UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) — Venezuela's permanent representative to the United Nations, Samuel Moncada, on Monday asked the Security Council to take action following the U.S. air strike on his country over the weekend.

Venezuela urges the UN Security Council to fully assume its responsibility and act in accordance with the mandate entrusted to it by the UN Charter, said S. Moncada at an emergency meeting of the Security Council.

“In this regard, we ask that the government of the United States of America fully respect the immunity of President /of Venezuela/ Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, as well as their immediate release and safe return to Venezuela,” the Permanent Representative said.

S. Moncada demanded that the Security Council clearly and unequivocally condemn the use of force against Venezuela and reaffirm the principle of non-acquisition of territory and resources by force.

He said the military action taken on Saturday against Venezuela constituted a grave violation of the UN Charter, in particular the principle of the sovereign equality of States, the prohibition of the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State, and the obligation to settle disputes by peaceful means.

According to the Permanent Representative, the US actions also constitute a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions and Protocols.

If the kidnapping of a head of state, the bombing of a sovereign state, and the open threat of further military action are tolerated or downplayed, a devastating signal will be sent to the world that law is not binding and force is the true arbiter in international relations, warned S. BEIJING, January 6 (Xinhua) — On December 30, 2025, a train fully loaded with photovoltaic modules and auto parts departed from Jinhua South Railway Station in east China's Zhejiang Province for Central Asia via the Horgos Border Crossing in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. This marks the first time that the number of freight train departures between Zhejiang Province and Europe as part of China-Europe international rail freight transportation in 2025 has exceeded 3,000, reaching a new all-time high, according to a statement posted on the official website of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China.

COLOMBO, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) — Five people died after drinking illegally distilled alcohol in Sri Lanka's North Western Province, police said on Tuesday.

Three people died shortly after drinking alcohol, and two more died in the hospital, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

SHENZHEN, January 6 (Xinhua) — By the end of 2025, the sub-provincial city of Shenzhen, in Guangdong Province, exported goods worth 6.87 billion yuan (approximately $981 million) via China-Europe rail freight routes, according to data released by the local customs service on Monday. This figure is a 40 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Another cargo train recently departed Shenzhen's Pinghunan National Logistics Hub, bound for Vorsino Station on the Moscow Railway. The train is carrying 565 tons of goods produced in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, including everyday items such as women's chevrolet boots, massage devices, and electronic gadgets that meet market demand in Russia.

As a reminder, Shenzhen was one of the first special economic zones established by the Chinese government after the announcement of reform and opening-up. JERUSALEM/BEIRUT, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) — The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Monday said it struck Hezbollah and Hamas targets in Lebanon, citing "continued violations of the ceasefire."

An earlier IDF statement said targets would be in four villages: Anan and Kfarhatta in southern Lebanon, and El-Manara and Ain al-Tina near the country's eastern border.

Banjul, January 6 (Xinhua) — An overloaded vessel capsized off the coast of Gambia on New Year's Eve, and the bodies of 31 victims have been recovered so far, the local Immigration Department announced on Monday.

The vessel, carrying around 200 undocumented migrants, departed late on December 31 from Gambian North Coast in an attempt to illegally reach Spain's Canary Islands, a press release said.

It was reported that shortly after departure, the vessel struck an underwater sandbank and capsized. After receiving a distress signal, the Gambian Navy launched a search and rescue operation with the support of local fishing vessels.
