BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) — A train loaded with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) yarn and thread, departing from Shaoxing, east China's Zhejiang Province, arrived in Kashgar Prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Sunday. The cargo will then be transported by road to Uzbekistan via the Torugart border crossing. This marks the first shipment of mixed rail and road freight from the aforementioned city to be sent abroad after transshipment in Kashgar, and marks the opening of a new freight route in Kashgar, the prefectural administration press office reported, citing local customs.

As it turns out, there are currently 16 similar routes operating through Kashgar on a regular basis.

An innovative export cargo transportation model combining rail and road transport was introduced by the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China and China Railway Corporation last September, significantly reducing logistics costs for enterprises and significantly increasing the efficiency of transit shipments.

Over the past year, since the implementation of this model, more than 1,300 consignments of goods within the framework of this type of transportation have undergone customs clearance in Kashgar.

Local customs officials have promised to further strengthen Kashgar's role as a hub for mixed freight transport by rail and road.

Let us recall that, according to the results of the first eight months of this year, the volume of foreign trade of the district amounted to 77.67 billion yuan (10.93 billion US dollars), which is 12.2 percent more than a year earlier. -0-

Beijing, September 29 (Xinhua) — The first batch of master's students from Kazakhstan successfully graduated from the Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University of Science and Technology in Shaanxi Province, northwest China, majoring in trophology and technology.

The graduation ceremony for the joint Chinese-Kazakh master's degree program in trophology and technology took place last week, according to the university's official website.

The event was attended by the university's rector, Wu Puteh, and representatives of the National Agrarian Scientific and Educational Center and the S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University. A total of four young Kazakhstanis received academic degrees from both universities.

This event marked another milestone in the program's implementation. As the first step taken by the Northwestern Scientific and Technical University of Agriculture and Forestry in collaboration with international universities, the program was officially launched in May 2023.

At the ceremony, Pute congratulated the master's students on successfully completing their master's programs and thanked the teachers for their hard work.

He urged young specialists to focus on cutting-edge trophology and technology and promote the modernization of the food industries in Kazakhstan and China. They should also promote intercultural exchanges between the two countries and advance bilateral cooperation through their actions.

The two-year master's program consists of two stages. The first stage, lasting one semester, is held at the S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University, and the second at the North-West Scientific and Technical University of Agriculture and Forestry. Upon successful completion of exams and defense of their final theses, students receive a master's degree from both universities.

Changchun, September 29 (Xinhua) — On September 27, the first vehicle to cross the Hunchun-Kraskino border crossing under the TIR (Transport International Road) system delivered an ice resurfacing machine to Vladivostok. This event symbolizes the successful opening of two-way TIR vehicle traffic through the Hunchun-Kraskino crossing, as well as the creation of a new, highly efficient logistics corridor between China and Russia.

"After the opening of TIR traffic, everything became much faster; vehicles pass through instantly," said Chinese driver Jin Feng, who transported the aforementioned equipment to Vladivostok in his truck. After leaving the border crossing, delivery to the destination took just four hours, saving one to two days compared to previous transportation times and methods.

TIR is an international system that simplifies the transport of goods between countries. Under this system, cargo is sealed at the starting point of the route and inspected only upon arrival at the destination. At intermediate border crossings, border crossing officers merely verify the TIR carnet data and the customs stamp on the vehicle. This reduces transit time and mitigates potential risks associated with administrative customs procedures and cargo damage. China joined the TIR Convention in July 2016.

"The opening of the Hunchun-Kraskino TIR cross-border corridor is of great significance for expanding the openness of Jilin Province (Northeast China)," said Sun Yehong, acting deputy director of the Jilin Provincial Transportation Bureau.

She noted that, as the province's only road crossing into Russia, the Hunchun crossing is characterized by short customs clearance times and stable operations, as well as lower cross-border transportation costs. The Hunchun crossing is connected to the advanced development areas of Russia's Far East and the free port of Vladivostok, where there is high demand for freight transportation. Furthermore, Hunchun boasts well-developed support infrastructure, including warehousing and processing facilities, and a complete import and processing chain with unique location advantages.

In recent years, Jilin Province has been steadily promoting the development of its TIR freight transport sector. Currently, the province has 17 TIR carnet-holding enterprises, and a stable two-way TIR freight market has emerged, covering such cargo categories as perishable goods, cold-chain products, smart home appliances, auto parts, and more.

"With the support of the Jilin Provincial Transportation Bureau, our company, thanks to its efficient customs clearance and shipping services, has attracted cargo owners and freight forwarders from several provincial-level administrative units across the country to choose Changchun as their TIR departure point," said Lin Mi, CEO of Xinglong International Logistics Company.

According to him, with the opening of the Hunchun-Kraskino TIR cross-border corridor, the transit time for freight routes through the Hunchun border crossing to Vladivostok and back could be reduced by almost 50 percent, which will help attract more cross-border commerce participants to choose this route and facilitate the development of regional transportation via the TIR system.

It has been reported that Jilin Province will also actively plan to establish an international freight collection and distribution center in the future, providing comprehensive services including TIR document issuance, freight collection and distribution, customs brokerage services, and more, thereby creating a logistics hub for international transportation in northeastern China. -0-

In September, in a vacant lot in Aksu, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, the intelligent drilling rig "Jinpeng," independently developed by Zhongman Oil and Gas Corporation, is operating normally. There is no noise from traditional drilling, only the gentle hum of the robotic arms.

"Autonomous machine coordination and remote personnel control"—this intelligent drilling scenario not only changed the traditional perception of oil drilling as "hard, dirty, tedious, and dangerous" work, but also marked the transition of the oil and gas industry in Aksu to a new stage of "intellectualization."

Zhongman (Aksu) Oil and Natural Gas Exploration and Development Company is a private enterprise established in Wensu County, Aksu City, in 2018. It began construction and produced its first oil in the same year, and has now become an important pillar of the local economy.

The viability of the private economy in Xinjiang is reflected not only in industries such as oil and gas production, but also in the daily lives of ordinary people.

Kashgar is renowned as the "land of fruits." In 2024, Xinjiang Jasarat International Trading Company collaborated with faculty from Xinjiang University to launch the first NFC juice (directly pressed fresh fruit juice), developed and produced in Kashgar. According to CEO Abdukyum Maimaiti, products such as pomegranate juice are already being exported to neighboring countries.

More and more private enterprises are taking root in Xinjiang, creating a vibrant picture of thriving local industry.
