On December 3, Moscow's eleventh-graders wrote their final essay in Russian. Passing it is one of the requirements for admission to the state final assessment, including the Unified State Exam (USE). This was reported by the Moscow school's press service. Department of Education and Science.

"This academic year, more than 72,000 eleventh-graders took the final essay. To be admitted to the Unified State Exam, graduates must pass the final essay. Furthermore, essay results may be taken into account as an individual achievement when applying to universities. Results will be available on the mos.ru portal, through the Student Portfolio service in the Moscow Electronic School, or at the educational institution no later than December 17," the department's press service reported.

This year, the final essay process and evaluation criteria have not changed. Experts will evaluate the essay's independence, length, relevance to the stated topic, argumentation, composition, logic, writing quality, and grammar.

The topics for the final essay were drawn from a closed pool that was updated annually. Participants could choose one of six topics, articulated within three areas: "Spiritual and Moral Guidelines in Human Life," "Family, Society, and the Fatherland in Human Life," and "Nature and Culture in Human Life." For example, the students were asked to prepare an essay on how selfishness can be dangerous to love and what actions demonstrate spiritual maturity. The students also wrote essays on the most important aspects of family and events in Russian history in the 19th century that provoke reflection on the future.

Graduates who, for a valid reason, were unable to write the final essay by the main deadline or failed the exam, can take the exam on the reserve dates of February 4 and April 8, 2026. The results of the final essay are taken into account as an individual achievement for university admissions.

Starting in 2022, the Moscow Department of Education and Science will organize mock tests for students in the Unified State Exam format. The Center for Teaching Excellence also offers high-level training. Moscow schoolchildren can take online courses developed by the city's best teachers, which are available in the Moscow Electronic School library.

In the Moscow Electronic School's electronic diary, students can watch video analysis of Unified State Exam assignments, take self-checking tests, and access interactive applications through the "Exams" service. The service also includes tips on completing forms, videos with time management tips, and advice from psychologists on stress management and memory development.

Polytechnic University became the center of the All-Russian Mathematical Flash Mob

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The 12th All-Russian educational and entertaining math flash mob "Math Test for Adults and Not Only 'MathCat'" took place in Russia. This year, the event took place at 927 locations in 86 regions of Russia and 12 countries (Australia, Armenia, Belarus, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Moldova, Norway, Serbia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Montenegro). This math celebration is designed for everyone aged 10 and up.

Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University became one of the flash mob's offline venues for the second time. Each participant was given four sets of problems, corresponding to four difficulty levels: easiest, easy, medium, and advanced—with 10 problems in each level. The flash mob organizers called these levels "leagues": "white," "green," "yellow," and "red," respectively. After assessing their abilities, participants independently and voluntarily chose one of the leagues to solve. Each level consisted of ten problems. Solving the easiest problem earned participants 5 points, while solving the most difficult one earned 15. Furthermore, this year, a time factor was used for the first time to determine the winner: in the event of a tie, the participant who submitted the solution first was ranked higher. Participants were given 1.5 hours to solve the problem, and most used the entire allotted time. After submitting their answer sheets, participants received personalized certificates from the organizers right in the classroom.

On the day of the event, 202 people attended the site, significantly more than the previous year (144 in 2024), the majority of whom were SPbPU students. At the university site, 23 participants chose the White League (12%), 24 chose the Green League (12%), 33 chose the Yellow League (16%), and 122 chose the Red League with advanced problems (60%). In this regard, our site differs significantly from the national average, where traditionally more than half of participants participate in the White League.

Several participants, including faculty from the SPbPU Department of Higher Mathematics, competed in double and triple team competitions, along with a friend or two (in these cases, participants chose different difficulty levels). For the first time, the Polytechnic University also hosted quadruple competitions!

The Institute of Physics and Mathematics (IPM) of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) organized the event. Leading the way for staff and students, Department Head Ilya Sysoev also participated in the flash mob. The event was coordinated by the Institute's Deputy Director for Research, Marina Sysoeva, and leading specialists from the IPM Directorate, Elena Naumova and Natalia Akhiyarova. Volunteers—SPbPU students from various years and institutes—made a significant contribution to the organization.

At each site, winners and runners-up who score the maximum number of points for solving problems of the chosen difficulty level receive diplomas and souvenirs.

The capital will host events dedicated to the Day of the Unknown Soldier. It has been celebrated in Russia on December 3 since 2014. This was reported on the channel in MAX messenger Sergei Sobyanin reported.

"The main Soviet memorial to all the fallen was erected in the capital on December 3, 1966, on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Moscow. In 1941, the capital's defensive line, where soldiers of the 16th Army of the Western Front under the command of Konstantin Rokossovsky fought to the death, ran along the 41st kilometer of the Leningrad Highway. It was decided to bury the ashes of one of them—a private soldier—in the very heart of the capital, in the Alexander Garden. A temporary memorial plaque was installed over the grave with the inscription: 'Your name is unknown, your feat is immortal. To those who fell for the Motherland. 1941–1945.' On May 8, 1967, the Eternal Flame lighting ceremony took place near the monument," the Moscow Mayor wrote.

On December 3, wreaths were laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Representatives of the "Youth of Moscow" project participated in the ceremony. The youth honored the memory of the soldiers who fell on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War and spoke of their heroic deeds.

Another memorial event will take place in Victory Park on Poklonnaya Hill. There, lit oil lamps will be used to spell out the phrase "Your name is unknown, your deed is immortal." Afterward, flowers will be laid at the Eternal Flame memorial and a moment of silence will be observed in memory of the fallen.

Commemorative events are taking place across all of the capital's administrative districts to mark the 84th anniversary of the Soviet counteroffensive in the Battle of Moscow. City residents, including veterans and volunteers, are tidying up monuments, memorial plaques, commemorative signs, and graves of Great Patriotic War veterans and Heroes of the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation, and laying flowers.

Five memorial events are held in the capital each year. This year alone, approximately 80,000 people participated.

"These are very important figures. We are the heirs to the heroic deeds of our ancestors. We must always remember and honor those who defended our homeland!" concluded Sergei Sobyanin.

Financial News: Brokerage account inflows hit four-year high.

The influx of new capital into the stock market in Q3 2025 was the highest since the beginning of 2021. Retail investors deposited 872 billion rubles into brokerage accounts, up 52% from the previous quarter. Three-quarters of this volume came from qualified investors.

This interest in stock market instruments is explained by a decrease in deposit rates against the backdrop of a general easing of monetary conditions.

The number of clients with assets increased from 5.1 million to 5.3 million, with beginning investors more likely to top up their accounts immediately after opening. The segment of clients with portfolios over 6 million rubles grew significantly, growing three times faster than the mass market segment.

Investors favored bonds, reaching 38% of their portfolio, while stocks accounted for only 25%. Long-term OFZs with fixed coupons, quasi-currency securities of exporters, and ruble-denominated corporate bonds were in demand.

Thanks to the influx of new money into brokerage accounts and the rise in the value of debt securities, retail investor assets grew from 11 trillion to 11.8 trillion rubles over the quarter.
