BEIJING, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) — China's civil aviation sector developed at a stable pace in 2025, with all key indicators showing strong growth, according to data released Tuesday at the China Civil Aviation Working Conference.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) announced that the sector's total turnover last year amounted to 164.08 billion tonne-kilometers, an increase of 10.5 percent year-on-year.

TOKYO, January 6 (Xinhua) — Several people were injured by a 6.4-magnitude earthquake that struck Shimane Prefecture in western Japan on Tuesday, local media reported.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the earthquake struck at 10:18 a.m. local time in eastern Shimane Prefecture. The hypocenter was located at a depth of 10 km.

The epicenter of the tremors was located at 35.3 degrees north latitude and 133.2 degrees east longitude. According to the JMA, two aftershocks, measuring 5.1 and 5.4, occurred in the same area at approximately 10:28 and 10:37 local time, respectively.

KUALA LUMPUR, January 6 (Xinhua) — Former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad was hospitalized after falling at his home on Tuesday morning, his spokesman said.

SEOUL, January 6 (Xinhua) — Police in the Republic of Korea (ROK) on Tuesday raided the office of the special prosecutor investigating impeached former President Yun Seok-yul, who is accused of attempted coup and other crimes, the Renhap News Agency reported.

The Special Investigative Team of the National Police Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan sent investigators to the office to seize materials related to allegations that the Ministry of Justice attempted to secure detention space in correctional facilities during the brief imposition of martial law in the country in December 2024.

Police said the current search was related to charges brought against the former head of the Justice Ministry's correctional service for carrying out important tasks in organizing the mutiny.

UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) — Venezuela's permanent representative to the United Nations, Samuel Moncada, on Monday asked the Security Council to take action following the U.S. air strike on his country over the weekend.

Venezuela urges the UN Security Council to fully assume its responsibility and act in accordance with the mandate entrusted to it by the UN Charter, said S. Moncada at an emergency meeting of the Security Council.

“In this regard, we ask that the government of the United States of America fully respect the immunity of President /of Venezuela/ Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, as well as their immediate release and safe return to Venezuela,” the Permanent Representative said.

SHENZHEN, January 6 (Xinhua) — By the end of 2025, the sub-provincial city of Shenzhen, in Guangdong Province, exported goods worth 6.87 billion yuan (approximately $981 million) via China-Europe rail freight routes, according to data released by the local customs service on Monday. This figure is a 40 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Another cargo train recently departed Shenzhen's Pinghunan National Logistics Hub, bound for Vorsino Station on the Moscow Railway. The train is carrying 565 tons of goods produced in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, including everyday items such as women's chevrolet boots, massage devices, and electronic gadgets that meet market demand in Russia.

As a reminder, Shenzhen was one of the first special economic zones established by the Chinese government after the announcement of reform and opening-up.
