Addis Ababa, December 7 (Xinhua) — African Union (AU) Commission Chairman Mahamoud Ali Yusuf on Sunday "strongly and unequivocally" condemned the attempted military coup in Benin.

Cotonou, December 7 (Xinhua) — Benin's armed forces have thwarted an attempted coup aimed at destabilizing the state and its institutions, Interior and Public Security Minister Alassane Seydou announced on Sunday.

Kigali, December 7 (Xinhua) — More than 800 citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have fled violence in eastern Rwanda to Rwanda since Wednesday, Fanuel Sindayiheba, head of Rusizi District in Rwanda's West Province, told Xinhua by telephone on Saturday.

GUIYANG, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) — Colorful Guizhou Airlines has launched a direct flight linking Guiyang, capital of southwest China's Guizhou Province, with Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam as part of China's expansion of air connectivity with ASEAN countries.

The direct Guiyang-Ho Chi Minh City flight began operating on December 6, according to the Guizhou Civil Aviation Corporation. Flight GY703 departed Guiyang at 10:50 PM Beijing time and arrived in Ho Chi Minh City at 1:30 AM local time. The return flight, GY704, departed at 2:30 AM local time and arrived in Guiyang at 7:10 AM Beijing time.

BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) — China's Ministry of Emergency Management said Sunday it has sent a task force to northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to assist rescue efforts after traffic accidents killed nine people and injured seven others.

The accidents occurred on Saturday around 10:00 PM on different sections of the expressway, 70 km from the city limits of Wusu in Tacheng County. Five large vehicles and seven smaller cars were involved in the accidents.

Local authorities said the accidents occurred amid sudden heavy fog and sub-zero overnight temperatures, which caused the road surface to become wet and slippery due to icing over a short period of time.
