Bucharest, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) — Ciprian Ciucu of Romania's National Liberal Party won the Bucharest general mayoral election on Sunday, securing the capital's top post.

According to real-time data from the Permanent Electoral Authority of Romania, C. Ciucu received 36.16% of the votes after the full counting of votes at all 1,289 polling stations.

More than 589,000 Bucharest residents cast their votes, with a turnout of 32.71% of registered voters.

BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) — The opening ceremony of the 6th Harbin Ice Harvesting Festival was held on the frozen surface of the Songhua River on Sunday, marking the start of preparations for a series of grand annual winter tourism projects.

BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) — From January to October 2025, the total number of freight train departures from Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, on China-Europe international freight train routes reached 5,063, an increase of 16.3 percent year-on-year, the Chinese newspaper Economic Daily reported, citing local government data.

Beijing, December 9 (Xinhua) — A truck with a TIR logo, loaded with goods worth 2.2 million yuan, recently passed through the Manzhouli Port of Entry and Exit (TIR) in North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on the China-Russia border. This is the 2,000th truck inspected and released by Manzhouli customs officials under the TIR system since the beginning of this year, according to a statement posted on the official website of the General Administration of Customs.

BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) — China's pilot free trade zones (FTZs) have achieved significant results in institutional innovation during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), according to the latest data from the Ministry of Commerce.

The 22 pilot FTZs established in various parts of China as a strategic step in promoting reform and opening up to the outside world have produced nearly 200 achievements in institutional innovation over a five-year period.

With the government actively encouraging bold exploration based on the specific conditions of different regions, the Zhejiang Pilot FTZ, for example, focused primarily on innovation in the commodity sector, while the FTZs in Jiangsu and Shandong provinces focused on innovation across the entire production chain of biopharmaceuticals and the marine economy, respectively.

Beijing, December 9 (Xinhua) — A court recently ruled on compensation claims filed by relatives of some of the passengers missing on Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, the Beijing Higher People's Court said in a statement released Monday.

The eight cases in which the above-mentioned ruling has been issued so far concern eight passengers on that flight. On December 5, the Chaoyang District People's Court in Beijing ordered the defendants to pay compensation to the plaintiffs in accordance with the Montreal Convention and relevant Chinese laws.

BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) — Attempts to achieve "Taiwan independence" are a split in China's territory, and supporting the aspirations for "Taiwan independence" is interference in China's internal affairs, which is a violation of both the country's constitution and international law, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in Beijing on Monday.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement during talks with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, during which the head of the Chinese foreign ministry discussed in detail both the historical realities and the legal basis of the Taiwan question.
