RUDN students' projects won the forum "Great War – Great Victory"

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

A large-scale forum “Great War – Great Victory” was held in Kursk, which brought together representatives of universities, public organizations and patriotic movements from 35 regions of Russia.

The RUDN team also took part in it. Over the course of three days — from September 8 to 10 — students and staff of the university attended a panel discussion "The Great Patriotic War: History Lessons, Common Memory, and Brotherhood of Nations", master classes on weaving camouflage nets, trench candles, and survival bracelets, meetings with combat veterans, and excursions around the city and the northern face of the Kursk Bulge.

RUDN team composition:

Assistant to the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs Artem Antokhin; documentary filmmaker, project manager of the Search Media Squad PSO "RUDN POISK" Maksim Lovkov; students of the philological faculty of RUDN, members of the Search Media Squad PSO "RUDN POISK" Arseniy Korobov and Evgeniy Shilov.

100 videos about heroes

The forum participants also worked in a design laboratory, where they were divided into several teams.

"The moderator of our section (it included me, Maksim Lovkov and Arseniy Korobov) suggested that the teams consider 10 facets of patriotism. We chose the "Media" facet. On average, 5-7 minutes were allocated for each stage of preparation, and there were 12 of them, then there was a pre-defense in the "World Café" format, where all the teams move in a circle and ask questions to one member of another team, who is defending the project. Our project, which we worked on together with the guys from the Kursk State Medical University, the local college of information technology and the Tula search squad "Silence", was defended by Arseniy Korobov," – Artem Antokhin, assistant to the vice-rector for work with students.

According to the RUDN student, the most difficult thing was to formulate the topic of the project, to choose the issues that are relevant and will be useful.

“As a result, we came up with the idea of creating 100 videos about the participants of the special military operation under the motto

According to Arseniy, of all the other events of the forum, he remembers the trip to Ponyri to the military memorial "Northern Face of the Kursk Bulge" the most, as he was struck by the scale and beauty of the installation. The student also liked the excursion to the local museum, where the guys were shown the captured weapons and equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, with which they invaded the Kursk region.

"Well, and of course, I was very impressed by the conversation with the heroes of Russia, veterans of the military actions in Chechnya and the SVO. I was impressed by their calm and the modesty with which they talked about their merits. Also, as a future journalist, I was interested to listen to the speech of war correspondent Alexey Ivliev, who has been working in the SVO zone from the first days," Arseny Korobov.

Another student of the Faculty of Philology, Evgeny Shilov, took part in the development of the second project, a documentary film.

“We chose the events on the Eastern Front of the Great Patriotic War in 1945 as the theme for the film. According to our plan, we planned to involve participants from various search teams and student organizations from the regions where the battles took place in its creation,” Evgeny Shilov.

Both projects won in their nominations, and the students received branded products from the forum as a gift.

Frontline texts

Also during the forum, there was an exhibition of projects by Russian universities dedicated to the memory of our people's Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The central place in the exhibition was occupied by the RUDN projects – "Nobody is Forgotten" and "Front Lines".

"Nobody is Forgotten" is a large-scale media project consisting of five documentaries. The films are dedicated to the search for the burial place of tank driver Anton Zelenko, who died in November 1941 near Moscow, the fates of children who survived the occupation of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War, fierce battles near the Dnieper in the Smolensk region in the first months of the war, the battles at Khalkhin Gol in 1939 and the phenomenon of faith and fortitude of people in war conditions. This is a large, painstaking work. Enthusiastic students took part in real search expeditions on the battlefields, found personal belongings of soldiers, equipment, weapons and even the remains of the dead. In parallel, work was carried out in the archives, combat reports, lists of losses, personal files of soldiers, memoirs were studied. This data helped to restore the context of events, to learn about the details of the exploits of the heroes of our films and the last minutes of their lives,” said Maxim Lovkov, head of the Search Media Squad project of the PSO “RUDN POISK”.

The second project, which was presented at the exhibition, is designed to study, preserve and popularize the front-line press, which was published during military conflicts involving the USSR in the 1930s and 1940s. We are talking about newspapers that covered the events on the Khalkhin Gol River in Mongolia in 1939, as well as publications from the Soviet-Finnish and Great Patriotic Wars.

"The key partners of this project were the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the Russian State Military Archive. They gave us access to the original archive issues of front-line newspapers. Now we are deciphering and analyzing the texts of the publications, then we post the processed materials on the Yandex.Zen platform. Among the articles in the army and front-line newspapers, there are publications by Konstantin Simonov and Alexei Tolstoy, which are not included in collections of their works; they could have been lost forever. In the future, we plan to create a podcast audio performance based on essays, stories, and poems from military newspapers. The texts will be voiced by our students in a professional studio. In addition, we want to shoot a multi-part documentary-feature film, Correspondents at War," Maxim Lovkov.

About the forum

The organizers of the forum "Great War – Great Victory" were the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and Kursk State University with the support of the Russian Historical Society and the Government of the Kursk Region. The event was held in the regional Youth Palace and was timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland.

It was attended by Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Olga Petrova, State Duma deputy Ekaterina Kharchenko, and representatives of regional authorities.

The Polytechnic University has opened its doors to a traveling exhibition, “The Road of Life – The Road of Labor”

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The exhibition "Road of Life – Road of Labor" is located in the salon of the bus "Volzhanin-6270.06 Cityritm-15". It is dedicated to the heroic feat of civilian transport specialists on the Road of Life during the years of the Leningrad blockade. In the mobile museum complex you can see rare exhibits and even feel like a driver of the legendary "one and a half ton truck".

What is interesting about this bus? It was created on a voluntary basis, with their own hands. There is a proverb: if the mountain does not come to Mohammed, Mohammed goes to the mountain. In this case: if there is no opportunity to visit the museum yourself, then it will come to you. I think that this is very cool, – notes the director of the SPbPU History Museum Valery Klimov.

Military highways 101 and 102, also known as the "Road of Life", were serviced by various vehicles, including heavy trucks YaG-6. But the main symbol of the Ladoga ice road remained the legendary "one and a half" GAZ-AA.

The production of these vehicles began in 1932 at the Gorky Automobile Plant. Despite its relatively small weight (1,750 kg), the GAZ-AA could move on ice 20 cm thick. However, drivers often took risks and drove onto thinner ice, which often led to tragic consequences – many trucks fell through, taking their drivers and passengers with them. These vehicles were raised from the bottom of Lake Ladoga both during the war and in our time.

The "one-and-a-half" trucks transported evacuated residents of besieged Leningrad to the eastern shore of Lake Ladoga, and delivered back food, industrial goods, coal and raw materials for the enterprises operating in the besieged city.

In addition to trucks, about 100 buses, including the ZIS-8 model, worked on the Road of Life. Their production began in 1934 on the basis of the ZIS-5 truck ("Zakhar Ivanovich") – the flagship of Stalin's automobile industry. The design of the ZIS-8 was typical for buses of that time: a wooden frame with metal sheathing and a canvas roof impregnated with waterproof paint.

It is interesting that these cars were produced not only in Moscow, but also in Leningrad, and the Leningrad models were distinguished by their particular elegance: chrome parts and three-color paint.

Such a ZIS-8 bus is depicted on the body of the "Museobus", which symbolizes the connection of times. More information about the exploits of drivers and their cars can be found at the exhibition "Road of Life – Road of Labor".

This year, most of our first-year students are not from St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, but from other regions. For them, the concepts of “September 8” and “the Leningrad Blockade” are something very distant. But for us, Leningraders, it is close. Of course, people should know about those difficult days of the blockade, they should remember, because there was no such battle in the history of all mankind. We call it the blockade of the city, but there were battles. The Battle of Leningrad lasted more than 800 days. It is hard to imagine that in the middle of the 20th century, people were dying of hunger. This is a terrible thing. History, unfortunately, does not teach, but it is worth learning from. History must be known, – shares Valery Klimov.

The participants of the exhibition emphasize that the excursion allowed them to take a new look at the Road of Life and significantly deepen their knowledge of this significant stage in the history of our city. Many people previously believed that the Road of Life was only a path across Lake Ladoga, but they had no idea that, in fact, the road was much longer and more dangerous.

The exhibition on the territory of the Polytechnic University can be visited by all employees and students of the university. The exhibition also interested residents of the Kalininsky district, who could not pass by and dropped in on a tour in the "Museobus".

The project "Museobus – Like a museum, only a bus!" is being implemented using a grant from the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society, provided by the Presidential Grants Fund. The museum bus will be on the territory of the Polytechnic (guest parking near the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God) on September 15 and 16. The exhibition will be open from 10:00 to 16:00.

The Tale of the Viennese Waltz: The White Hall Opened the 20th Concert Season

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The musical festival “Strauss Gala” marked the beginning of the new concert season in the White Hall – the 20th in its modern history.

You enter the assembly hall and are involuntarily surprised by its size… The hall is all white with a stucco ceiling, with huge windows in two rows, wide ceilings pouring in waves of light. Along three walls stretch choirs supported by light balustrades, – wrote the newspaper "Birzhevye Vedomosti" on October 2, 1902.

The history of the hall and the history of the university are common. The ceremonial opening of the Polytechnic Institute on October 1, 1902 took place in the White Hall. Many historical events took place there – from speeches of the country's political leaders to creative evenings of famous poets and actors. Permanent concert activity in the White Hall began 100 years later. On September 1, 2005, the hall opened after restoration with a concert by Vladimir Spivakov and the Moscow Virtuosi Orchestra.

"This performance became a kind of standard for all subsequent concerts in the White Hall," says Boris Kondin, head of the Directorate of Cultural Programs and Youth Creativity at SPbPU, who took charge of this work 20 years ago. "Since then, the White Hall has maintained an atmosphere of grandeur and is famous for unforgettable concerts of Russian and world stars, masters of culture and art."

On the opening day of the 20th season, guests of the White Hall were greeted by an exhibition of historical photographs, which showed how the hall had changed over the course of a century of its history.

The State St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra "Classica" presented the audience with a double gift – a concert in honor of the 20th anniversary of the beginning of the new history of the hall and the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johann Strauss Jr. The Viennese "waltz king" Johann Strauss spent many years in his beloved St. Petersburg of the second half of the 19th century, leading the orchestra at the Pavlovsk Music Station and delighting the public, including the imperial family, with brilliant concerts.

And now, in our days, immortal waltzes, polkas and marches have filled the White Hall with the grace and atmosphere of a ball.

"Strauss's music is best suited to create a festive mood and open the anniversary concert season," said the orchestra's conductor, Maestro Alexander Kantorov. "I congratulate the team and the audience of the White Hall, and wish to continue to delight connoisseurs of great classics with such celebrations of music and inspiration!"

Innovations, AIC and AI: GUU delegation visited GGNTU named after academician M.D. Millionshchikov

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Official website of the State –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

From September 10 to 12, a delegation from the State University of Management took part in the scientific seminar "Synergy of Technologies for the AIC. From Data to Solutions", organized within the framework of the Advanced Engineering School based at the Grozny State Oil Technological University named after Academician M.D. Millionshchikov.

The key issue of the discussion was the transition from collecting information to its intellectual analysis and developing effective management decisions. The participants also discussed the prospects for integrating digital technologies – artificial intelligence, big data, the Internet of Things and remote sensing – into the agro-industrial complex.

The event was attended by the Vice-Rector of the State University of Management Maria Karelina, the specialist of the Engineering Projects Management Center Vladimir Kutkov, and junior research fellows of the Scientific Research Coordination Department Anton Velichko and Dmitry Taldykin.

The seminar included a section with reports, in which employees of our university spoke about “Development of an optimization stochastic model for transport routing taking into account the spoilage of perishable agricultural products” and presented “Comparative analysis of computer vision methods based on UAV data for predictive assessment of winter crop germination”.

Vice-Rector for Research at GGNTU named after academician M.D. Millionshchikov Magomed Saidumov, who moderated the section, noted: "Digital technology has finally arrived on fields and farms. Now everything is decided by data and algorithms: from harvest forecasts based on drone images to smart logistics that preserve products."

As part of the visit to the Grozny Oil University, an excursion program was also organized for the representatives of the State University of Management: the participants got acquainted with the Science Park, High Park, the Center for Innovative Development and the GGNTU Museum. After the excursion, a working meeting was held with the management and scientific community of the university, during which issues of interaction, development of joint projects and promising areas of research were discussed.
