FUZHOU, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) — East China's Fujian Province on Sunday opened its first Arctic sea route to Europe as part of the development of the "Ice Silk Road."

The container ship Istanbul Bridge left the Jiangyin port area in Fuzhou Port on Sunday morning and is expected to reach Europe via the Arctic route in just 19 days.

According to Fuzhou Customs, the new route will connect major Chinese ports including Qingdao, Dalian, Shanghai and Ningbo, as well as key European ports such as Felixstowe (UK), Rotterdam (Netherlands), Hamburg (Germany) and Gdansk (Poland).

This route provides exporters from Fujian Province and its neighboring provinces with a more convenient and efficient channel for delivering building materials, textiles, electromechanical products and other products to European markets.

The new route will cut shipping time by about a week compared to the China-Europe rail service, and by more than 20 days compared to sea shipping through the Suez Canal or the Cape of Good Hope route, said Xiao Bin, business manager of China Ocean Shipping Agency Fuzhou Co., Ltd.

Beirut, September 22 (Xinhua) — An Israeli drone struck a motorcycle and a passing car in the southern Lebanese city of Bint Jbeil on Sunday, killing five people, including three children, and wounding two, health and security sources said.

The Ministry of Health's Emergency Operations Center confirmed the casualties. According to Lebanese Army intelligence, the drone fired two guided missiles, killing Hezbollah member Mohammad Mroua on a motorcycle and four civilians in a nearby car.

LANZHOU, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) — More than 1,200 representatives from 97 countries and eight international organizations gathered for the 8th Dunhuang International Silk Road Cultural Expo, which opened Sunday in Dunhuang, northwest China's Gansu Province, a key hub along the ancient Silk Road.

The EXPO runs until Monday and includes events such as cultural dialogues and exhibitions, as well as artistic performances, aimed at promoting global cultural cooperation.

The Mogao Grottoes, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1987, represent an extraordinary cultural heritage. Nanning, September 22 (Xinhua) — The 22nd China-ASEAN Expo and the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit concluded on Sunday in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, south China. Agreements on more than 500 trade and economic projects were signed during the events.

Wei Zhaohui, Secretary-General of the China-ASEAN Expo Secretariat, said at a press conference on Sunday that agreements on 155 investment projects were signed during this year's event, including 74 projects in the manufacturing industry, accounting for 88 percent of the total investment.

Damascus, September 22 (Xinhua) — Syria's People's Assembly (parliament) elections have been set for October 5, the country's Supreme Committee for Parliamentary Elections announced on Sunday. These will be the first parliamentary elections since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's government last year.

JERUSALEM, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) — Israeli cabinet ministers on Sunday called for the annexation of the occupied West Bank in response to Britain, Canada and Australia recognizing a Palestinian state.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, a far-right member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition, called for "immediate countermeasures." In a post on the social media platform X, he called for "the immediate application of sovereignty in Judea and Samaria," using the Israeli term for the West Bank, and declared that Israel must "crush" the internationally recognized Palestinian Authority.
