The Active Citizen project has begun vote for the best photographs of the capital's flora and fauna. Participants will determine the winners of the "Wildlife of Moscow" contest. Photos taken in the city depicting wild animals, plants or mushrooms were accepted.

Both professional photographers and amateurs aged six and over could participate. This year, 1,108 works were submitted to the photo contest, of which the jury selected 35 best. Active Citizens will choose 10 winners in four nominations, including Animal Portrait, Animal Behavior, Animals in the Environment, and Plant Life.

"Every year we see a growing love for the capital's nature. It is shared by both the residents themselves and photographers from all over the world. In 2025, 1,108 works from 191 participants were submitted to the "Wildlife of Moscow" nomination, each of which is an amazing look at the green world of the capital – from nimble squirrels in parks to rare birds on city water bodies. Last year, 895 works from 146 participants were submitted to the competition. In 2025, the number of applications increased by almost a quarter. Moscow is home to hundreds of species of animals and plants, and each photo helps residents to see and appreciate this amazing and at the same time very fragile world even better," noted

Julia Urozhaeva, head of the capital's Department of Nature Management and Environmental Protection.

The winners of the competition will be announced on October 16 at the opening ceremony of the International Wildlife Festival "The Golden Turtle"Their works will be included in a large photo exhibition, and the authors will receive prizes.

"The Golden Turtle" is an ecological and educational project that inspires care for the environment through art and love for nature. The general partner of the festival is the capital Department of Nature Management and Environmental Protection.

Project "Active Citizen" has been operating since 2014. During this time, more than seven million people have joined it, and more than seven thousand votes have been held. Every month, 30 to 40 decisions made by city residents are implemented. The project is being developed by the State Institution "New Management Technologies" and the capital Department of Information Technology.

The Moskvich labor project, which united student teams of the capital, has ended

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The Moskvich labor project, which united student brigades, has ended in the capital. More than 500 participants of the Moscow branch of the Russian Student Brigades worked in the city this summer: they erected construction sites, took care of passenger comfort on trains, served clients at airports and restaurants, created IT products for companies, and worked as junior and mid-level medical personnel.

"Moscow student teams are a real help to the city and an invaluable experience for the guys themselves. The students not only showed themselves professionally at a variety of sites – from the metro and airports to modern construction sites and clinics, but also demonstrated their creative and athletic talents," said Margarita Savinkina, head of the "Youth of Moscow" project.

Students and schoolchildren combined work with creativity and sports. For example, the children took part in the art object competition "Victory was forged by labor", the Spartakiad "Festival of yard games", the creative festival "Capital of creativity – we work and create" and media competitions.

From conductors to doctors

Schoolchildren aged 14 to 17 worked at stations of the Moscow Central Circle, Moscow Central Diameters, the capital's railway stations and at the A4 children's centre. Members of the service teams admitted students to universities, checked in passengers for flights at Vnukovo International Airport, were waiters on high-speed trains Moscow-St. Petersburg and in business lounges at railway stations. Conductors worked on long-distance trains and visited Saransk, Adler, Kazan, St. Petersburg, Rybinsk and Bryansk.

The construction students worked for PAO MOEK, PAO Rosseti, and at Moscow Metro facilities. They also built dormitories for the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba (RUDN) and the Vorobyovy Gory Innovation Science and Technology Center of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, and modernized the urban environment at OEK Stroytrest.

Students of medical universities worked for two months at the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Care, the N.A. Semashko RZhD-Medicine Clinical Hospital, and the 36.6 and Gorzdrav pharmacies.

At the closing of the season of the Moskvich labor project, the results were summed up, the winners of the competition tests were awarded, and the students were thanked for their high-quality work in the capital.

The student construction team "Titans" from the National Research Moscow State University of Civil Engineering (NRU MGSU) became the best in the project. All summer the guys worked on the site where the campus of this university is being built.

Creative and sports competitions

In their free time, young people competed in creativity. In the nomination "Performance skills", the international student construction team "Meridian of Friendship" from RUDN won. In the nomination "Team Dance", the leaders were "Meridian of Friendship" and the service team "Citrus" from the Russian Biotechnology University. The student medical team "Egida" from the Russian National Research Medical University named after N.I. Pirogov took first place in the nomination "Theater of Small Forms".

Moscow student teams also took part in media competitions. In their communities, the guys ran the column "Moskvich Diary". The students talked about their workdays, acquired skills and personal achievements. The student construction team "Titans" (NRU MGSU) won. The guys also became winners of the photocross "Moscow in the lens", within the framework of which it was necessary to find unusual places in the capital and take creative photos.

In August, students went to the stadium of the Russian State Agrarian University – Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy. There, sports competitions were held in the format of popular children's games, including hopscotch, rubber band, lapta, dodgeball, race for the flag, checkers and tic-tac-toe. In the overall team standings, first place was shared by the pedagogical team "Eterna" from the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, the construction team "Titans" of the National Research University MGSU and the medical team "Egida" from the Russian National Research Medical University named after N.I. Pirogov

In addition, the results of the art object competition "Victory was forged by labor" in honor of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War were summed up. Participants created three-dimensional models of reduced versions of museum panoramas. The winner was the construction team "Titans" from the National Research University MGSU.

The activities of Moscow student brigades support the project "Youth of Moscow" of the city Committee on Public Relations and Youth Policy.

Restoration of the Church of the Ascension of the Lord in Kolomenskoye Completed — Sobyanin

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

The 16th century Church of the Ascension of the Lord has been restored in the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve. Sergei Sobyanin spoke about this in his blog.

"Last year, we began implementing a comprehensive project to improve the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve. We are tidying up and creating new play and sports areas, planting trees. This year, we opened a new embankment. At the same time, we carried out the restoration of a unique monument of Russian architecture – the tent-roofed Church of the Ascension of the Lord in Kolomenskoye," the Moscow Mayor wrote.

In 1994, the church was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List along with the Kremlin, Red Square and the Novodevichy Convent. Careful and thorough restoration lasted two and a half years. Particular attention was paid to the tent: the brickwork was cleaned of dirt and old plaster, treated with a biocidal composition, primed, and a new coating and paint were applied. Modern materials ensured good vapor permeability, the masonry will "breathe".

The cross and the apple (a decorative element in the form of a ball located under the cross) were cleaned and covered with gilding. The craftsmen cleaned the white-stone kokoshniks, architraves, carved capitals and lancet windows, and also restored the lost parts.

The royal seat is a canopy on the eastern facade of the temple, crowned with a keel-shaped zakomara with an image of a double-headed eagle. It was once painted with ochre, terracotta and green paint. During the restoration, specialists did not paint over or make up for the loss of white stone, deciding to turn this place into a museum.

The historic staircase with stirrups was cleared, coated with red lead and painted. The base of the building was preserved in its historic form. Small losses and unevenness were intentionally left and preserved to emphasize the age of the church, which will soon be 500 years old. Inside, the brickwork was cleared of plaster, lost fragments were replaced, and the white stone capitals with carvings were restored.

The church is scheduled to open on the feast day of the Ascension of the Lord in May 2026. By that time, the tyablov iconostasis will be returned to the upper aisle, and a new exhibition about the history of the building will be prepared in the basement. Andrey Batalov, Doctor of Art History, Professor, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, became the scientific consultant for its creation.

The exhibition will be open all year round, and the church itself will be open only during warm weather. Services will be held on the main church holidays, and the rest of the time the church will function as a museum.

“There are several more objects of the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve next in line for restorers, including the Sytny Dvor building,” concluded Sergei Sobyanin.

Specialists from the municipal services complex have begun upgrading the large gas control station "Akademichesky" in the southwest of the capital. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Public Utilities and Improvement Petr Biryukov.

"The city is conducting systematic work to update gas pressure control points, which are responsible for reducing gas pressure to certain values and maintaining them within specified limits. We have begun repairing the Akademichesky gas pressure control point, which supplies gas to public utilities and residential areas in the Akademichesky and Gagarinsky districts," said Pyotr Biryukov.

The decision to modernize was made due to the long-term operation of the gas equipment. The work will be carried out in a short time without disconnecting consumers from the gas supply. As part of the project, the outdated equipment will be replaced with a modern cabinet-type gas control unit with a capacity of more than 1.6 thousand cubic meters per hour, manufactured from Russian components at the in-house production of Mosgaz JSC. It has a high degree of reliability and reduced noise characteristics, which meets all safety requirements. Additionally, the supply gas pipelines will be updated.

All capital gas control points are necessarily equipped with shut-off devices, their operating parameters are constantly monitored from the central control room, which allows for real-time management of the gas industry.

From January to August 2025, 58 social infrastructure facilities were built in the capital using budgetary and extra-budgetary funds. This was reported by Vladimir Efimov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Development Policy and Construction.

"Moscow is building real estate both at the expense of investors and within the framework of the capital's Address Investment Program. From January to August 2025, 58 social facilities with an area of almost 480 thousand square meters were built in the city. Of these, approximately 90 thousand square meters are healthcare facilities. In the first eight months of this year, 41 educational and six sports facilities were also built in Moscow. Thanks to new schools and kindergartens, the city now has more than 17 thousand places," Vladimir Efimov noted.

Social facilities are built both in established areas and next to new residential complexes so that all necessary infrastructure is available to city residents near their homes.

"Since the beginning of the year, developers have built 35 social facilities, including 30 buildings for educational activities, three for sports and two for health and wellness. For example, a new sports and wellness complex has appeared in the Biryulevo Vostochnoye district. The area of the five-story building is more than seven thousand square meters. It includes halls for group classes and a gym, a 25-meter-long common swimming pool and administrative premises," said the Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the capital's Department of Urban Development Policy

Vladislav Ovchinsky.

The construction of social infrastructure facilities was carried out under supervision Committee for State Construction Supervision of the City of Moscow (Moscow State Construction Supervision Authority). As the chairman of the agency noted Anton Slobodchikov, during the work at all stages, the committee inspectors conducted a total of more than 400 on-site inspections. As a result of the final events, conclusions were drawn up on the compliance of the buildings with the requirements of the approved design documentation, after which permits were issued for their commissioning.

Almost 400 thousand visitors took part in open lectures, discussions, master classes and other events, watched live broadcasts of podcasts with experts and film screenings in the lounge area, participated in games and quizzes. Thanks to the work of the pavilion, residents and guests of the capital were able to learn more about the economy of Moscow, improve financial literacy and look into the future of one of the largest megacities in the world," said Maria Bagreeva.

An important feature was the educational mission of the site: each of the pavilion’s areas, from the children’s play labyrinth and film screenings to the business program events and the central game “Economicon,” was aimed at gaining practical knowledge about economics and developing useful skills.

Maria Bagreeva noted that more than 200 experts shared their knowledge, experience and advice on finance, economics, career, opening and running a business, as well as cybersecurity with the pavilion guests. Among them were famous economists, representatives of government bodies, entrepreneurs, scientists, bloggers, writers and journalists. Thanks to the comprehensive approach to the program, each visitor to the pavilion was able to gain knowledge that was relevant to him or her.

The experts also took part in recording over 100 episodes of the “Economics in Detail” podcast. They can now be listened to on all popular platforms.

According to Maria Bagreeva, the high interest from both visitors and experts shows the relevance and demand for educational projects that help to better navigate the current economic reality. It is important that people are not only open to gaining new useful knowledge, but are also ready to share it with others.

The country's largest banks, Lomonosov Moscow State University, the National Research University Higher School of Economics, the New Economic School and the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics took part in preparing the pavilion's business program.

More than 150 doctors were awarded honorary status at the Moscow 2030 forum

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

At the forum "Territory of the Future. Moscow 2030" in Gostiny Dvor, more than 150 heads of departments of the capital's medical institutions were solemnly awarded. They received the honorary status of "Moscow doctor". Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development Anastasia Rakova congratulated the specialists and noted that this status confirms the high professional qualities of the capital’s doctors.

"The path to the best healthcare system in the world seemed difficult seven years ago. We started with the infrastructure — we built and renovated not dozens, but hundreds of hospital buildings. Our plans are more ambitious than what we have already done — in the next five years, there will not be a single old hospital building left in Moscow. But the medicine of the future is not only modern buildings and equipment. Its foundation is people, their knowledge and dedication to the cause. For this, we introduced the mandatory status of "Moscow doctor". The exam was deliberately made extremely difficult, because a leader must be able to set a high bar and solve complex problems. Already 1,200 managers (70 percent) have received this status. This is your well-deserved victory, which will allow us all to move forward. Congratulations on this achievement, I wish you inspiration and faith in yourself. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the cause," Anastasia Rakova congratulated the specialists.

Heads of departments are key specialists in Moscow medical organizations. They not only provide highly qualified medical care to patients themselves, but are also responsible for the effective work of their department. The best specialists become such managers. They have a high level of professional competence and the necessary management qualities. The status of "Moscow doctor" is one of the confirmations of this. The Council of Chief Physicians at the Moscow Department of Health recommended this status as a necessary criterion for all heads of departments in Moscow hospitals.

An applicant for the status must confirm a high level of theoretical knowledge and practical skills not only in his main specialty, but also in related areas of medicine. To do this, a doctor must constantly expand his professional horizons, master the latest medical technologies and methods of diagnosis and treatment. Such a comprehensive approach allows for a more accurate assessment of competencies, revealing the potential of doctors and improving the quality of medical care for patients.

The assessment of professional competencies takes into account a higher level of requirements for the qualification of a specialist, therefore it is particularly complex. When checking practical skills, unique simulation and medical equipment of the Personnel Center is used, and the procedure itself is controlled by an expert commission, which includes the main freelance specialists of the Moscow Department of Health.

The content of the assessment tools is constantly being improved. They are developed and updated by the professional medical community of Moscow.

To obtain the status of "Moscow doctor", the applicant must have the required work experience in the specialty and pass three stages of assessment procedures: computer testing for knowledge of theory, demonstration of practical skills, and an interview with solving problems on clinical thinking. At the same time, in addition to the increased level of requirements for the knowledge and skills of the doctor, the threshold for passing each of the stages by the number of points scored has been increased.

The Moscow Doctor project was created in 2017 on the initiative of the Moscow City Health Department with the support of Sergei Sobyanin. In June 2024, the procedure for submitting an application for a voluntary assessment to obtain the honorary status of "Moscow Doctor" became much simpler. Now almost all stages of document preparation are performed by specialists of the Personnel Center, and the doctor only needs to fill out an online form on the website.

Palace on the Khimki Reservoir. How the Northern River Terminal has been transformed in five years

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The port of five seas, an outstanding example of Stalinist Empire style, a venue for concerts, film screenings, festivals, city holidays, training sessions, weddings. The Northern River Terminal is not just a transport hub, but a symbol of the renewed Moscow. On September 5, 2020, it opened after a large-scale reconstruction. In addition, the nearby embankment and park were improved. We tell you how the station has changed in five years.

The station is once again living the life that is embedded in its DNA

The Northern River Terminal was built together with the Moscow-Volga Canal (today the Moscow Canal). Immediately after its opening in 1937, it became a symbol of the slogan "Moscow – the port of five seas": river vessels departing from here could reach the Azov, Black, Caspian, Baltic and White Seas. In the 1990s, the port fell into disrepair: scheduled routes were cancelled, the building was occupied by offices and shops. Later, the station was closed due to its emergency condition.

The Northern River Terminal is a cultural heritage site of federal significance. The renovation of its building began in 2018, and in 2019, the improvement of the territory began.

The revival of the cultural heritage site of federal significance began in 2018. Specialists restored the facades of the building, reminiscent of a three-deck ship with a mast, one-and-a-half-meter porcelain medallions, sculptures and an antique clock, a spire with a star, a wide central staircase, interiors, panels, stained glass windows with state emblems, ceiling paintings, and tidied up the embankment and park. The port is worth visiting at least because it has become a monument to its era.

"This is a unique structure, a grandiose manifesto. The author of the project, Alexey Rukhlyadev, faced a difficult task: to create the quintessence of the new state and system in stone, to reflect their youth and aspiration. He searched for the right architectural language for a long time. The building harmoniously intertwined the future Stalinist Empire style (in 1937 it had not yet formed) and features of European trends: Art Deco, Neoclassicism, Venetian Gothic. The station is filled with works of art, which was new. Subsequently, this approach will be used in the capital's metro: stations will be decorated with bas-reliefs, sculptures, panels. The Moscow-Volga Canal was dug when the city was suffocating from dehydration, the river systems could no longer provide it with water. The culmination of the hydraulic structure was the Northern River Station. Arriving ships were greeted by porcelain medallions on the facades, which demonstrated the achievements and plans of the Land of Soviets – an icebreaker, a submarine, a flight over the North Pole, and the never-realized project of the Palace of Soviets. All this made the port a monument to its era," said Oksana Bondarenko, director

Museum of Moscow Transport.

You can get acquainted with the palace on the Khimki Reservoir on excursions of the Museum of Transport. They are held regularly, registration is open on the website. The guide will show architectural details and tell about legends associated with the station. For example, about what a "special purpose room" is. During the navigation season, excursion groups have a unique opportunity to climb onto the roof and see the legendary star with gems on the spire.

"Architect Alexey Rukhlyadev built not just a port, but one of the first public spaces in Moscow. Here you could play sports, send mail, dine in a restaurant, walk in the park. The Northern River Terminal and the Moscow-Volga Canal are the stars of cinema, scenes from cult films such as Volga-Volga and Po Semeynym Circumstances were filmed here. So the port was integrated into the cultural code of the city. Now it is once again living the life that is embedded in its DNA. This station is a symbol of the renewed Moscow, it unites history, transport, culture and sports," the mos.ru interlocutor emphasized.

During the improvement, the park was restored to its historical appearance and layout, supplemented with modern infrastructure. The concept was based on the project of engineer Timofey Shafransky. He was the author of the layout of the Northern River Terminal Park in 1936-1938. Some functional zones were reproduced according to his design, while others were created anew.

The surviving objects — the fence along Leningradskoe Shosse, the sculptures "Waterway" and "Sport", the arched pavilions of the piers and the control room — were restored. Two historical fountains were recreated on one of the longitudinal alleys, crowned with sculptural compositions in the form of a whooper swan. Both historical buildings adapted to modern needs and new structures made in the style of the 1930s-1950s were used to house the cafe and other objects.

River cruises and transport exhibitions

With the revival of the Northern River Terminal, the capital has reminded us of its status as a port of five seas. Cruise ships and pleasure boats depart from its pier. You can sail to Tver, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Yaroslavl, Uglich and other cities of Russia. The port is equipped with modern passenger services. There is a comfortable waiting room and electric cars that take people with luggage to the ships. The flows of tourists and vacationers are distributed so that no one interferes with each other. A pop-up space of the Museum of Transport is open at the station.

"Twice a year we open a new exhibition on a topic related to transport: architecture, professions, history of the Northern Port. For example, one of them was dedicated to the history of the Moscow Children's River Shipping Company and the dreams of young captains about a great voyage. We showed an exhibition about the Moskvich car, timed to coincide with the biopic exhibition "The Dream of a Moskvich". Today, at the station, you can see the exhibition "Iron Ladies", timed to coincide with the 90th anniversary of the first line of the capital's metro. It introduces the equipment with which the construction of the metro begins – tunnel boring machines. Since ancient times, such machines have had female names, since the patroness of all miners was Saint Barbara," explained Oksana Bondarenko.

Light shows, ceremonial raising of the spire and weddings

The Northern River Terminal celebrates the main holidays of the country and its capital: Russia Day, City Day, Victory Day, Moscow Transport Day. City festivals and film screenings are held here. In the warm season, the project site is located here "Music in the Metro": instrumental and vocal compositions are performed in the open air.

"One of the most memorable events was the "Park of Light" festival, which took place in July this year. The park, the embankment and the building's facade turned into a single light installation, and a theatrical performance took place in the canal's water area. Another bright spectacle was the opening of navigation. A parade of ships passes through the port along the Khimki Reservoir. A 27-meter spire is ceremoniously raised. By the way, in the last century it was raised three times: in honor of the opening of the canal, the victory in the Great Patriotic War and the 850th anniversary of Moscow in 1997. Now the mechanism is debugged, and the spire symbolizes the beginning and end of navigation, as it was originally intended," said Artem Mikhailov, head of the Northern River Terminal.

This year, Artem Mikhailov celebrated his wedding at the Northern River Station. The station joined the project "New Addresses of Happiness" in 2021. The employees of the capital's registry offices conduct the ceremonies after closing, from 20:00 to 00:00. Weddings here take place in the warm season – from May to September. After the wedding, the spouses have the opportunity to go up to the roof and have a photo shoot alone, without visitors. The port has become one of the favorite venues for newlyweds.

Dancing in the Park and Yoga on the Roof

Alleys, sculptures and fountains in the park, an embankment with a beach area and swimming pools, a model of the Moscow Canal, playgrounds and an amphitheater, a river cuisine restaurant with an interior in the Stalinist Empire style… The Northern River Terminal is a fashionable place to spend leisure time. There are open areas for playing streetball, table tennis and chess, workout zones, there are lanes for runners and cyclists. In addition, races and competitions are organized on the territory of the river terminal. In winter, there are two skating rinks with artificial and natural ice, a ski trail. The port has also joined the project "Sports Weekend". Anyone can train for free under the guidance of professional trainers.

"In the warm season, the park hosts functional (pumping up all muscle groups) and dance training. It's nice to keep fit in the fresh air, among fountains and greenery, like at a resort. And on the roof, you can do yoga and stretching. There is a picturesque view of the reservoir, which immediately lifts your spirits and motivates. These classes are always sold out. With the onset of cold weather, we move to the basement of the building, where there is an atmospheric space with sculptures. I conduct functional training and stretching classes. My groups include people of different levels of fitness and ages. Some come here from other parts of the city. After all, no gym can compare with the Severny Port," shared Vladimir Makhaev, trainer of the Sports Weekend project.
