Directed by Viya Geka.

"Thaw. Off-Season" is the first large-scale theatrical project of the VDNKh Art Lab, which has been in existence since 2023. It is a space for experimentation and creativity, offering young directors and actors, graduates of leading theater schools, the opportunity to break away from the canons of traditional theater, choose themes, experiment with formats, and explore new spaces, including museums. The project's flagship venue is the "Worker and Kolkhoz Woman" pavilion.

The road surface on a section of Kashirskoye Highway has been renewed.

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

City Services specialists replaced the asphalt pavement on Kashirskoye Highway, one of the main thoroughfares in the south of the capital. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing, Utilities, and Public Works. Petr Biryukov.

"Maintaining the capital's roads in good condition is a particular priority. Every year, in preparation for the autumn and winter, we organize asphalt pavement renovations. We've also completed road repairs on Kashirskoye Highway. In total, we've repaired over 320,000 square meters of road between the Kashirsky Tunnel and Marshal Zakharov Street, as well as a section of the highway's alternate road," noted Pyotr Biryukov.

Repairs were previously carried out here in 2021. The coating's warranty period had expired, and heavy traffic on the roadway had caused damage and rutting in places, negatively impacting road safety.

The repairs were carried out in several stages. First, specialists milled the existing pavement, then repaired the inspection manholes and storm drain grates. Next, they laid new asphalt, and finally, applied road markings. The work was carried out primarily at night, when traffic is lighter, with partial traffic restrictions.

For asphalt paving, the city utilizes modern technologies and its own asphalt concrete mixes, produced at city-owned plants. Together, these plants produce over two million tons of mix per season.

In addition, faculty from the Graduate School of Public Administration completed the International Network Institute's advanced training program for university faculty, which was held during the Olympiad. This year's course focused on combating money laundering and terrorist financing in the context of digital transformation.

A highlight of the final week was the forum "International Financial Security Movement. Financial Security in the Age of New Technologies: Threats and Solutions," where guests and finalists had the opportunity to discuss new technologies and risks to financial security, international cooperation, and much more.

Anyone could also test their knowledge at the 2nd International Dictation on Financial Security, co-organized by Polytechnic University. More than 41,000 people participated in the dictation this year.

In 2025, the International Financial Security Olympiad will be held for the fifth time, confirming its importance as a key educational initiative in the field of financial literacy and security. We are proud that the faculty and students of the Economic Security major have been actively involved in the Olympiad movement for all these five years, noted Olga Nadezhda.

The International Financial Security Olympiad is an important step in shaping a financially literate generation capable of protecting their rights, avoiding fraud, and contributing to the stability of the financial system, concluded Vladimir Shchepinin.

Applications are now being accepted for the sixth GreenTech Sustainable Development acceleration program.

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

Source: Peoples'Friendship University of Russia

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The Skolkovo Foundation (VEB.RF Group), together with the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the country's leading industrial companies, announced the launch of the sixth cycle of "GreenTech Sustainable Development," Russia's largest program for developing an industrial supplier ecosystem. Applications from technology developers will be accepted until October 20, 2025.

Over its six years of existence, the program has transformed from an industry accelerator into a federal platform shaping the sustainable development agenda for domestic industry. It aims to address the strategic challenges of industrial enterprises through the implementation of cutting-edge Russian developments.

Directions for applications

In the new cycle, the program expands its focus: the number of selection areas has been increased to five.

Partners are interested in exploring technologies in the following areas:

ecology; industrial safety; resource efficiency; production infrastructure management; biotechnology for food security (new direction this year).

"Industry is the driver of the country's technological development, and the implementation of innovative solutions in key sectors can ensure the rapid and effective achievement of the Russian Federation's national development goals. Over the past six years, the GreenTech Sustainable Development program has become a working platform where the needs of industry meet the offerings of Russian developers. Following the previous selection process, 68 projects were developed, 22 of which are already in the implementation stages," said Nikolai Bulatov, Director of Energy-Intensive Production at the Skolkovo Foundation.

Participants in the 2025 program will receive the following opportunities:

Direct access to industrial customers for pilot projects; expert support for tailoring solutions to market needs; and the opportunity to apply for grant funding from the Skolkovo Foundation of up to 10 million rubles.

Successful cases

The effectiveness of the program is confirmed by the actual implementation of technologies by its finalists.

Skolkovo participant REDSYSTEMS has developed a portable diagnostic device for analyzing the energy parameters of diesel locomotive units. The solution allows testing in 3–15 minutes with a 99.5% accuracy rate, laying the foundation for predictive equipment maintenance. A pilot implementation of the device is planned at a Severstal plant.

SIMPLE CAMPAIGNS received a 7 million ruble grant and successfully implemented its software for managing the efficiency of production assets at the Tosol-Sintez plant, a major automotive chemicals manufacturer. The integration took five days, and the six-month economic impact amounted to 14 million rubles, thanks to reduced procurement and a 15% reduction in equipment downtime.

The development of the program's finalist, DekStream, received support from partner Gazprom Neft and a grant from Skolkovo. It is a system for monitoring pipeline detachments from foundation supports in permafrost conditions. As part of the pilot project, the IoT platform was refined and specialized position sensors were developed.

Overall, since the GreenTech Sustainable Development program was launched, the organizers have received over 3,800 applications, with over 400 projects becoming finalists and being reviewed by experts. Over a hundred technologies have been successfully implemented at customer enterprises.

The Protection of the Holy Mother of God: a great feast and the beginning of the Polytechnic University's journey

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

Source: Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

On October 14, Orthodox Christians celebrate one of the great feasts of the twelve feasts – the Protection of the Holy Mother of God.

The holiday is based on the legend of the miraculous salvation of Christians from a pagan invasion in Constantinople in the mid-10th century. The city was besieged by enemies, and people gathered in the Blachernae Church to pray. Among them was Andrew, the fool-for-Christ from Constantinople. According to his life, he was the first to see the Mother of God walking across the sky, surrounded by saints and angels. The Most Pure One began to pray for the salvation of Christians, and then spread a maphorion—a woman's veil covering her head and shoulders—over them. According to legend, a storm arose that night, and the enemy ships retreated from Constantinople without a fight.

This is how the Feast of the Intercession of the Mother of God came into being. On this day, believers celebrate the spiritual protection that the Mother of God provides to all those in need and disadvantaged.

For Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, the Feast of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin has a special, symbolic significance. Until 2018, it was celebrated on October 1st according to the Julian calendar then in use in the Russian Empire. In 1902, it was on October 1st, the Feast of the Intercession, that the consecration of the St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute took place. The clergy of the Novosiltsevskaya Church held a service in the assembly hall, and the building was sprinkled with holy water. At the opening ceremony, the government was represented by Pyotr Mikhailovich Romanov, the head of the Ministry of Finance, deputy minister, and privy councilor, who declared the St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute open.

On behalf of all those present at the service, Pyotr Mikhailovich sent a telegram to Emperor Nicholas II, who was in Livadia at the time: "Today, the St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute, erected by the will of Your Imperial Majesty, was consecrated—classes will begin there tomorrow. The director, professors, and students of the institute ask me to lay at the feet of Your Imperial Majesty their feelings of boundless devotion and gratitude for the gift of an institution of higher learning, so generously endowed by Your Highest Grace, and to report to Your Majesty that they will make every effort to fulfill their duty and dedicate themselves to the cause of good education. I humbly submit this to Your Imperial Majesty."

The next day, before classes began, Grigory Petrov, the artillery school's religious teacher and preacher, held a prayer service in the assembly hall. Then, Andrei Gagarin, the institute's director, addressed the students. Here's an excerpt from his speech: "You are the first; with your participation, the traditions of our institute will be established. Therefore, strive to ensure that it becomes a proud and stable member of its elder brothers. For its life to flow correctly, you must consciously exercise self-discipline. Follow the institute's rules and the instructions of myself and the faculty. Feel free to contact us if you have any difficulties. In us, you will always find support and assistance."

The first lecture on theoretical mechanics for students in the technical departments was given by Ivan Vsevolodovich Meshchersky, the founder of the mechanics of variable systems and a member of the St. Petersburg Mathematical Society. In one of the larger auditoriums, Professor Alexander Sergeevich Posnikov gave a lecture on political economy to students in the economics department.

On October 2, 1902, the Polytechnic received a telegram from Emperor Nicholas II in Livadia: "I sincerely wish success to the St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute, which opened today, and I thank the director, professors, teachers, and students for the sentiments they have all expressed." Nicholas.

Ten years later, on June 6 (June 19, new style), 1912, a church was laid at the Emperor Peter the Great Polytechnic Institute in honor of the Feast of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin—the institute's opening day. The church was consecrated on December 15 (December 28, new style), 1913. Today, it is an active church at the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.
