From July 4 to 6, the Polytechnic University hosted the international scientific conference "Implementation of Innovations. New Materials and Additive Technologies" (VINMiAT-25). Scientists and experts in the field of materials science discussed the latest achievements in the creation of new materials and equipment design.

The organizers were the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, PJSC Gazprom and SPbPU.

The conference considered modern achievements of science and technology in the field of physical and chemical processes for obtaining new materials and designing technological equipment, problems of implementation and commercialization of innovative technologies of the country's fuel and energy complex, as well as new approaches to solving urgent problems in modern materials science.

At the plenary session, Director of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Transport of SPbPU Anatoly Popovich made a report on the experience and prospects for the development of additive and laser technologies. As the chief designer of the Scientific and Technical Complex "New Materials, Technologies, Production" within the framework of the project "Strategic Technological Leadership", Anatoly Popovich paid special attention to the manufacture, repair and restoration of components of power engineering in various ways. He also assessed the prospects for the development of the additive technology industry.

Head of the Department of PJSC Gazprom Viktor Seredenok spoke about the implementation of innovative projects in the company. Associate Professor of the Higher School of Physics and Technology of Materials of the Institute of Metallurgical Engineering and Technology Oleg Panchenko gave a report "New Technological Approaches in Welding". He presented a number of technologies that are being implemented at the Polytechnic University. These are electric arc welding with a consumable electrode with cold metal transfer and a non-consumable electrode with a focused arc, manual laser welding, friction stir welding of steels, as well as process automation technologies.

Head of the structural division of the Russian Quantum Center (International Center for Quantum Optics and Quantum Technologies) Anton Guglya devoted his speech to quantum and related technologies in the oil and gas sector. Deputy Chief Engineer for Additive Technologies at UEC Aviadvigatel Alexander Aksenov shared his experience of using additive technologies in the company.

Representatives from Russia, Uzbekistan, Belarus and China participated in the conference. Their work was organized into several sections:

nature-like materials and additive technologies for their production; welding and related technologies; technology for producing powder, composite materials and coatings; equipment, automation and robotics of innovative technologies; physical and chemical processes and innovative technologies in modern materials science; implementation of innovations in high-tech products at PJSC Gazprom.

Specialists from the research laboratory "LiAT" of IMMiT SPbPU presented three reports. The research group analyzed residual deformations of a welded joint using different welding methods. The report presented the results of the influence of the welding method on the level of residual deformations, energy input and the width of the heat-affected zone, as well as on technical and economic characteristics.

A separate presentation was devoted to the restoration of nozzle blades made of cobalt and nickel alloy using laser cladding. SPbPU scientists created a laser cladding technology and developed measures to prevent cracks. The cladding blades successfully passed operational tests.

Mikhail Kuznetsov, Head of the Research Laboratory "LiAT" of IMMiT, presented a series of robotic systems for the implementation of laser welding, laser cladding and direct laser deposition processes in industrial production conditions. Among the developments are the mobile laser cladding system "Nomad", direct laser deposition systems, as well as laser and hybrid laser-arc welding. Special attention was paid to the laser foil welding system and the system for applying a porous coating to hip joint cups. The participants' attention was drawn to examples of the systems' application for solving industrial partners' production problems.

Participation in VINMiAT-2025 is very important for understanding the development trend of industry and science in the field of additive technologies, as well as identifying points of contact for further interaction with industry, commented Mikhail Kuznetsov.

At the sections, experts considered various issues: research into the mechanical properties of continuously reinforced nature-like polymer composites, development of biocompatible titanium-tantalum composites using selective laser melting, 3D printing of metal products using melt extrusion technology, implementation of innovations at Gazprom Transgaz Saratov, the procedure for admitting MTRs for use at Gazprom facilities, modern solutions in instrument making using machine vision and FDM technology, and much more.

A cruise on a motor ship with an excursion program was organized for the conference participants. A meeting was held on board the motor ship, where reports were presented by representatives of PAO Gazprom and its subsidiaries, scientific and educational institutions and enterprises.

St Petersburg University mathematicians helped simplify signal synchronization in navigation and communication systems | Saint Petersburg State University

The proposed calculation method avoids the inaccuracies that were allowed by previously used approaches and offers engineers simple formulas that are convenient for use in real projects.

Phase-locked loop systems are widely used in satellite navigation and wireless communication devices. They provide precise synchronization of the frequency and phase of the signal coming to the device and the signal generated by the device itself. For example, in the case of a Wi-Fi connection between a router and a phone, the signals from the devices may differ slightly due to interference or instability of the transmitter (router). The phase-locked loop system compares the characteristics of the incoming signal and adjusts them to those characteristic of the device. This reduces the number of errors in the transmission of information, even if the original signal is “noisy”.

Research results, supported with a grant from the Russian Science Foundation (RSF), published in a scientific journal IEEE Access.

However, phase-locked loop systems operate stably only if a number of conditions are met. For example, there are limitations on the so-called hold range, the frequency difference at which synchronization can still be maintained. Another important parameter is the capture range, i.e. the frequency spectrum within which synchronization is guaranteed under any initial conditions. At the same time, it is difficult to accurately determine the capture range, since its calculation requires solving systems of nonlinear equations with a large number of variables. Previously, engineers used approximate methods that could lead to errors, and therefore did not always ensure stable operation of the system.

Researchers from St. Petersburg University analyzed operation of one of the most common phase-locked loop systems and found a simpler way to accurately calculate its capture range. To do this, scientists from St. Petersburg State University used a mathematical method of replacing variables, which allows equations used in other approaches to be reduced to a simpler form. In addition, the researchers used graphs to display how the state of the phase-locked loop system changes over time when transmitting and receiving signals with different parameters (frequencies and phases).

Integration of education and production: SPbPU students defended their final work at Power Machines

Students of the Institute of Industrial Management, Economics and Trade of SPbPU defended a comprehensive final qualification work in the format of "Final Qualification Work as a Project" to solve real production and management problems of the customer – JSC "Power Machines".

Three students majoring in Management, International Logistics, divided the tasks among themselves as follows: Darya Snigireva considered the issues of developing fast purchases through the implementation and adaptation of marketplaces, and Maria Shapova dealt with illiquid assets: working with unloading, organizing unscheduled inventories, creating a pricing system. Both girls were advised by Nikita Lukashevich, Associate Professor of the Higher School of Industrial Management. Yana Salangina took on the transformation of the enterprise's warehouse accounting and the development of recommendations for improving the management of the warehouse complex (consultant – Zoya Simakova, Associate Professor of the Higher School of Industrial Management).

The main task of the student of the "Trade" direction, profile "Logistics systems in trade", Ekaterina Rakcheeva was to develop a procurement training system and fill the "Knowledge Base" of the enterprise. Ekaterina was advised by Associate Professor of the Higher School of Service and Trade Irina Kapustina. The overall assessment of the effectiveness of the developed activities was made by a student of the "Economics" direction, profile "Economics and management at the enterprise", Anna Myasnikova (consultant – Professor of the Higher School of Engineering and Economics Svetlana Suloeva). The project was supervised by Senior Lecturer of the Higher School of Industrial Management, the ideologist of the implementation of the complex final qualifying work on the part of the Polytechnic University Egor Temirgaliev.

The meeting of the State Examination Committee was held on the premises of the Leningrad Metal Plant of JSC Power Machines. The State Examination Committee was headed by the Director for Development of General Industrial Suppliers of Power Machines, Evgeniya Khmel. The SEC also included representatives of the customer and the university.

The result of the students' work was a set of measures that optimize production and management processes at the enterprise. In particular, recommendations for improving the purchasing activities of Power Machines through the implementation of an industrial marketplace make it possible to reduce the duration of the purchasing process. The proposed automation of contractual activities through the development of a template for filling out a contract reduces the time of the purchasing manager. Due to the developed recommendations for improving warehouse operations through the implementation of barcoding, as well as the implementation of an automated warehouse complex management system, the time for performing warehouse operations is reduced, the accuracy of accounting and the throughput of the warehouse are increased.

During the defense, the members of the State Examination Commission asked many questions, touching on their areas of professional interest. As a result, the commission rated the work as excellent.

After the results were announced, the chairperson of the State Examination Commission, Evgeniya Khmel, summed up the defense: On the customer's side, we make fairly high demands on students both during the pre-graduation internship and writing of the work, and during the defense itself. It is very important for us that the tasks that we set for students at the beginning of their journey find application in our business after the defense of the diploma. I can say that the team did a great job!

This is already the third project successfully implemented by IPMET students for Power Machines. Last year, the Polytechnicians defended a comprehensive final qualifying work commissioned by Power Machines – Leningrad Metal Plant on the topic of transforming the purchasing activities of an industrial enterprise in order to reduce slow-turnover inventories, and in 2023 worked on the project "Harmonization of production needs with the provision of components and materials" by order of "Power Machines" – the "Elektrosila" plant.

We attach great importance to the preparation of comprehensive final qualification works created by order of industrial enterprises of St. Petersburg. In this way, we solve a dual task: on the one hand, we help the enterprise to take a new look at production and management processes, on the other hand, we prepare young qualified specialists for our strategic partner, the Power Machines company, who, while still students, successfully completed pre-graduation practice, then wrote a diploma work and, most importantly, became employees of this enterprise, – commented the director of IPMEiT Vladimir Shchepinin.

"Feat Through the Years": Exhibition Dedicated to Heroes of the Past and Present Opened at St. Petersburg State University | St. Petersburg State University

In his welcoming speech, Vice-Rector for International Affairs of St. Petersburg University Sergey Vladimirovich Andryushin emphasized the importance of the project and thanked the students for their contribution to preserving the historical truth: "You are doing very important work. Regions of Russia and China signed 120 cooperation agreements

China has been Russia's leading trading partner for over 10 years. Despite global market fluctuations and sanctions pressure, bilateral cooperation continues to strengthen, showing significant positive results. This was stated by Dmitry Volvach, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia, during the plenary session of the fifth Russian-Chinese Forum on Interregional Cooperation, which was held as part of the ninth Russian-Chinese EXPO in parallel with the INNOPROM industrial exhibition in Yekaterinburg. In total, the Russian-Chinese portfolio includes more than 80 investment projects worth more than $200 billion.

According to the Federal Customs Service of Russia and the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China, in 2024, trade turnover between the countries reached a historical maximum, increasing by 7.5%. In January-April 2025, these figures will remain the same. "On the instructions of the presidents of our countries, by 2030, our goal is to scale the volume of mutual trade to 300 billion dollars. In this regard, we are actively working to implement the Russian-Chinese Economic Cooperation Plan until 2030," Dmitry Volvach emphasized.

In recent years, Russian-Chinese cooperation has reached a new level, thanks to the large-scale implementation of infrastructure projects, especially in the energy and transport and logistics sectors. Among the largest infrastructure projects of Russia and China, the Deputy Minister named the construction of two gas complexes in the village of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad Region, which will produce up to 144 million tons of liquefied natural gas by 2035. More than 120 cooperation agreements have been concluded between Russian regions and Chinese provinces. In 2024, 311 joint events were held, and in 2025 – already 96. A list of 86 joint projects worth $ 201 billion has been approved. Among the key ones are the creation of the Bely Rast terminal and logistics complex in the Moscow Region and the development of the Dry Port in the Sverdlovsk Region.

The Deputy Minister emphasized the great tourism potential of Russia and China. In the first quarter of 2025, the total tourist flow increased by 20%. To further increase it, the visa regime is being simplified: it is planned to increase the period of stay with an electronic visa from 16 to 30 days. Work is also underway to reduce the minimum composition of a tourist group from five to three people and increase the visa-free period from 15 to 21 days.

Russia is actively promoting tourism products under the Discover Russia brand, and the restoration of air traffic is contributing to the growth of passenger traffic. “We are confident that in the near future we will reach pre-pandemic indicators and reach new heights,” Dmitry Volvach emphasized.

The world's first cross-border cable car between Khabarovsk and Heihe, which will open in 2026, will also be a significant infrastructure project. Zhang Hanhui, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Russia, in his welcoming address to the forum participants, noted: "In recent years, the mechanism of cooperation between the regions of Russia and China has been continuously improved. A meeting of heads of tourism administrations of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was held in the Chinese city of Qingdao, during which Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia Dmitry Vakhrukov noted that direct air traffic between Russia and the SCO states exceeds 1,000 flights weekly.

"The number of direct flights increases every year. Today, the number of flights is already quite significant. Almost 1,000 flights a week between Russia and the SCO countries. At the same time, there is still potential for increasing the number of flights with other SCO countries and expanding the geography of flights between the cities of our countries," Dmitry Vakhrukov said in his speech.

During the meeting, participants also discussed issues of promoting tourism potential, introducing an electronic visa and expanding air traffic.

According to the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia, in 2024, the volume of tourist flow between Russia and the SCO countries exceeded 11 million trips, which is 47% more than in 2023. Positive dynamics continue in the current year: in the first quarter of 2025, about 2 million trips were made, which is 28% higher than the same period last year.

"It is typical that the tourist flow is balanced: the number of Russians visiting the SCO countries is approximately equal to the number of tourists from these countries coming to Russia. The growth of tourist flow is largely due to the favorable visa regime. Most SCO countries, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, have visa-free agreements with Russia. The mechanism of visa-free group trips, which is already in effect with China and Iran, is developing successfully. In the future, a similar scheme may be launched with India. An additional convenience for foreign tourists is the possibility of obtaining a single electronic visa, available to citizens of 64 countries. It is expected that the positive dynamics of tourist exchange between Russia and the SCO countries will continue in the future," Dmitry Vakhrukov emphasized.

During the meeting of the heads of tourism administrations of the SCO member states, flagship investment projects in the tourism industry, new trends in tourism development in the countries of the organization and prospects for cooperation, including on issues of promoting tourism potential and the use of digital technologies in the tourism sector, were also discussed.

Thus, to date, a catalog with more than 30 attractive tourist investment projects has been formed. The total portfolio of projects amounted to more than 15 billion US dollars. These are ski, sea, balneological and health resorts, sports and tourist complexes. Also, a catalog of tourist routes in Russia for foreign tourists Time to travel is already ready.
