operating across the country, as well as 27 remote voting stations and 100 polling stations abroad.

460 candidates are participating in the early parliamentary elections. Thirty multi-member constituencies have been established for the parliamentary elections, with three deputies elected in each constituency using the majoritarian system. In each constituency, no more than two of the three seats may be held by members of the same gender. At least 30 parliamentary seats are held by members of the same gender.

The election process is being monitored by citizen and international observers. A total of 788 international observers from central electoral bodies, embassies of various countries, as well as international organizations and parliamentary associations, are registered.

Voting will run from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Sunday local time.

As a reminder, on September 25, members of the Kyrgyz Parliament voted to dissolve themselves. The proposal was put forward by an initiative group of 32 members. As explained, there is a short period of time between two important political events—the presidential and parliamentary elections—so, in order to strengthen the political system and stability in the country, the initiative group proposed that parliament voluntarily resign.

On September 30, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov signed a decree scheduling early parliamentary elections for November 30, 2025.

The Zhogorku Kenesh (Federal Assembly) is Kyrgyzstan's unicameral parliament, consisting of 90 members elected for five-year terms. According to the initial schedule, new parliamentary elections were scheduled for November 2026, but presidential elections are now scheduled for just two months later, in January 2027.
