The Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov made a working visit to the People's Republic of China, where he held a number of important meetings aimed at expanding bilateral scientific and technical cooperation.

On August 22, the head of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science met with the Minister of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, Yin Hejun.

During the meeting, the parties paid special attention to the development of partnership within the framework of megascience projects. Today, Chinese scientists participate in the work of the NICA Complex facility, created at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna. Long-standing contacts continue with the Kurchatov Institute. Valery Falkov proposed developing a unified scientific research program that will ensure the joint use of the existing and emerging research infrastructure in Russia and China.

The ministers also condemned cooperation between the SCO and BRICS. In particular, a statement on strengthening scientific, technical and innovative cooperation between the SCO states until 2030 is planned for September.

On August 25, Valery Falkov held a meeting with the Minister of Education of the People's Republic of China, Huai Jinpeng.

The parties discussed the activities of joint Russian-Chinese universities, including projects that have only just been planned. The colleagues also noted the growth in the number of Chinese students at Russian universities. Over the past five years, their number has almost doubled. Last academic year, over 56,000 Chinese citizens studied in Russia.

The meeting also touched on the topic of cooperation within the BRICS line, including the initiative to create a new balanced ranking of universities that would take into account the specifics of the educational systems of the two countries. Given the experience of Russia and China in this area, Valery Falkov proposed combining efforts to create an alternative, fair mechanism for evaluating universities.

The State University of Management follows current trends in education and also develops cooperation with Chinese colleagues. The State University of Management runs a joint network master's program "International Manufacturing Business Management" with Ningbo University, organizes internships for Russian specialists in China, and last summer a cooperation agreement was signed with the Shandong Institute of Technology and Business. In addition, for faster adaptation, all foreign students are offered to study Russian at the preparatory department of the State University of Management.

80 years since the Victory Day over militaristic Japan and the end of World War II

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Official website of the State –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The Great Patriotic War, which is of colossal importance for all residents of our country, was part of a global armed conflict – World War II. After the capitulation of Nazi Germany on May 8-9, the war continued, including for many Soviet soldiers, in Europe. And on August 8, 1945, in accordance with allied obligations, the Soviet Union declared war on the Japanese Empire.

The fighting began just after midnight on August 9 and included three military operations: the Manchurian Strategic Operation, the South Sakhalin Offensive Operation, and the Kuril Landing Operation. The overall command was exercised by Marshal of the Soviet Union Alexander Vasilevsky, who managed to defeat the million-strong Japanese Kwantung Army in just 24 days. As a result of the war in the Far East, Manchuria (Northeastern China), North Korea, South Sakhalin, and the Kuril Islands were liberated. For their exploits and military distinctions during the war with Japan, more than 300,000 Soviet citizens were awarded orders and medals, including 100 people with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

Future employees of our university also had the chance to take part in the war with Japan:

— Anatoly Bastrykin – Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs (1964-1967). During the war with Japan, he was a senior sergeant in the operations department of the 300th rifle division, and was wounded in Manchuria. He was awarded the medals "For Courage" and "For Victory over Japan";

— Aleksandr Elkin is an associate professor at the Department of Structures and Constructions. During the war with Japan, he served as the head of the military construction department of the 3rd engineer-sapper assault brigade of the 39th Army. He was awarded two Orders of the Red Star, the Orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, the Order of the Red Banner, and the medals "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945", "For the Victory over Japan", "For the Capture of Koenigsberg", and "For the Defense of Moscow";

— Gennady Kokin is an associate professor of the Department of Public Relations and Advertising. During the war with Japan, he served in one of the aviation regiments of the Far Eastern Military District. He was awarded an order and many medals;

— Pavel Kolesnik – Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs (1966-1982), Head of the Department of Engineering and Technology of Automobile Transport (1982-1990), Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation. During the war with Japan, he served as an assistant to the commander of a tank company and battalion. Cavalier of the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd degree, and the Order of the Red Star;

— Leonid Petrushenko – Head of the Philosophy Department (1975-1988). During the war with Japan, he was an aviation technician in the Pacific Fleet. He was awarded the medals “For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945” and “For the Victory over Japan”;

— Andrey Shary – head of the military department (1967-1977). During the war with Japan, he was the commander of the BM-13 Katyusha multiple launch rocket system division with the rank of Guards Major. Twice Knight of the Patriotic War, 2nd degree.

It turned out to be so unexpectedly big

The entry of the Soviet Union into the war accelerated the end of World War II. On September 2, 1945, Japan signed the Act of Surrender, and on September 3, according to the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, the Victory over Japan was declared.

For the first two years after the victory, September 3 was even a non-working day in the USSR, but then it gradually began to fade into the background, giving way to the main holiday marking the end of the war, May 9. In 2020, September 3 was added to the list of days of military glory in Russia as the Day of the End of World War II. And since 2023, the wording of the official name of the holiday has also included a mention of the victory over militaristic Japan, emphasizing the fact of victory over the political regime of Japan in those years and the absence of hostility towards the Japanese nation as a whole.

The Second World War lasted six years, 61 countries took part in it, 40 of which had military operations on their territory, it affected 80% of the world's population and took the lives of about 60-65 million people. The USSR and China suffered the greatest losses – 27 million and 15-20 million people, respectively. In memory of this tragedy and great feat, as a tribute to the victors, September 3 is celebrated in Russia as the Day of Military Glory.

50 thousand young Muscovites will undergo training before the All-Russian School Olympiad

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The capital has begun recruiting for groups preparing for the All-Russian School Olympiad. Entrance exams will be held in September, andaccepting applications is already open. This was reported by the press service Department of Education and Science of Moscow.

"Year after year, Moscow schoolchildren confirm their leadership in intellectual competitions. Last season, they won 1,863 diplomas of winners and prize winners at the All-Russian Olympiad – 40 percent more than the year before. And at international tournaments, our students brought Russia 13 gold medals in six subjects – this is more than half of all the top awards of the team. Such progress became possible, among other things, thanks to systematic work with talents. 50 thousand children will be able to join the new recruitment to the Olympiad groups. The programs are designed for different levels of training," the press service of the department said.

Classes are organized in 24 subjects presented at the All-Russian School Olympiad. To get into the teams, students need to demonstrate their creative abilities and level of knowledge. The format of the tests – testing or online interview – depends on the chosen discipline.

Preparations for the Olympiad will begin in September: schoolchildren will attend seminars, off-site intensive courses, and online courses. They will be taught by teachers from leading universities, including Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and National Research University Higher School of Economics. In addition, students will be able to attend sessions with professional psychologists who will teach them how to take care of their emotional state and cope with stress.

"Last year, I got into the Moscow Law Olympiad team. The year of intensive training was very eventful: we studied legislation, developed logic and learned to build arguments. To become part of this team, we had to go through a serious selection process – diagnostics and an interview with coaches. They evaluate not only the level of knowledge, but also the willingness to work, to cope with complex tasks. Participation in the team is much more than just a chance to win the All-Russian Olympiad. This is an opportunity to lay the foundations for a successful career, be it law, business or public service. I know many graduates of our teams who now work in leading law firms, international organizations, government agencies or implement their own projects," said Daniil Tsarkov, a student of School No. 2123 named after Miguel Hernandez.

Team members study subjects in depth and try themselves in new directions. For example, young historians work with archival documents, and physicists come up with complex problems. Programs are also available for schoolchildren with special educational needs. The working group of inclusive projects of the Center for Pedagogical Excellence is responsible for creating a comfortable environment for development in a favorite discipline.

Detailed information on how to qualify and prepare for the tests can be found inspecial section on the website of the Center for Pedagogical Excellence of the capital Department of Education and Science.

The All-Russian School Olympiad is the largest intellectual competition in the country. The school stage will begin in mid-September. The competition will be held in 24 subjects. Participants from the capital, from the fourth to the 11th grade, will complete tasks on the platform "Moscow Electronic School", in the "Olympiad" service. Then they have three more stages: municipal, regional and final. The transition between them is possible upon overcoming the established threshold of points.

The number of children who will undergo training for the All-Russian School Olympiad was first announced by Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development, at a press conference dedicated to the new academic year. She emphasized that the Olympiad movement will develop. The capital is expanding both the formats of training schoolchildren and the number of areas in which such competitions are held.

Winners and prize winners of the final stage of the All-Russian School Olympiad can enter any university without exams in the areas corresponding to the competition profile. In addition, participants in intellectual competitions often get good results on the Unified State Exam: young Muscovites who have passed the municipal stage have a three times higher chance of scoring more than 250 points.

Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Official website of the State –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Today we remember the tragic events that took place from September 1 to 3, 2004 in the city of Beslan, where during the celebration of Knowledge Day at local school No. 1, terrorists took 1,128 children and adults hostage.

The criminals were especially cruel to their victims, most of whom were children. They did not give them food or water, refused medical care and forbade the transfer of medications, and shot several people at once to intimidate others and demonstrate their inhuman determination to law enforcement. The reprisals did not end there. People were beaten, forced to keep their hands raised, and threatened with gunshots. The rooms were hot and stuffy, and children lost consciousness. At the same time, the terrorists refused ransom and did not make any demands, so no one knew what to expect from them.

On the third day, the nightmare ended as a result of a sudden assault on the school building by the special forces units "Alpha" and "Vympel" of the Russian FSB. Almost all the militants were destroyed on the spot, only one of them survived, later convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. Subsequently, all the organizers of this crime were also eliminated.

The Beslan terrorist attack claimed the lives of 333 people: 186 children, 111 of their relatives and holiday guests, 17 school employees, 10 special forces soldiers, 6 civilian rescuers, 2 Emergencies Ministry employees and 1 police officer.

The memorial date of the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism was established in 2005 and is dedicated not only to the Beslan tragedy, but also to the memory of the victims of all terrorist acts, as well as law enforcement officers who died in operations to rescue hostages or prevent terrorist attacks.
