WUHAN, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) — A Donghu laboratory in central China's Hubei Province on Friday announced a breakthrough in high-speed magnetic levitation (maglev) train technology, as its test line accelerated a 1.1-ton model train to 800 km/h in just 5.3 seconds, marking a major milestone in the research of electromagnetic propulsion technology.

The test was conducted on a 1,000-meter-long track. The train reached peak speed at approximately 600 meters and gradually came to a stop, moving toward the end point over a period of 8 seconds.

According to the lab, this success was achieved thanks to the “electric guidance system of permanent magnet suspension plus electromagnetic propulsion,” which helped overcome issues such as high-speed aerodynamic stability, low-latency wireless communication, and precise control of linear motors.
