Employees urban economy complex The hydroelectric power plants have begun preparing for the upcoming spring floods. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing, Utilities, and Public Works. Petr Biryukov.

"Flooding in the capital region typically begins in late March or early April, and preparations have already begun. We are checking the functionality of hydraulic structures located on the Yauza and Desna rivers, the Likhoborskaya irrigation system, the Borisov Dam, the Moscow Canal, the Istra, Mozhaisk, and other reservoirs," noted Pyotr Biryukov.

In addition, cleaning of water drainage facilities is planned and round-the-clock monitoring of water levels is organized.

At hydraulic structures, power and mechanical equipment will be put into readiness, the technical condition of vehicles carrying power sources and pumping equipment will be checked, and additional emergency response teams will be formed.

The flood season will continue as normal due to the free capacity of the reservoirs of the Moskvoretsko-Vazuzskaya and Volzhskaya systems, which exceeds the water reserves in the snowpack—this will ensure that all meltwater runoff will be absorbed.

Moscow has approved special regulations for the interaction of city services during the spring floods. They define areas of responsibility, establish procedures, and provide a mechanism for the prompt exchange of data on the hydrological situation, water volumes, and flow rates.

A sought-after profession in a month and a half: How Moscow is training plumbers

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Plumbers have become some of the most sought-after and highly paid specialists in the capital's labor market. Their work largely ensures comfortable living in any modern city. On International Plumber's Day, celebrated on March 11, we'll tell you where to obtain this profession quickly and how to successfully find employment.

"Moscow is rightfully considered the best city for studying and working: residents can master a new profession from scratch at any age, and the quality of specialist training meets the highest employer standards. Particular attention is paid to training personnel for blue-collar jobs, which today form the backbone of the capital's economy. Highly qualified plumbers ensure the smooth operation of utility systems in residential buildings, offices, and industrial facilities, without which a modern city cannot function. The demand for these specialists is confirmed by the figures: the aggregated database of the "Professions of the Future" center contains nearly 5,500 vacancies in the housing and utilities sector. Income levels reflect the high demand for qualified personnel: the average salary for plumbers reaches 170,000 rubles. Moreover, over the past five years, salaries for these specialists have increased by 64 percent," said Andrey Tarasov, head of the Moscow employment service and the "Professions of the Future" practical training center.

In collaboration with the best employers

At the Practical Training Center Professions of the Future Pechatniki has created all the necessary conditions for training qualified personnel. A "Plumbing" workshop has been opened there, where experienced mentors train future specialists. Its space recreates the conditions of a plumbing workshop: it features work areas for assembling, soldering, and testing utility systems, professional tools, and stands with pipes of various diameters. The equipment allows for a full cycle of work—from designing the layout to installing pipelines and instruments. Simulated fault simulations are used to teach students how to diagnose leaks, clear blockages, regulate pump pressure, and adjust boiler settings.

The Plumber training program is available to everyone, regardless of age, education, or work experience. Beginners can master the profession in just six weeks, while existing professionals can advance their ranks in a two-week course.

Specialists are trained in close collaboration with leading Moscow employers. This allows graduates to solve real-world problems that they may encounter in their professional lives even during their studies. Partners of the "Professions of the Future" center include PAO MOEK, GBU Zhilishchnik, Krost Concern, and other companies willing to provide graduates with jobs and opportunities for professional growth.

How to master a new profession

Among the center's students is 42-year-old Alexander Lokhmachev. He came here in search of his calling and chose the plumbing course.

"I worked as a chef for over 20 years, but eventually I burned out: I got bored and lost interest. I decided I needed a change and chose a completely new direction—I enrolled in a plumbing apprenticeship at the 'Professions of the Future' center. Special thanks to my instructor, Tatyana Shevchenko: she's a true professional and very supportive. I'm already looking for job openings so I can find a job immediately after graduation. And in the future, I plan to return to the center and advance my qualifications. I want to continue growing in this profession," Alexander said.

47-year-old Anna Vinokurova worked in IT for almost 20 years. However, with the development of neural networks, she began to wonder if digital professions might become less in demand, while manual dexterity jobs would remain relevant. Moreover, Anna Vinokurova has always enjoyed seeing quick and visible results of her work. She learned about the "Professions of the Future" center from a friend studying to be a chef there, and decided to try her hand at becoming a plumber. She admits that during her training, she sometimes completes assignments even faster than men. She has four sons, and she explains to them that it's never too late to learn a new profession.

In addition, one of the key professions in the housing and utilities sector – plumber – can be mastered at the training center "Professional"Here, training is also based on real-world challenges that industry professionals face daily. Students master the full work cycle—from reading technical documentation and selecting materials to installing, repairing, and maintaining utility systems. During training, they practice typical and non-standard situations, including repairing leaks, servicing utility systems, and working with modern plumbing equipment and components. Upon completion of their training, graduates find employment with management companies, housing and utility companies, and city construction and service organizations.

As Sergei Sobyanin noted in the strategy for the development of Moscow's social protection system until 2030, the city offers Muscovites and residents of other regions the opportunity to develop their own human resources potential and successfully integrate into the capital's labor market. To this end, Moscow is creating a modern educational infrastructure for a wide range of educational programs. It is designed for both adults and children. This work will continue.

The development of a system of vocational training and retraining of residents is one of the key objectives of the national project Personnel, initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The project aims to train qualified specialists for all sectors of the economy, so that every citizen of the country can obtain a sought-after profession and build a successful career. Over the course of 10 years, the facades of 30 neoclassical buildings in the Southern Administrative District have been updated as part of a major overhaul.

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Over the course of 10 years of implementing the regional program for capital repairs of residential buildings in southern Moscow, 30 neoclassical buildings have been restored to their historical appearance. The work was reported inurban economy complex Moscow.

Moscow's neoclassical architecture is not only an architectural style but also a unique chronicle of the city. These buildings invariably attract the attention of architecture enthusiasts, and their symmetrical facades with elegant decoration and strict cornices create a recognizable appearance in virtually every district of the capital.

Decorative porticos and balustrade

In 2023, specialists restored the residential building located on Avtozavodskaya Street (Building 9/1). The 10-story building was built in 1955 to a custom design in the Soviet neoclassical style. The first two floors are highlighted by rectangular rustication, and decorative porticoes are located on the main façade at the level of the third and fourth floors. Some window openings are accented with architraves, pediments, and panels, while the stairwell windows are highlighted by pilasters. Interstitial cornices and a crowning cornice with dentils run along the building's perimeter. A balustrade-like railing is located on the roof.

During the major renovation of the façade, preserving the building's historical beauty was a key objective. Before work began, specialists from the Moscow Capital Repairs Fund developed a unique design, taking into account all the nuances of the famous building.

Work began with clearing the exterior walls of dust and dirt and removing old plaster. Specialists then treated wet areas with antibacterial and strengthening compounds. The decorative elements of the main façade, including pilasters, cornices, panels, bands, and brackets, were also restored. The most advanced domestic materials and technologies were used to preserve them. For example, laser scanning was used to accurately determine the extent of damage during the fragmentation of these elements.

After restoring the plaster layer, the façade was painted in its original colors: the rusticated first floor was painted "saruk gray," and the main part of the façade was painted a golden beige. The balconies received significant attention: specialists restored the damaged slabs (including replacing the coating and installing waterproofing) and replaced the balcony screens. The final stage included renovating the plinth, renovating the entrance areas, and installing a new drainage system.

Rustication and wedge-shaped masonry above the windows

In 2024, a remarkable five-story neoclassical residential building, built in 1928 to a custom design, was restored at 4 Peresvetov Lane, Block 1. The building has an L-shaped plan. Its facades feature multi-component plastic art, and decorative elements are made of brick. The facade is accented by rustication on the second through fourth floors, and wedge-shaped masonry is located above the window openings. Corbels and interfloor cornices add volume to the building.

Specialists developed a unique project plan to preserve the building's pristine beauty. High-quality domestic materials and modern technologies were used during the renovation. First, the façade surfaces were cleaned and washed to remove dust, dirt, and old paint. Then, the team began restoring the building's exterior brickwork, pointing the joints, replacing course brickwork elements, and repairing weathered joints. A special antibacterial compound was applied to areas prone to waterlogging and mold growth. Old layers of paint were removed, and the architectural elements formed by the brickwork were restored. The prepared façade surface was painted in a "banana ice cream" shade, and the architectural elements were accented with a "signal white" color.

After the completion of the main renovation works, modern double-glazed windows were installed in common areas and the drainage pipes were replaced.

Arched passages and faceted rustication

In 2025, a new life was given to the building located at 1/1 Kashirsky Proezd. This multi-story apartment building (eight and nine stories) was built in 1954 according to a custom design in the Soviet neoclassical style. The building has a complex plan, and its facades are distinguished by their distinctive plasticity. The overall structure is divided into a central and lateral sections. The main facade is symmetrical and features two open arched passages decorated with profiled frames. The passage walls are decorated with pilasters with capitals and semicircular profiled arches. The facades are clad in ceramic tiles, while the first through fifth floors are highlighted with faceted concrete tiles. The outer corners of the building are decorated with faceted rustication.

The façade renovation project was carried out using a unique design and domestic materials and modern technologies. Initially, specialists cleaned and washed all exposed façade surfaces and treated wet areas with antiseptic solutions. Next, the unpainted tile surfaces were treated with a water-repellent coating to protect them from the harsh effects of atmospheric precipitation. The façade was painted in historical colors: the diamond rustication was beige, and the additional elements were painted light ivory and classic white. Additionally, the entrance areas were renovated, a new external drainage system was installed, and the plinth and blind area were renovated.

More than 370,000 young Muscovites attend technical clubs and sections.

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

Source: Moscow Government – Moscow Government –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Nearly 20,000 technical clubs for schoolchildren and college students have opened in Moscow, according to Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development.

"Moscow is building a flexible education system where every child can successfully develop their personal interests through hobbies and, if desired, use them to build a successful career. Today, over 1.5 million schoolchildren and college students attend various clubs and sections. Nearly a quarter of them choose technical fields—over 370,000 students, a 15 percent increase over the past five years. In response to demand, the number of such sections is also growing—there are now nearly 20,000 of them in the city. Students interested in these fields present their projects at competitions, festivals, and engineering competitions. We create a consistent path for schoolchildren: from their first steps in a club, where they learn mechanics and physics and design rocket and aircraft models, to training in engineering and IT classes. In these classes, students can deepen their knowledge and even gain practical experience working with representatives of partner companies," said Anastasia Rakova.

She added that Moscow's schoolchildren learn to apply their knowledge to real-world problems. This practice-oriented model allows for the development of a talent pool that will ultimately determine Moscow's technological leadership.

In technical clubs, young Muscovites master the basics of mechanics, physics, and programming, and learn to design aircraft, rocket, and ship models. They also build unmanned aerial vehicles, work with design software and 3D printers, study schematics and drawings, solder, and use metalworking and carpentry tools.

Special attention is paid to the engineering program, which offers students access to over 3,300 sections. This number has grown by almost a quarter in the past year. Students assemble and program devices, work in teams, and present projects at competitions, festivals, and engineering competitions. For example, Vladimir Dorofeev, a student at the Moscow Palace of Pioneers, together with his mentor, Vladimir Sukhotsky, developed a low-cost prototype of an underwater robot for monitoring polluted water bodies. It dives to a depth of 15 meters, is controlled from a ground station, and is equipped with a full HD camera, sensors, and a compass. The device is designed to operate in environments hazardous to humans and can be used for local environmental research.

"Today, children's interests extend far beyond simply using technology. The current generation strives to understand computer games, program code, and create their own products. The concept of 'creation rather than use' is becoming the foundation of learning: students develop original content, design robots, and create apps that solve real-world problems," noted Mikhail Shlyakhtunov, head of the technology department at the Strogino Children's Art Center.

Moscow schoolchildren won medals at the International Exhibition of Young Inventors

One of the key principles in the development of technical education in Moscow is a multidisciplinary approach. Modern specialties combine information technology, engineering, and the natural sciences. The capital's clubs' programs also focus on developing "soft skills." By working on complex projects, children develop critical thinking, team communication, and the ability to find innovative solutions—qualities that will give them a competitive advantage in the future job market.

For many schoolchildren, technical clubs become the first step into a career. The skills and knowledge they gain here help them make informed choices about engineering and IT classes, where they continue working on real-world projects as part of the school curriculum. As Sergei Sobyanin previously reported, over 90 percent of engineering graduates enter universities.leading universities of the countryAmong them are the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the National Research University Higher School of Economics, the National Research Nuclear University Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, and other prestigious educational institutions.

According to an agreement between the Moscow and Moscow Region governments, more than 50 existing commuter routes will be integrated into the Moscow public transportation system by 2026. These routes run in the western, northwestern, northern, and northeastern directions. Overall, at least 30 percent of the existing commuter ground public transportation routes are planned to be integrated into the Moscow public transportation system by 2028. After this, they will be equipped with the Moscow public transportation standards familiar to residents: convenient bus schedules and intervals, modern rolling stock, and professional drivers.

The opening of interconnected interregional routes will not only improve the comfort of passenger travel but also provide an additional impetus to the development of the Moscow region's transport infrastructure, including through the installation of modern stops, the development of dedicated public transport lanes, the creation and reconstruction of existing transport hubs, and the expansion of opportunities for using various modes of public transport for daily travel between the capital and the Moscow region.

The regional carrier's freed-up rolling stock will be used to strengthen routes running through the Moscow Region and connecting populated areas with MCD stations.

In accordance with the objectives of the national project Infrastructure for Life Moscow is placing significant emphasis on modernizing its social and public infrastructure, including increasing the number of convenient public transportation routes and upgrading its rolling stock. Furthermore, as part of the national project, the capital has begun developing the Central Transport Hub. It will become a unified transport hub with predictable commuter rail service for more than 30 million residents in 11 regions of Russia.
