In 2025, the Demikhovsky Machine-Building Plant celebrates its 90th anniversary since its foundation. Today, DMZ is the leading enterprise for the production of electric trains in Russia. The plant produces EP2DM DC electric trains and EP3D AC electric trains. The trains manufactured by the enterprise are successfully operated in all climatic zones of the Russian Federation, as well as in the CIS countries.

At the Exhibition Center, the excursion participants learned about the history of the Demikhovsky Machine-Building Plant, seeing documents, awards, photographs of events, employees, veterans of JSC DMZ, models of electric trains and narrow-gauge rolling stock. A unique exhibit of the museum is an interactive miniature railway, reflecting the geography of the operation of DMZ electric trains. It recreates natural landscapes and exact copies of railway stations in the regions where electric trains manufactured at the plant run – Moscow Region, the Far East, Armenia and Kazakhstan. The model presents real regions of operation and rolling stock, which is used in these areas.

Young scientists visited production shops: mechanical assembly, electrical installation, welding, wagon assembly, repair and others. In addition to the production of wagons and electric trains, the plant carries out major repairs of passenger rolling stock, manufactures wheel sets for metro cars, electric trains and rail buses.

Excursions to production facilities are traditionally an integral part of the program of the engineering and economics school. A visit to the Demikhovsky Machine-Building Plant, organized with the support and participation of the TMH Corporate University, allowed young scientists to see the work of an enterprise in the real sector of the economy, immerse themselves in the production environment and get acquainted with modern technologies and processes.

The opening of the “Summer Engineering and Economics School – 2025” was reported in this article.

Ministry of Economic Development: The Strategy for the Development of the Creative Economy will take into account business developments

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Ministry of Economic Development (Russia) – Ministry of Economic Development (Russia) –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The Ministry of Economic Development of Russia continues to work on implementing the decisions taken at the strategic session on the development of the creative economy in the Government of the Russian Federation. One of the key documents will be the Strategy for the Development of the Creative Economy until 2036. It will be based, among other things, on the opinions and practices of the business community. For this purpose, the Center for Strategic Research is conducting a business survey.

Representatives of companies, industry associations, public and expert organizations, as well as individual entrepreneurs and the self-employed can take part in the survey. The best regional practices for developing the creative economy will also be analyzed.

An open dialogue with business is a key part of preparing a strategy, says Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia Tatyana Ilyushnikova.

"Systematic work on developing the creative economy is already underway. In 2024, a federal law on the development of creative industries was adopted, and since 2025, the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia has been officially vested with the functions of a regulator in this area. Developing a long-term strategy is the next logical step. Already during the strategic session, we received proposals from State Duma deputies, specialized associations and experts. But the key part of this work is an open dialogue with businesses and the professional community. The survey conducted by the Center for Strategic Research is one of the most important feedback tools. Its results will form the basis for decisions and mechanisms aimed at creating conditions for the sustainable growth of creative industries in Russia," Tatyana Ilyushnikova emphasized.

To take into account proposals and initiatives onsurvey page It is necessary to fill out a questionnaire and describe the project in detail, including its uniqueness, innovativeness and potential impact on the development of the industry. Information on possible economic effects and social significance will be of particular value. The questionnaire also includes an indication of current/required support measures (tax incentives, subsidies, grant support, educational programs, etc.).

Upon completion of the survey, CSR specialists will collect, summarize and submit proposals to the Russian Ministry of Economic Development for work on the text of the strategy.

Maxim Reshetnikov: Investments in SEZ reached 2.7 trillion rubles over 20 years

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Ministry of Economic Development (Russia) – Ministry of Economic Development (Russia) –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

On Wednesday, July 23, the Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Maxim Reshetnikov, presented the main results of the work of special economic zones (SEZ) over the 20 years since the mechanism was created at a meeting of the President with members of the Government.

“Exactly 20 years ago, on your instructions, a law was adopted on Special Economic Zones to create new growth points in the regions and stimulate investment,” the minister noted, addressing the head of state.

Since the mechanism was launched, 59 SEZs have been created in Russia. More than 1,300 resident companies have invested 2.7 trillion rubles and created 110 thousand jobs. Today, the zones are developing in various sectors – from industry, science and logistics to tourism.

"Special economic zones respond to key business needs. It is within the framework of SEZs that production facilities are launched that ensure technological sovereignty and replace imports," emphasized Maxim Reshetnikov.

The development of SEZs has accelerated especially in the last five years. Since 2020, more than half of the zones operating today — 34 — have been created. The influx of residents during this period was a record — 561 companies. Recent examples include the production of trailers in Tatarstan, medical furniture in the Tula region, pet food in the Lipetsk region, air filters and polymer products in the Novgorod region.

The head of the department separately noted the contribution of SEZs to the development of regional economies. The zones become drivers of diversification and create highly skilled jobs. According to the Ministry of Economic Development, the level of wages at resident enterprises is often 30-50% higher than the regional average.

In 2025, six new economic zones were created in Russia, and five more were expanded. Among the new ones are a tourist zone in Kuzbass, a machine-building cluster in the Chelyabinsk region, and an industrial and logistics hub in the Novosibirsk region. Applications for opening new sites are being developed, including a tourist SEZ in Mineralnye Vody.

According to the minister, the effectiveness of the mechanism is also confirmed from the point of view of the return of state investments: "The costs of benefits and the creation of infrastructure are recouped by the growth of the tax base. As of today, the budgetary effect from the work of the SEZ has exceeded 122 billion rubles," the head of the Ministry of Economic Development reported.

During his speech, the minister outlined further priorities for the development of the mechanism. Among them are the simplification of procedures for investors, the integration of infrastructure support measures, the expansion of tourism formats, and the active attraction of foreign companies. Today, more than 100 foreign investors from 34 countries work in Russian SEZs.

"The Institute of Special Economic Zones has become an effective mechanism for the country's economic development. This is the result of the work of regional teams, constant improvement of legislation and, of course, your support," Maxim Reshetnikov noted in conclusion, addressing the President.

How RUDN University ecologists conducted an expedition to Baskunchak

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Peoples'Friendship University of Russia –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The Institute of Ecology has had a student popular science travel club for 5 years, opened by NSO GreenLab. With the support of teachers, students organize independent expeditions – scientific research trips with the implementation of a set scientific task, as well as popular science and educational trips.

"GreenLab does not go on hikes just like that. Each of our outdoor events has a scientific or educational purpose. We see a request from students to participate in such scientific expeditions. Most are not interested in just walking or driving a route to see something beautiful and take a photo for the sake of it – they need something to take with them, in addition to vivid impressions. New knowledge, skills necessary for a future career, understanding of the structure of various ecosystems and natural processes. We select those who are in solidarity with our values and are ready not only to travel, but also to study. So not only students from other RUDN departments go with us, but also from other universities," – Daniil Mironov, GreenLab outdoor manager, student of the Institute of Ecology (Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, 1st year).

During the existence of the NSO, students have been on expeditions not only within Russia, but also abroad. The young researchers have worked in Kamchatka Krai, Murmansk Oblast, the Republic of Dagestan, Kalmykia, Karelia, Primorsky Krai, as well as in the regions of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Italy and the Czech Republic.

One of the latest expeditions took place in the Astrakhan region. A group of students went to the vicinity of Lake Baskunchak. This is not only a famous salt lake, but also karst caves and chalk quarries with various minerals and ancient fossils.

"The goal of the expedition is to study steppe ecosystems, as well as the geological features of Lake Baskunchak and Mount Bogdo. Bogdo is only 150 meters high, but it is the highest point of the Caspian lowland. Few people know, but this mountain is a real salt dome covered with sedimentary rocks. The salt layers below gradually squeeze it out, causing it to grow by several millimeters per year, promising to erupt in millions of years as real salt lava," Daniil Mironov, GreenLab outdoor manager, student at the Institute of Ecology ("Applied Mathematics and Computer Science", 1st year).

"We got acquainted with the local flora and fauna – we saw menacing solpugs, anxious snakes and numerous dung beetles. We experienced the changeability of the weather in the steppes – we conducted radial walks under the scorching sun, and in the evenings we cooked dinner and listened to lectures in the rain. We managed to walk along the surface of Baskunchak and in its brine (salt solution of lake water), the bottom of which is covered with the mineral halite – the same table salt that we use and which is mined here on an industrial scale," – Lada Yaseneva, a student of the Institute of Ecology (Ecology and Nature Management, 2nd year).

Lake Baskunchak itself is fed by 19 springs, of which only 2 are fresh. Underground water passes through layers of salt, becoming saturated and then flowing into Baskunchak itself. The concentration of salt in the lake is about 250 ml/l, which makes it one of the saltiest in Russia and in the world. Salt is not the only mineral that can be found in the vicinity of Baskunchak. There are chalk quarries around – active and exhausted, in which you can find minerals and ancient fossils, such as vertebrae of fish that lived more than 200 million years ago. Participants were able to take away samples of gypsum and feldspars.

"In a few days, we managed to visit the most interesting places: we climbed Mount Bogdo with its incredible views, visited a gypsum quarry where the land resembled alien landscapes, and, of course, we reached Lake Baskunchak. We had to walk 10 km to the lake, but it was worth it! Walking on salt was painful – my legs cut like broken glass – but the feeling of standing in the middle of an endless white desert was unforgettable. And as souvenirs, we brought home salt crystals and gypsum," – Daria Dobrova, a student at the Institute of Ecology ("Energy and Resource-Saving Processes in Chemical Engineering, Petrochemistry and Biotechnology", 1st year).
