Beijing, December 15 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the strategic and fundamental importance of ideological and moral education for minors. He also called for joint efforts to create a favorable social environment for the healthy growth of minors.

Xi Jinping, who is also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the relevant statements while giving important instructions on the matter recently.

The Chinese leader called for improving the mechanism of joint education involving schools, families, and society to guide minors in developing high ideals, putting fundamental socialist values into practice, and developing positive moral qualities and behavioral habits.

As the Chinese President noted, it is necessary to cultivate a new generation of comprehensively developed young people with a solid moral foundation, developed intellectual abilities, robust health, aesthetic taste, and work skills, so that they can adequately take up the baton of socialist construction.

Xi Jinping's instructions were conveyed to participants at a working meeting on ideological and moral education of minors, which took place in Beijing on Monday.

Cai Qi, member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

Cai Qi emphasized the importance of strengthening family education, providing children with high-quality cultural products and services, and raising the level of internet literacy among minors.

He also called for accelerating the creation of a system of mental health services for minors, strengthening the protection of minors and preventing juvenile delinquency.

The meeting was chaired by Li Shulei. –0–

BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) — China congratulates José Antonio Casta on his election as the new president of Chile, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Monday.

According to media reports citing information from the Chilean electoral service on December 14, J. A. Cast won the second round of the presidential elections in Chile and became the country's new president.

Noting that Chile is the first South American country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, Guo Jiakun said at a regular departmental press conference that over the past 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Chile, bilateral ties have continuously developed in a positive direction, yielding fruitful results in various areas of cooperation.

Guo Jiakun noted that China is willing to work with the new Chilean government to further strengthen mutually beneficial and friendly cooperation in all areas and advance the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides to a new level, so as to bring even greater benefits to the peoples of the two countries. -0-

BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) — Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Jiang Bin on Monday called on the United States to reconsider its strategic perception of China, stop sending wrong signals to separatist forces seeking "Taiwan independence," and refrain from escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait.

Jiang Bin made the statement in response to a question from reporters about the updated version of the US National Security Strategy document, which states that the US does not support any unilateral actions aimed at changing the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.

The recently passed US National Defense Authorization Act by the US House of Representatives also attempts to intervene in Taiwan-related issues, as do the statements made earlier by the US Secretary of Defense.

"There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is part of China. This is an indisputable historical and legal fact, as well as the unchangeable status quo in the Taiwan Strait," said Jiang Bin.

He noted that the resolution of the Taiwan issue is an internal matter for China that does not allow any outside interference, and that any attempt to use Taiwan to contain China is doomed to failure. -0-

BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) — The Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee expressed firm support on Monday for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) authorities' legal ruling on the case of Li Zhiying.

The High Court of South Africa on Monday found Lee Zhiying, the instigator of the anti-China unrest in Hong Kong, guilty of two counts of conspiring to collaborate with external forces and one count of conspiring to publish inflammatory material.

Li Zhiying was the main instigator and participant in a series of anti-China protests in Hong Kong and was behind an attempt to stage a "color revolution" there, according to a comment posted by the office on its social media account after the court ruling.

It notes that over a long period of time, Li Zhiying, under the protection of foreign countries and external forces, has committed all sorts of evil deeds at every opportunity, which have seriously undermined the principles underlying the “one country, two systems” policy, posed a serious threat to national security, caused serious harm to the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong, and caused significant damage to the interests and well-being of local residents.

During the trial, a large body of evidence was presented that clearly demonstrated that Li Zhiying engaged in activities detrimental to national security, played a key role in the unrest that engulfed Hong Kong, and acted as a pawn of external forces, the office said.

The Office emphasized that protecting national sovereignty, security, and development interests is the highest principle of the "one country, two systems" policy, adding that the SARS bears constitutional responsibility for ensuring national security.

In today's Hong Kong, the legal system and law enforcement mechanisms for ensuring national security are becoming increasingly sophisticated, the office stated, emphasizing that the time when external forces and anti-China destabilizing elements could act with impunity is gone forever.

They warned that any person or organization that dares to challenge laws guaranteeing national security or engage in activities that pose a threat to national security will inevitably be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

The office also made it clear that pressure from external forces and interference in national security cases, or even threats of sanctions against government officials and judicial personnel of the HKSAR, will not shake the HKSAR's firm resolve to safeguard national security. -0-
