In January, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University will publish updated admissions rules for the 2026/2027 academic year. These changes will be a key guideline for thousands of applicants. The Open Day, traditionally held on the first Sunday in December, was dedicated to these upcoming innovations and the overall admissions strategy. Around 5,000 guests visited the Main Academic Building in person. Over 2,000 people joined the live stream on social media.

Dmitry Tikhonov, Vice-Rector for Continuing and Pre-University Education, addressed the guests with a welcoming address, highlighting the benefits of studying at the Polytechnic University and the prospects for students. Lyudmila Pankova, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, presented the university's educational policy in the context of the transition to a new higher education model. The keynote address was given by Vitaly Drobchik, Secretary of the Admissions Committee, who detailed the admissions process and planned innovations for the upcoming admissions campaign.

Following the official opening, participants were able to visit the institutes' booths, meet faculty, interact with students, and learn more about the educational process, subjects, and career opportunities. Master classes, presentations, and various activities were also prepared for the university's guests. The Civil Engineering Institute presented a virtual laboratory called "Life Safety," design master classes, and the unique "Polytech MetaCampus" project. The Humanities Institute held a quiz on creative advertising, a diplomatic quest, and master classes on translation and psychology.

The Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications impressed the audience with a spectacular science show featuring liquid nitrogen, plasma, and a nanosatellite, and then introduced guests to projects from their industrial partner, the Special Technology Center. The Institute of Power Engineering and the Institute of Computer Science and Technology held presentations on their key areas of expertise. The Institute of Industrial Management, Economics, and Trade engaged prospective students in the intellectual LEGO Challenge and business games hosted by the student Business Club. The Institute of Biomedical Systems and Biotechnology offered the opportunity to participate in the MARS LAB science quest and attend the molecular gastronomy masterclass, "Watercolor of Taste."

SPbPU's Career Development Office presented employment opportunities, internships, and internships, as well as collaboration opportunities with the university's partners, in an interactive format. Participants also had the opportunity to meet with representatives of companies offering targeted training, including Obukhov Plant, Radar MMS, Special Technology Center, Krasny Oktyabr, and UEC-Klimov.

Guests also had the opportunity to visit a photo zone, take a campus tour, or receive advice at special stands. They could ask questions to Admissions staff, members of the United Student Dormitory Council, and representatives of the Black Bears-Polytech sports club. They could also choose a program for schoolchildren with specialists from the Applicant Services Center and the Informatics Academy for Schoolchildren.

A live broadcast was organized for the online audience. Its hosts—Varvara Sotova, Director of the Student Contingent Development Center, and analyst Inna Zakharova—discussed the university's capabilities, events for schoolchildren, and the admissions process. Guest expert presentations added practical value to the broadcast. Elena Mordvinova, Head of the HR Development Department at Power Machines, and Vladislav Krasnikov-Verbnikov, Leading Specialist at SKB System Engineering, spoke about career opportunities and the joint educational trajectory. Vadim Kozhevnikov, Associate Professor of the Physics Department and the Higher School of Artificial Intelligence Technologies, Dmitry Tarkhov, Professor of the Higher Mathematics Department, and Vladislav Kovalenko, Lecturer in Preparatory Courses at SPbPU, demonstrated the importance of fundamental training for future specialists. They clearly explained why a deep understanding of the exact sciences underlies any engineering innovation.

The day concluded with a spectacular physics show from the Institute of Physics and Mathematics, as well as a university-sponsored prize draw. This Open Day once again confirmed that Polytechnic University is more than just a university, but an entire ecosystem where fundamental science meets cutting-edge technology, creativity, and direct dialogue with future employers, helping every applicant take a conscious step toward a successful career.

Every year, we see an increase in the involvement of applicants and parents in career guidance events, leading to higher standards for their content. Therefore, today's Open Day is not so much a presentation of admissions rules and educational programs, but rather a showcase of the university's entire ecosystem of capabilities: research laboratories, engineering creativity, student associations, culture, and sports. The role of industrial partners is crucial here, and we are pleased that our colleagues actively participated in the event, showing the students the present and future of certain industries and professions, noted Dmitry Tikhonov.

The event took place in Moscow from December 3rd to 4th. Residents of the Insight People production center (part of Gazprom-Media Holding) Alexander Zarubin (Stone) and Valeria Tkacheva took part in the conference.

The bloggers spoke at the session "Countering the Radicalization of the Population and Attempts to Involve It in Extremist and Terrorist Activity." They shared their experiences in creating educational content and shaping the right meanings, ideas, and values for young people.

"We, opinion leaders, are in a unique position to influence the younger generation and show them what kind of world they can create. This world must be one of kindness and mutual understanding. We must understand our responsibility, because our influence is not just about popularity but also the opportunity to change people's lives for the better."

Alexander Zarubin (Stone) TV presenter, actor, athlete and multiple Russian and world champion in mixed martial arts

Valeria Tkacheva, journalist, political commentator, expert for the People's Front movement, and founder of the anti-cyberbullying project "I AM WITH YOU," noted that it is in the family that the foundations are laid that later influence how children perceive the world.

"We pass on our values, and it's up to us to determine what kind of people our children will grow up to be. In the face of modern threats, such as youth radicalization, our task is to pass on these values with renewed vigor and attention."

Valeria Tkacheva, journalist, political observer, expert for the People's Front movement, founder of the anti-cyberbullying project "I AM WITH YOU"

The event focused on contemporary challenges: cyberterrorism, online radicalization, and countering extremist ideology. Particular attention was paid to the role of the digital environment in these processes. Social media is increasingly becoming a source of risk, as the destructive content disseminated on them can draw the younger generation into illegal activities. Participants discussed the need for preventative measures in schools and universities to ensure information hygiene and the importance of targeting the "right" opinion leaders.

Gazprom-Media Holding places great emphasis on fostering a safe digital environment: it organizes and supports initiatives to improve cyberliteracy and is a founding member of the Alliance for the Protection of Children in the Digital Environment.

The BRICS Anti-Terrorism Conference 2025 was held under the auspices of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The forum brought together over 100 representatives of relevant authorities, academics, and socio-political circles from BRICS member countries and partners.

Melodiya is starting to press records at its own plant in Novosibirsk due to high demand. The first batch of records, featuring works by David Tukhmanov, the band Zodiac, and the VIA Dos-Mukasan, is already available for sale, Melodiya's press service told TASS.

"Firma Melodiya" is still associated with vinyl records by most of our compatriots. The revival of production under the Melodiya brand is a natural development of musical traditions in our country, which will allow the plant to become a worthy successor to the Soviet Melodiya plants," said the company's CEO, Andrey Krichevsky.

The first record from the new production facility was the "Dos-Mukasan" album by VIA. The records were printed in 2025, using master tapes made from the original master tapes. Maxim Pilipov served as the sound engineer for the restoration and remastering. The plant plans to expand its product line and produce records commissioned by artists and music companies.

As Krichevsky previously reported to TASS, the initial investment amounted to approximately 150 million rubles. This is a full-cycle facility based on the Allegro II production line manufactured in Hong Kong. The main suppliers of the equipment are Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, and China. The company plans to release tracks from its catalog as well as custom-made ones, allowing any customer—artist, songwriter, label, agency, or copyright holder—to release their album. Production volume will be approximately 100,000 records per year.

The government has decided to extend pilot projects to transition to digital utility bills and electronic document management for gas equipment maintenance until the end of 2026. The corresponding decrees have been signed. These projects have been implemented in the Moscow region since last year and have already proven their effectiveness.

The "Single Payment Document" project has enabled residents of the Moscow Region to eliminate the need for paper utility bills. Citizens can receive single payment documents through their personal accounts on the regional government services portal. To date, over 53,000 residents of the Moscow Region have used this option, and the extension of the project will gradually increase the proportion of citizens using digital payment documents.

Residents who prefer to receive documents in a traditional format can continue to use paper receipts. The transition to digital services is voluntary, preserving the ability to choose the most convenient method of interacting with government and commercial organizations.

The region is also implementing a project to introduce electronic document management between citizens and the gas distribution company. Specifically, the regional portal already offers six services through which people can sign contracts for gas equipment maintenance, order meter verification, equipment repair or replacement, and other services. Furthermore, citizens no longer need to provide any documents to sign such contracts (previously, at least seven were required), and the time required to complete them has been reduced by an average of 20 minutes. Currently, approximately 50% of all service requests are processed electronically. At the request of residents, two more services are planned to be added to the pilot program: gas equipment disconnection and gas meter installation or replacement, as well as the ability to sign completion certificates with a simple electronic signature.

"The Moscow Region's pilot projects have proven their effectiveness. First and foremost, they eliminate duplication of data and paper documents, and also make services more flexible and user-friendly. With further development, these approaches can be scaled up nationwide. In fact, this is why the decision was made to extend them until 2026," said Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the Government Staff Dmitry Grigorenko.

Order No. 3571-r of December 2, 2025

By the end of 2025, 2 billion rubles will be allocated for the construction of the world-class "Arctic Star" student cluster in Arkhangelsk. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed the corresponding order.

The funds will be allocated to the Arkhangelsk Region budget in the form of an interbudget transfer on a co-financing basis.

According to the project, the total area of the campus buildings will be over 125,000 square meters. The campus will consist of several multi-story research and educational blocks, including classrooms, laboratories, and other spaces for applied research. It will be able to accommodate approximately 300 students at a time.

The campus will also include a conference center, a fitness and wellness complex, two hotel buildings, a clinic, a coworking area, and other public spaces. Completion is scheduled for 2028.

Comment

From Mikhail Mishustin's opening remarks at a meeting with deputy prime ministers, December 8, 2025

Commenting on the decision at a meeting with deputy prime ministers on December 8, Mikhail Mishustin noted that the Arctic Star campus will focus on key areas of life and activity in the Russian Arctic zone, including shipbuilding, the development of shipping along the Northern Sea Route, and the development of natural resources.

"It's important to note that the activities of such sites are closely linked to the industry focus of the region where they are located, based on the needs of its businesses. This issue was discussed in detail during the presentation of the inter-university campus in the Omsk Region, which we visited," the Prime Minister emphasized.

According to Mikhail Mishustin, the program to create a world-class campus network in Russia was launched four years ago at the President's initiative. To date, 29 campuses have been commissioned, and four more will be launched by the end of the year.

The work is being carried out within the framework of the federal project "Creating a Network of Modern Campuses," which is part of the national project "Youth and Children."

Order No. 3568-r of December 2, 2025

By the end of 2025, 382.3 million rubles will be allocated for the comprehensive development of the Novorossiysk transport hub. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed the corresponding order.

Budgetary investments allocated from the Government's reserve fund will, in particular, allow for the accelerated construction of the B receiving and dispatching railway yard at Novorossiysk station, the continuation of the reconstruction of the section between the Kirillovsky checkpoint and Park B, and the completion of the reconstruction of the Gaiduk traction substation.

In addition, using the allocated funds, the reconstruction of the first main track will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2025.

In September 2025, the Novorossiysk Transport Hub development project was included in the comprehensive state program "Construction," which made it possible to attract federal budget funds for its implementation.

In total, approximately 50 km of new railway track is planned for construction. This will eliminate bottlenecks in the approaches to seaports in southern Russia, which in turn will improve the speed of cargo delivery.

As Mikhail Mishustin reported at a meeting with deputy prime ministers on December 8, nearly 70 billion rubles have been allocated for such purposes by 2030.

"We will continue to develop new logistics routes and increase highway capacity to ensure reliable product deliveries and enable people to travel quickly and easily across the country," the Prime Minister emphasized.

The work is being carried out within the framework of the federal project "Development of the core railway network", which is part of the new national project "Efficient transport system".
