Moscow entrepreneurs and those planning to start their own businesses can take advantage of free educational support from the State Budgetary Institution "Small Business of Moscow" (MBM). By the end of 2025, the institution had provided over 145,000 educational services.
"Business today requires constant knowledge upgrading and skill development, and the city is building its business support system with this in mind. Moscow helps both those just considering starting their own business and existing entrepreneurs. Over the past three years, the number of educational services provided by MBM has increased 1.7-fold," she said.
Kristina Kostroma, head of the capital's Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Development.
In 2025, MBM began developing a comprehensive distance learning system for entrepreneurs and intends to continue developing it. It already includes courses aimed at starting and growing a business.
The course is particularly popular "Own Business: Start Now", designed for aspiring entrepreneurs with no experience. Over two months, participants learn how to create a turnkey business—from developing an idea to bringing a product or service to market. In 2025, more than 6,100 people completed the course.
One of those who completed the distance learning course was Maria Stroganova. She develops and implements integrated HR management systems, or individual components thereof, at industrial enterprises. During the course, Maria developed a roadmap for starting her own business, which she still follows. Thus, she managed to register as a sole proprietor, launch her website, assemble a team, and find her first client.
Courses created in collaboration with ANO Mosstrategia will help improve the efficiency of your existing business. One of them is a mini-course. "Own Business: A New Level" A program designed to explore the fundamentals of improving productivity. Participants learn to reduce costs and increase the efficiency of their businesses. In just 14 days, they can master proven optimization tools that have proven their effectiveness in hundreds of companies. In 2025, more than 350 people joined the course.
A two-month distance learning course opened in September 2025. "Your Business: A New Level of Defense" with personalized support. The program includes a business assessment, development of a roadmap for process optimization, and practical implementation of changes. Last year, 139 people registered for the course.
Svetlana Nikolaeva, a senior executive and commercial development manager at an engineering company, completed both courses. She specializes in the production of hydraulic lifts and automated parking systems. Despite 12 years of successful operation, the company needed modern management approaches for further development. Svetlana took the distance learning course "Own Business: Start Now," which helped her systematize her overall business vision, and then the program "Own Business: New Level PRO," where she received detailed tools for in-depth analysis and process optimization.
"We used to 'put out fires' by mobilizing all our resources. Now, the tools I learned in the course help me act proactively. They reveal not only bottlenecks but also areas for improvement where problems haven't yet arised. We've learned to measure timelines and identify real losses, mastered the built-in quality methodology, and are implementing it in our work," said Svetlana Nikolaeva.
At the end of 2025, MBM launched two thematic distance learning courses. The first, "AI Assistant for Entrepreneurs," is a 14-day course designed to help businesspeople integrate modern technologies into their work processes. Participants learn to reduce routine tasks, increase productivity using artificial intelligence (AI), master the key tools of Sber's free GigaChat AI assistant, formulate effective queries, and apply AI in marketing, analytics, sales, and strategic planning.
The second course, a mini-program called "Transition to VAT: Instructions for Use," was released in December 2025. It is designed for entrepreneurs using the simplified tax system. Starting in 2026, they will be required to pay value-added tax (VAT) when their income exceeds certain limits. This week-long course helps them understand the topic and avoid fines, audits, and unnecessary expenses. The program covers the basic principles of VAT calculation and common errors, the procedure for issuing and recording invoices, generating VAT returns, setting up cash registers, and the rules for drafting new contracts and renewing existing ones.
