To discover talents, promote a healthy lifestyle, and preserve the memory of generations—the capital's non-profit organizations (NPOs) care for children and adolescents, people with disabilities, special military operation (SMO) participants, and their families. They host creative events and sporting activities, and share stories about our country's achievements and family values.

Such projects receive support annually Moscow Mayor's grant competition for socially oriented non-profit organizations.

"Over the past five years alone, the competition has received more than 4,300 applications. The authors of 1,135 initiatives have won. The most popular categories are 'Youth of Moscow,' 'Our Heritage,' and 'Healthy Lifestyle and Sports,'" she noted.

Natalia Sergunina, Deputy Mayor of Moscow.

Just recently, at the end of September, it was announced results for 2025: 229 of the best were selected from more than 700 applications. Almost a third of the winners received grants for the first time.

After the competition results were announced, a mos.ru correspondent spoke with the project authors and learned what ideas they will bring to life.

Football in every yard

The autonomous non-profit organization (ANO) "Youth Initiative" will use a grant to give Moscow residents the opportunity to make their everyday lives more active. This year, it won the "Healthy Lifestyle and Sports" category with its "Football in Every Yard" project and will begin hosting open matches as early as spring 2026. Muscovites aged 16 to 35 are invited to participate.

From April to June, we will hold matches at district stadiums and courtyard football fields, and at the end of all the games, we will organize a final tournament. Our main goal is to show Muscovites that sport is accessible to everyone, and thanks to the capital's well-developed infrastructure, it's possible to play close to home. The tournaments will also allow you to master the ball game, spend time outdoors, make friends, and perhaps even make sport a regular part of your life and pursue it professionally. Denis Uvarkin, CEO of the ANO "Youth Initiative"

Pre-registration will be available for participation in the competition. Registration will open on the project's social media in March 2026. The competition will be held in seven administrative districts of the capital. Invited referees will explain the rules of the game to participants and monitor their compliance. The grant will be used to purchase sports uniforms, protective equipment, balls, and bibs—bright vests that allow players from different teams to be identified by color on the field. The grant will also be used to purchase gift sets and souvenirs for future match winners.

"Thanks to grants from the Moscow Mayor, even the most charitable projects can be made more vibrant and ambitious, attracting more participants. This is a tremendous support. At the same time, the capital has created all the conditions for the development of public initiatives. NGOs receive financial support from the city, space for work, and assistance in creating platforms for sharing experiences—coworking spaces," Denis Uvarkin emphasizes.

Bringing generations together

The "Cultural Codes of Young Moscow" project, run by the "Happy Family" counseling center, also received a grant. The funds will be used to organize events commemorating memorable dates and supporting family values.

In 2025, our center will celebrate its 25th anniversary. Throughout this time, we've regularly participated in competitions and have won several, which motivates and inspires us, giving us the strength to invent and create. Without grants, we wouldn't have achieved such a scale and been able to realize all our ideas. This year, we won in the "Youth of Moscow" category, and as part of the "Cultural Codes of Young Moscow" project, we'll be holding online lectures, quizzes, and quests, inviting young Moscow residents to talk about their libraries, schools, and courtyards—the little corners of the great capital they know. This will allow others to learn something new about the city. Irina Korchagina, Creative Director of the "Happy Family" Consulting Center

For example, a major event awaits project participants this summer. For Russian National Flag Day, celebrated on August 22, online lectures will be prepared for them about statesmen who influenced the course of history. To participate, please contact the organizers atthe project's social networks.

"People of all ages will be able to participate in the events. This will bring together generations, introduce children and adults to our country's culture and folk traditions, and help them delve deeper into history," adds the mos.ru source.

How teaching experience helps create and work in NGOsRaces, film screenings, and exhibitions: NGOs invite residents to autumn eventsSince the beginning of the year, more than 660 events have been held in district NGO coworking centers.

About the heroes of the SVO

Another winner of this year's competition is the ANO "Directorate of Sports and Entertainment Events 'Vsport'." The team will use the grant funds to implement the project "Moscow Remembers: Stories of the Heroes of the SVO."

We won the "Our Heritage" category. We want to preserve the memory of the defenders and support their families, so we decided to create a digital platform featuring video interviews, biographies, and photographs of SVO participants from Moscow. To do this, we'll interview them and their loved ones: we'll learn about the childhood and development of our heroes, their character and qualities, and how they distinguished themselves in battle. Alina Vorobyova, Director of the ANO "Directorate of Sports and Entertainment Events 'Vsport'"

Volunteers—schoolchildren in grades 8–11, and university and college students—will interview the subjects and their families. A preparatory course will be organized to teach the students how to conduct interviews.

"Over 500 volunteers will participate in the project. Thanks to the grant, we'll purchase voice recorders and microphones, branded folders, and badges for them. We'll also organize meetings where we'll explain how to conduct interviews, take high-quality photos, and digitize photographs from the subjects' family archives. After each interview, a video version, along with photographs and the subject's biography, will be uploaded to the platform," emphasizes Alina Vorobyova.

In addition to the digital archive, the project's creators will create paper albums and half-meter-long plasterboard panels. They will feature photographs and biographies of Moscow soldiers who defended their homeland with their lives and never returned home. The albums will be given to the families of the fallen, and the panels will be donated to Moscow school museums.

Find support in creativity

The "Gift of Sunlight" charitable foundation is implementing a project to support the families of SVO participants. It won a grant competition in the "Family Moscow" category.

Thanks to the grant, we're implementing an educational project for the wives of SVO participants, "Workshop for Development and Growth." We've already run programs for the families of our defenders. While speaking with mothers—the spouses of special operations soldiers—we learned that they wanted to learn new skills. We decided to create a creative handicraft course for women, where they can learn sewing and knitting. The grant funds will be used to purchase modern sewing machines and steamers, mannequins, thread, fabric, and other materials. Svetlana Myshkina, project coordinator at the "Give Sunlight" charitable foundation.

The team plans to launch the project in March. Free classes will be held on weekends at the charity's family center on Otkrytoye Shosse (Building 23, Block 5) until the end of December. The final event will be a fashion show: the project participants will walk the red carpet in outfits they sewed during the classes.

The handicraft course will be complemented by short lectures from invited speakers on a variety of topics. Experts will reveal makeup and self-care secrets and explain how to monetize a hobby. Our goal is to create a space for participants where they can learn new things, unleash their creative potential, and take a break from worries and anxieties. We are grateful to the city for its support. Grants are a great help to charitable foundations. They allow us to grow and help those in need. Gulnara Shvedova, Vice President of the "Gift of Sunlight" charitable foundation and project curator

Service Removal of unnecessary things has been operating on the mos.ru portal for four years. During this time, it has helped thousands of Muscovites tidy up their homes, providing a convenient and eco-friendly solution for disposing of old and unwanted items.

Since the service's launch, Moscow residents have submitted nearly 130,000 requests, resulting in the removal of over 3,100 tons of items. This is equivalent to the weight of 125 loaded dump trucks. Muscovites have disposed of metal objects, large household appliances, furniture, electronics, waste paper, and even vehicles. An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The final of the International Championship in Additive Technologies "3D-Profi-2025" was held in Moscow. This traditionally serves as a platform for identifying and supporting talented young people aged 14 to 23. Participants of the event, organized by the capital's Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Development, became 150 schoolchildren and students.

Over the course of three years, the project has brought together nearly a thousand people. According to the championship's rules, young specialists master engineering skills and compete in 3D design, 3D printing, and reverse engineering using professional equipment. This year, in addition to Muscovites, teams from the Moscow and Tomsk regions, the Donetsk People's Republic, the Republic of Bashkortostan, and Belarus competed for the title of winner.

Thirty teams advanced to the finals. During the championship, they developed technological projects and prepared for their presentations. The program included two main sections: intensive training and the competition day. Over the course of five days, industry experts conducted various training sessions for the teams, covering topics such as working with 3D printers and scanners, teaching reverse engineering, explaining the intricacies of 3D design, and helping them refine their project ideas.

One of the projects presented at the championship was a prototype model of the Brest Fortress. It was created by the MetaMakers team from Baranovichi State University in the Republic of Belarus. The project is dedicated to creating a historical model of the legendary fortress, which will preserve the memory of the heroic events and convey to future generations the significance of the defenders' heroism.

The Olymp team presented a project on modeling and prototyping a biomechanical limb, the Bioengineers group proposed a project on a "Bionic Forearm Prosthesis," and the Quadrobers team proposed a custom cranial implant.

The city also received proposals. For example, the Green Print team presented a project to create innovative eco-friendly flowerbeds using eco-friendly materials and a construction 3D printer. The 3dZavry team proposed custom-made equipment for pipe bending machines, unique to the market. This solution could replace traditional methods, reducing resource consumption by a factor of 10.

The competition program consisted of several stages. First, participants completed practical tasks such as repairing a 3D printer, 3D scanning an object, and printing a digital model. The teams then presented their projects at an exhibition in the exhibit area and during pitch sessions before a panel of judges.

The championship concluded with a spectacular awards ceremony for the winners and runners-up. The team from the Moscow Polytechnic University, Soft 3D, presented a 3D printer for elastic materials and won first place, receiving the grand prize—a Bambu Lab H2S 3D printer. Second and third place went to participants from other educational institutions—Baranovichi State University (team MetaMakers) and the Russian Biotechnological University (team FaceLab3D). They were awarded valuable prizes provided by their partners: a Shining 3D EinStar 3D scanner and an Anycubic Photon M3 3D printer. The winning teams will have the opportunity to complete internships at leading additive manufacturing companies.

In addition, six special nominations were established for the best results in individual competition sections. Teams received additional prizes from partners in the form of training courses, personal consultations, and master classes.

The Cyberbusly team from the Belarusian National Technical University was recognized in the "Best 3D Printer Diagnostics" category. FolloTeam from the Moscow Aviation Institute excelled in the "Best Booth" category. The RevolPCBM team from the M.F. Panov College of Modern Technologies demonstrated excellent results in the "Best Reverse Engineering" category, and the code team won in the "Best 3D Design and Printing" category.

Rare pheasants and giant parrots have taken up residence at the Moscow Zoo.

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

Source: Moscow Government – Moscow Government –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Unique birds have arrived at the Moscow Zoo's Rare Species Reproduction Center: the rarest pheasants, Cabot's tragopans, and the largest parrots in the world, the hyacinth macaws. Both species are extremely rare in captivity.

Cabot's tragopans are rare in the wild and are not represented in Russian zoos anywhere else. Their natural habitat is the mountainous regions of southeastern China. These birds inhabit subtropical evergreen coniferous, broadleaf, and mixed forests. Their population is highly dispersed, hindering genetic exchange between groups.

Other tragopans, including Temminck's and Satyr tragopans, have long been kept and bred at the breeding center. Cabot's tragopans can be identified by the patches on the males' heads: they are yellow, not blue.

"Like other pheasants, only the males of tragopans are brightly decorated. During courtship, they develop a long "wattle" with red and blue patterns, as well as blue horns—a rare sight, even in zoos. Three tragopans arrived with us—one male and two females. They've already settled into their new surroundings and immediately learned where their hiding spots are, allowing them to quickly hide from prying eyes. They're currently adapting, not included in the sightseeing tour," said Svetlana Akulova, General Director of the Moscow Zoo.

Two hyacinth macaws also arrived at the breeding center. These parrots are relatively rare in zoos; in the wild, they inhabit Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay, primarily forests, marshes, and palm groves.

The rich blue coloration of parrots is a rarity in the animal kingdom. The sex of the newly arrived young birds has yet to be determined. They have settled into their new surroundings very quickly: they are already allowing keepers to get close and accepting treats from their hands. The birds can be seen on display along with another female named Lapochka.

Hyacinth macaws are not only the largest parrots in the world (their wingspan reaches two meters), but also very vocal. Their powerful and strong beaks easily handle Brazil nuts, their primary food source in the wild.

City services specialists will install architectural and artistic lighting on 11 buildings in the city center, according to the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing, Utilities, and Urban Development. Petr Biryukov.

"We've developed a special lighting design for 11 buildings located on Arbat Street. The main goal is to integrate these buildings into Moscow's unified lighting and color scheme. Power engineers from JSC UEK will install a total of over 700 energy-efficient lamps," noted Pyotr Biryukov.

Buildings in various architectural styles, from neoclassical to modern, will be equipped with lighting. For example, the M.A. Skvortsov Apartment Building will receive it: lights will be placed along the cornice above the third floor and in the spaces between the second- and third-floor windows to highlight various decorative elements.

The Orlovs' apartment building will also be transformed, with lighting installed in the spaces between the windows between the first, second, and third floors. A.I. Urusov's apartment building will also be illuminated.

In accordance with the adopted concept, all new lighting in the capital is warm or neutral white and moderately bright. This allows for the careful accentuation of building details and elements, creating a unified light space.

Over the past 13 years, Moscow's lighting levels have doubled, and the number of buildings with architectural and artistic lighting has quadrupled. In total, over a million lighting fixtures have been installed in the capital, with energy consumption reduced thanks to the use of energy-efficient LEDs.

Thus, the decision was made to hold networking sessions and make them an annual event.

Public councilors are passionate and active Muscovites. For over 10 years, they have been involved in the life of the city: implementing their own projects, conducting creative workshops, sports activities, and group tours, and engaging in charity work. The councilors also serve as a link between residents and the executive authorities.

The Krasnaya Pakhra, Mitino, and Saltykovka electric bus depots serve 47 eco-friendly routes, which currently carry over 190,000 trips per weekday. This represents a 20 percent increase from the beginning of the year, according to the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry. Maxim Liksutov.

"Moscow is a leader among European cities in terms of the number of electric vehicles and their use. Today, more than 2,570 Russian-made electric buses serve 240 city routes. Since 2022, three innovative electric bus shelters have been built in the capital, equipped with everything necessary for driver comfort and vehicle maintenance. We will continue to develop our eco-friendly transport network, as Sergei Sobyanin instructed," noted Maxim Liksutov.

This year, electric bus depots received 65 environmentally friendly new-generation A5 KamAZ-52222 vehicles and began serving eight more routes in 20 districts of the capital. The depots feature restrooms, a cafeteria, showers, and changing rooms for employees, as well as maintenance facilities and gantry car washes with a recirculating water system.

New generation of electric buses

Replacing one bus with an electric bus reduces carbon dioxide emissions by more than 60 tons per year. This type of transport is suitable for everyone: it features a folding ramp and call buttons for passengers with limited mobility, as well as a storage area for strollers, bicycles, and large luggage. Inside, there are charging ports for gadgets and media screens with useful route information. A smooth ride and the absence of noise and vibration also contribute to a comfortable ride.

You can pay for your fare using any convenient payment method using digital validators. Electric buses deploy an air curtain when the doors open, helping maintain a comfortable temperature inside. For passenger safety, the vehicles are equipped with video cameras both inside and outside.

Moscow was the first city in Russia to begin building modern electric bus depots. In 2022, Russia's first and Europe's largest electric bus depot, "Krasnaya Pakhra," opened in the New Moscow administrative district. These eco-friendly vehicles began operating in the Novomoskovsky and Troitsky administrative districts. A year later, the "Mitino" depot was built in the northwest. With its arrival, electric buses began operating in 20 districts of the capital and two nearby cities in the Moscow region. A third innovative electric bus depot, "Saltykovka," opened in late 2023. It serves routes in the east of the city. Electric buses are also used at nine modernized Mosgortrans sites.

More electric bus routes

In 2025, the new-generation KAMAZ-52222 electric buses entered service. These eco-friendly vehicles are even more comfortable—they feature an improved interior layout, a 15 percent larger storage area, redesigned doors, and light strips with opening and closing indicators. The climate control system has become even more efficient, and there are also storage compartments for carry-on luggage. The exterior of the electric buses has been updated to reflect current trends in global industrial design.

With new equipment deliveries and the development of charging infrastructure, even more electric bus routes will appear in the city. In 2025, Moscow signed contracts with PAO KAMAZ for the delivery of 1,100 new-generation electric buses between 2025 and 2027. These buses are being developed based on operating experience from earlier models and passenger feedback. Moscow's order for new equipment supports employment in the regions and stimulates the development of domestic industry.
