Changchun, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) — Chinese auto giant FAW Group on Tuesday reported sales of more than 420,000 vehicles of its iconic Hongqi brand in the first 11 months of 2025, up 9.2 percent year-on-year.

In November alone, Hongqi's sales volume exceeded 40,000 units, maintaining a steady growth trend. Meanwhile, the new energy vehicle (NEV) segment of the same brand recorded a 60.8 percent year-on-year increase, while sales of Hongqi's luxury sub-brand, Golden Sunflower, once again exceeded 100 units in the month.

The Hongqi auto brand, or Red Flag in Russian, was founded in 1958 as one of China's shining achievements during the First Five-Year Plan (1953-1957).

The automaker is committed to stepping up its efforts to build Hongqi into a world-class auto brand, and to this end, it plans to expand its presence to more than 100 countries and regions in the next five years, building a global network of 1,000 sales and service points, and supplying a wider range of NEV, energy-efficient, and premium vehicle models to the global market. -0-

BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) — China has seen a sharp increase in the number of small giant enterprises in recent years, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

According to the agency, during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), the number of “small giants” – small and medium-sized enterprises with a high degree of specialization and technological leadership in their field, great innovative potential and a clear competitive advantage in the market – increased from just over 5,000 to 17,600. In 2024 alone, each of these companies, distinguished by an increased focus on innovation, invested an average of more than 30 million yuan (approximately 4.24 million US dollars) in R&D.

These firms, often considered niche market leaders and specialist suppliers, play a vital role in ensuring greater resilience and competitiveness in supply chains.

More than 60 percent of these "small giants" operate in basic industries, and nearly 80 percent operate in key production chains. Ninety percent of companies in this category supply directly to at least three large domestic or international enterprises. There are nearly 6,000 of these companies in so-called emerging industries, such as quantum technologies.

This situation, as analysts note, allows us to conclude that specialized small and medium-sized enterprises, which view innovation as the basis of competitiveness, have become a key driving force behind China's economic growth.

Although they account for only 3.5 percent of China's total industrial enterprises with annual operating income of at least RMB 20 million, they account for 9.6 percent of total operating revenue and 13.7 percent of total profit.

Chinese Minister of Industry and Information Technology Li Lecheng pledged to further strengthen the status of enterprises as innovative actors, enhance the role of high-quality companies as pillars of production chains, and improve the business climate.

According to the minister, seamlessly linking innovation and production chains, leveraging financial leverage, and expanding targeted financial support will be priorities of government policy. -0-

HANGZHOU, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) — The annual container throughput of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in east China's Zhejiang Province exceeded 40 million TEUs for the first time on Tuesday.

According to the Zhejiang Seaport Group, the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan has ranked first in the world in annual cargo throughput for 16 consecutive years. Despite its relatively late entry into container shipping, its volume is growing rapidly.

Statistics show that the port's annual container throughput surpassed 20 million TEU for the first time in 2015 and exceeded 40 million TEU for the first time this year. This figure increased from 10 million to 20 million TEU in seven years, from 20 million to 30 million TEU in six years, and from 30 million to 40 million TEU in just four years. The port's ability to serve national strategies, regional development, and clients worldwide is continually expanding.

Currently, the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan operates over 300 container shipping routes, connecting over 600 ports in over 200 countries and regions. It has over 210 berths for vessels over 10,000 tons, including over 135 berths for vessels of 50,000 tons and above, making it one of the world's leading ports with the largest number of large and ultra-large deepwater berths.

In recent years, Zhejiang Province, an economically developed province on China's east coast, has unveiled a series of policies aimed at enhancing the competitiveness and global influence of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port. -0-

Tegucigalpa, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) — Honduras' National Electoral Council said Monday that the presidential vote remains virtually tied, following preliminary vote counts conducted peacefully a day after the country's general elections.

According to the latest data from the preliminary election results system, after 57.03 percent of the votes have been counted, National Party candidate Nasri Asfoura has 749,022 votes (39.91 percent).

His main rival, Salvador Nasralla of the Liberal Party of Honduras, follows him with a narrow lead of 515 votes, with 748,507 votes (39.89%).

National Electoral Council President Ana Paola Hall described the situation as a "tie" and called on citizens to remain patient while the voting results protocols are processed.

More than six million Hondurans registered to vote in the elections to choose a new president, 298 mayors, 128 members of the National Congress, and other officials.

Honduras holds elections without a runoff, meaning the candidate with the most votes wins the presidency.

Paris, December 2 (Xinhua) — Global GDP growth is projected to slow from 3.2 percent in 2025 to 2.9 percent in 2026, in line with the September forecast, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Economic Outlook released Tuesday.

Supportive macroeconomic policies, improving financial conditions fueled by optimism about the potential impact of new technologies, and growing investment and trade linked to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) have combined to strengthen global demand, according to the review.

Further increases or abrupt changes in trade barriers would weaken growth, increase policy uncertainty and lead to serious disruptions to global supply chains, the report said.

It also adds that assets with high valuations based on overly optimistic expectations of AI development could be subject to sudden corrections, while fiscal vulnerability in many countries could hinder economic growth.

SEOUL, December 2 (Xinhua) — Republic of Korea (ROK) President Lee Jae-myung on Tuesday proposed re-establishing communication channels with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), according to multiple local media reports.

He made the statement at an event of the Consultative Council for the Peaceful and Democratic Unification of the Korean Peninsula.

Lee Jae-myung stressed that he will strive for a denuclearized status for the Korean Peninsula and an end to the state of war on the peninsula.

The Korean Peninsula remains formally in a state of war, as the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an armistice rather than a peace treaty. –0–

SHANGHAI, December 2 (Xinhua) — Imagine watching a car race on your computer screen and feeling as if the cars were jumping into your room, remaining clearly visible even as you move from side to side in front of your desk. What's most intriguing: this effect is possible without the use of 3D glasses or special wearable devices.

Now this immersive experience is one step closer to reality thanks to new display technology developed by Chinese researchers.

The system, dubbed EyeReal, uses artificial intelligence (AI) to create 3D images without glasses on desktop-sized monitors, thereby overcoming a problem that has plagued consumer electronics for decades. This is described in a recent article published in the journal Nature.

According to the article, this display offers a 100-degree field of view with Full HD resolution. This allows the viewer to move around while watching while maintaining the clarity of 3D effects, something that previous technologies could only achieve on displays that were much smaller or had limited viewing angles.

A team of researchers from the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Lab and Fudan University, two institutions located in the eastern Chinese metropolis of Shanghai, have applied an AI-based approach that utilizes eye tracking and dynamic image optimization using a minimalist three-layer LCD panel structure. This development has potential for future consumer use cases.

The study found that the display offers a high resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of over 50 frames per second, making the image smooth and natural.

“Our device has potential applications in areas such as education, 3D design, and virtual reality,” the researchers said. -0-

URUMQI, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) — The Kashgar section of the free trade zone (FTZ) in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region recently completed its first export leasing transaction through a bonded zone with special tax and customs status.

This deal was a key step for the Kashgar section of the FTZ in expanding the range of bonded services and enhancing trade convenience and liberalization, the FTZ administration noted.

As it turns out, the lessee was a Kyrgyz company. The 18-month lease included a batch of printers provided by a Kashgar-based company. They have already been delivered to Bishkek and safely handed over to the lessee. The entire transaction was deemed orderly and efficient.

Jiang Haitao, Deputy Director of the Kashgar Prefectural Commerce Department, noted that the bonded zone export leasing scheme not only opened an acceptable path for exploring new “bonded services plus” business models in the Xinjiang FTZ, but also offered businesses in Kyrgyzstan and other Central Asian countries more flexible options for using the necessary equipment.
