Increased export customs duties on softwood and hardwood lumber (oak, beech, and ash) have been extended for three years, until December 31, 2028. A decree to this effect has been signed.

The decision will maintain restrictions on the export of unprocessed timber, for which sawn timber serves as a "cover product," and ensure a stable supply of raw materials for domestic producers.

Increased rates apply to the export of certain types of timber with a moisture content greater than 22% and a thickness and width greater than 10 cm. Export duties on softwood timber are €200 per cubic meter, beech timber – €250, ash timber – €300, and oak timber – €370.

The export tax on softwood lumber will be 10%, but not less than 13 euros per cubic meter; on oak lumber, 10%, but not less than 15 euros per cubic meter; and on beech and ash lumber, 10%, but not less than 50 euros per cubic meter.

Such restrictions on the export of timber have been in effect since 2022.

Ankara, December 31 (Xinhua) — Turkey has introduced a visa-free entry regime for Chinese citizens holding regular passports and entering for tourism and transit purposes. China to tighten fuel economy standards for cars by 2026

Beijing, December 31 (Xinhua) — Three mandatory national standards limiting fuel consumption for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles will take effect in China on January 1, 2026, the State Administration for Market Regulation announced.

The new rules set stricter energy efficiency targets for vehicles for the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).

Fuel consumption standards for conventional and hybrid passenger cars have been reduced by approximately 18 percent compared to the previous version. For example, for models with automatic transmissions and weighing approximately 1.5 tons, the new standard requires fuel consumption to not exceed 7.74 liters per 100 km.

To achieve international best-in-class performance, the average fuel consumption target for corporate passenger cars by 2030 has been reduced by approximately 48 percent and set at 3.3 liters per 100 km. Notably, the calculations will include the energy consumption of fully electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.

For light commercial vehicles, the fuel consumption limit has been reduced by 10 percent overall. For example, for a gasoline-powered truck weighing approximately 2 tons, the new standard requires fuel consumption to not exceed 9.13 liters per 100 km.

For the first time, the standards set average fuel consumption targets for corporate light commercial vehicles. For example, for gasoline-powered trucks, the 2030 target is an average of 5.7 liters per 100 km, which is in line with the best international standards.

These measures are expected to encourage businesses to continually upgrade and improve energy-saving technologies in vehicles, allowing consumers to buy more fuel-efficient vehicles and promoting low-carbon, eco-friendly travel.

JERUSALEM, December 31 (Xinhua) — The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Wednesday that it carried out 20,900 attacks in the Middle East in 2025, mainly in the Gaza Strip, Iran, Syria and Lebanon.

China highly appreciates these countries' firm support, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday.
