It is clear that cinema today is not only entertainment: it is ideology, and education, and promotion, and therefore what you are doing is simply wonderful. I am very grateful to you, tens of thousands of cinema workers who produce and work on Russian cinema art," the Moscow Mayor noted.
Sergei Sobyanin emphasized that the city, for its part, is doing everything to ensure that Moscow confirms its status as the Russian capital of cinema and that it also becomes the capital of world cinema.

For film industry professionals
The largest media groups in Russia are implementing their projects in the cinema park: National Media Group, Gazprom-Media Holding, USM Holdings, Channel One, All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, Sber.

For filming, 34 locations were built in the 356-hectare cinema park, including "Yurovo Airport", "Vitebsk Railway Station", "Old Russian City", "Cathedral Square of Moscow", "City Yard", "Moscow in the 1940s", "Center of Moscow", "County Town of Russia", "Cowboy Town", "Moscow during the Constructivism Period", "Modern Moscow", "Cities of the Middle East and Central Asia", "Provincial Cities of Europe" and others. In addition, six pavilions and six infrastructure facilities were built.

A natural chromakey has been created in the cinema park. It is needed for filming using computer graphics. If necessary, a Tu-154 aircraft can be installed here.
The immediate plans include completing the construction of at least 10 sets, including the Fortress, Cities of Eastern Europe, Fairytale City and others. In addition, the film park will build two more multifunctional pavilions with an area of 4.6 thousand square meters and a working ceiling height of up to 24 meters, as well as a warehouse complex, a multi-level parking lot and a hotel complex with more than 200 rooms.

In addition to the filming infrastructure, the cinema park has created comfortable conditions for visitors and tourists. They can use the hotel and restaurant services, visit the museum and visit the festival sites. The cinema park is open to everyone on weekends and holidays. Thematic excursions and quests are held for guests as part of the "Cinema Weekend" project. Visitors can inspect the scenery if they are not involved in the filming process at that time.
The Vadim Zadorozhny Museum of Technology is open – a unique combination of automobile history and cinematic heritage. Viewers can see more than 50 units of technology – these are cars that have become an integral part of Russian culture, as well as famous foreign models.
In 2024–2025, the cinema park hosted major events, including the festival of historical reconstructions “Times and Epochs”, the gastro festival “Golden Autumn”, Eduard Boyakov’s multimedia production “Cathedral Square”, Igor Ugolnikov’s immersive performance “Moscow Speaking! Battle for Moscow. First Victory”, the International Festival of Stunt Art, the Moscow Festival of Animation and Children’s Cinema, the music festivals “Straw” and “Ours in the City”, and other events.
Since its opening, over 530 thousand people have visited the cinema park on weekends and holidays.
Moscow Film Industry
There are more than 3.6 thousand film studios, production centers and media holdings operating in Moscow. Up to 90 percent of Russian content is produced in the capital.
After the departure of foreign giants in 2022, a vacuum appeared that domestic producers and online platforms began to fill. In total, during this period, the capital's film studios earned 342 billion rubles in revenue. Profit amounted to about 31 billion rubles.
The financial performance of Moscow film companies grew steadily from 2022 to 2024. During this period, their revenue almost doubled, and their profit more than doubled. The most successful year was 2024, which brought in 143 billion rubles in revenue and 14.7 billion rubles in profit. This is almost half of the combined figures for three years.
Thus, the market is successfully recovering from the introduction of sanctions and is showing steady growth.
The Moscow government is implementing a large-scale project, "Moscow — City of Cinema". It includes the modernization of existing facilities and the creation of new infrastructure, as well as the development of special services to increase the production of high-quality international-level film content.
More than 140 projects have already been filmed on the sites of the Moscow film cluster.
The Moscow film cluster includes:

Gorky Film Studio is one of the oldest Russian film companies. Many of its films have entered the golden collection of Russian and world cinema.
At the end of 2023, the film studio became the property of Moscow. The city decided to carry out a large-scale modernization of both its sites. As a result, the total area of the Gorky Film Studio will more than double – up to 100 thousand square meters. The main work is planned to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2025.
A new studio and production complex is being built on the site at Valdaisky Proezd (building 16). It will house 10 modern technological filming pavilions, screening rooms, virtual set design studios, editing and color correction, motion capture, as well as dressing rooms and other necessary premises. The specifics of the pavilions with large-span structures up to 42 meters wide, 12 to 22 meters high and soundproofing provide ample opportunities for filming.
The new studio will include a visual technology center. It will specialize in providing a full range of video production services — from multi-camera shooting and color correction to 3D modeling and projects with virtual and augmented reality in 4K format. The center’s capabilities will allow for the production of content in real time and the creation of world-class projects.
Six new studios have opened on the historic site on Sergei Eisenstein Street. They are suitable for creating digital content and are therefore very popular among the blogging community. At the moment, the studios are 100 percent full. Two more digital studios will open at the end of 2025.
In addition, a virtual production pavilion, "55.8 Gorky Virtual Studio", has been opened. Thanks to unique technologies and large LED screens, it is possible to create content on any background and reduce filming time several times. The pavilion is currently located in the Moscow International Business Center "Moscow-City", but after the completion of the modernization of the historical site, the virtual studio is planned to be moved to one of the built filming complexes.
Since the Gorky Film Studio became the property of the Moscow Government, 20 films have already been shot there. Among them are the feature films Chizhik-Pyzhik Returns, How I Met Her Mother, Tour with Ivanushki, Vera, as well as the non-fiction films Gorbacheva, Territory of Attachment, and Through Dark Matter. More than 20 feature and non-fiction projects are at various stages of development and production.
In 2023, the Gorky Film Campus opened — a creative space for career guidance for children and teenagers in the field of cinema and media. The film campus is equipped with modern high-tech equipment, including a studio with a cyclorama and chromakey background, a sound recording studio, editing rooms, and a screening room.
The Moskino Film Factory is a large creative space on Ryazansky Prospekt. It is the first inter-industry center of full-cycle creative industries, uniting filmmakers, representatives of fashion, design, music and media, as well as IT specialists.
Currently, the film factory employs:
— four filming pavilions, allowing filming with construction to meet any request from film companies;
— two XR pavilions with the ability to shoot on LED screens with augmented reality technology;
— thematic pavilion "Police".
Soon, pavilions for free construction, with a cyclorama, as well as two pavilions with permanent interior decorations of a hospital and an apartment will be opened.
In addition, the Moskino film factory houses Europe's largest costume and props center, the Firebird. It supplies props for more than 80 percent of the country's filming projects.
In March 2025, the film factory presented a unique for Russia design of LED screens, or "washer", with an area of over 300 square meters. This allows creating unique scenes using virtual production technology and filming movies of any complexity directly in the pavilions.
With the participation of the Moskino film factory, 52 different format film projects have been implemented. Among them are The Last Bogatyr. Legacy, Chelyuskin. The First, The First Number, Sklif and Major Grom. In 2025, the filming of more than 70 projects is planned.
The Moskino Film Commission was created in 2018. Its main goal is to increase the presence of the capital, its streets, parks and cultural heritage sites on big screens, as well as to attract the attention of filmmakers to the infrastructure of the Moscow film cluster.
With the help of the Moskino film commission, producers receive permits to film in Moscow, including work on the street and road network. Since 2023, applications have been accepted only through the Moskino film platform. Producers can receive a filming permit within seven working days. It may take up to 50 working days to approve complex projects, including those using pyrotechnics, fake weapons, and special effects.
With the support of the Film Commission, more than a thousand projects were created in 2024–2025. Among them are the full-length films The Master and Margarita, Kholop-2, The Flying Ship, Ice-3, and the popular TV series Games, CyberVillage, Vampires of the Middle Lane, The Word of a Boy. Blood on the Asphalt, Kidney (second and third seasons), and Daddy's Daughters. New. In recent years, views of the capital have been filmed in such projects as At the Call of the Heart, Challenge, Actresses, and Knock on My Door.
One of the important areas of work of the capital's film commission is assistance in filming works by students of specialized universities. Among them are the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography named after S.A. Gerasimov, the Institute of Cinema and Television, the Moscow School of New Cinema, the S.F. Bondarchuk Film School, and the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors named after G.N. Daneliya. Thanks to the assistance of the film commission, more than 80 student works have been filmed since the beginning of 2025.
The Moskino cinema chain traces its history back to 1932, when by order of the presidiums of the Moscow City Executive Committee and the Moscow City Council, the Mosgorkino Moscow City Cinema Trust was formed.
Today, the Moskino network carries out cultural and educational activities. It provides viewers of all ages with the opportunity to watch not only entertaining films, but also art films, Soviet films and rare film classics on the big screen. In addition, the network supports capital film festivals and organizes its own events.
Currently, there are 15 cinemas in the Moskino network. Each of them has its own unique atmosphere and attracts movie lovers. In 2024–2025, the network will include the library with the Moskino Zhukovsky cinema hall, the Moskino Angara cinema in the Angara Meeting Place district center, and the Moskino Kinopark cinema in the Moskino Cinema Park in TiNAO.
New measures to support film producers
During a visit to the Moskino cinema park, Sergei Sobyanin announced a new measure of financial support for film producers.
"The city will also help the film industry financially – it will compensate up to 70 percent of the costs of advertising in the capital, up to five million rubles. Producers of films and cartoons for children and teenagers and authors of projects that reflect the traditional spiritual and moral values of our country can apply for this measure of support," he wrote in his channel in the messenger.

Results of the Moscow International Film Week
From August 23 to 27, 2025, the capital hosted the second Moscow International Film Week, which was attended by over 700 thousand people. The event was attended by 150 speakers from more than 20 countries – representatives of film companies, producers, scriptwriters and government officials. Over 200 meetings of various formats were held at various venues in Moscow – from film screenings to a charity film auction.
As part of the Moscow International Film Week, two Moscow companies signed agreements with foreign filmmakers on joint work on new projects. Thus, the film "Smash", dedicated to badminton, will be worked on by OOO "Film Company "Smena"" and Kartina Entertainment and Sports Private Limited (India).
