TEHRAN, November 17 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that the country is currently not enriching uranium, while stressing the country's right to do so.

"Currently, uranium enrichment is not being carried out in Iran because our relevant infrastructure has been attacked," he said on the sidelines of an international conference in the Iranian capital Tehran, according to the official IRNA news agency.

Iran's right to enrich uranium and peacefully use nuclear energy is "indisputable" and must be recognized by the international community, including the United States, the foreign minister said.

S. A. Araghchi stated that there are no “undeclared” nuclear facilities or uranium enrichment facilities in Iran, and all Iranian nuclear facilities are under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Commenting on the possibility of resuming negotiations between Iran and the United States on the nuclear issue, he noted that the current approach of the US government in no way indicates its readiness for honest negotiations on equal terms to protect mutual interests.

“What we have seen so far from the Americans has actually been an attempt to impose maximum, excessive demands,” he said.

Iran and the United States had held five rounds of Oman-brokered proximity talks on the nuclear issue and lifting US sanctions and were preparing for a sixth round when Israel launched airstrikes on nuclear and military sites in Iran on June 13, killing senior commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians.

On June 22, US forces struck Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan. –0–

Why is the whole world fascinated by Labubu?

Beijing, November 17 (Xinhua) — While young people in Moscow's Red Square rejoiced after receiving a surprise box containing Labubu, people lined up in front of the Louvre in Paris to buy the trendy Chinese collectible designer toys (Chinese name: Chao Wan), and on a giant screen in New York's Times Square, Labubu "interacts" with fans from around the world.

Laboubu, a colorful example of Chinese Chao Wan toys created by Pop Mart, with fluffy ears and an "ugly-cute" smile, is gaining feverish popularity around the world.

In the era of globalization and digitalization, Chinese collectible trendy toys have become more than just products: they have become “messengers” that subtly sense the mood of the modern world and find their way to the hearts of consumers around the world.

EASTERN BEAUTY ENRICHES GLOBAL TRENDS

The design of trendy Chinese "Chao Wan" toys combines China's rich cultural heritage with current aesthetic and beauty trends. Buyers are also offered limited edition toys and figurines that reflect local flavor. For example, in France, Labubu has become a souvenir magnet featuring characters from the Louvre's masterpieces, sparking widespread interest among tourists. And in Singapore, Labubu, in the form of the Merlion (the country's famous symbol, a mythical creature with the body of a fish and the head of a lion), has become a must-have gift for visitors to the city. Such unusual design solutions skillfully combine Chinese motifs with elements of local culture, making the toys ambassadors of cultural exchange.

Designers of trendy collectible toys, using the traditional Chinese technique of "sunmao" (joining) toy parts, transformed the fluttering ribbons of the celestial dancers from the Buddhist frescoes of Mogao in Dunhuang (Gansu Province) into moving design elements, while in the Thai version of Labubu's toothy smile, they added a reference to Salvador Dalí's surrealist clocks. This creative approach to "desymbolization" seamlessly blends elements of Chinese-style designer toys with elements of cultures from around the world, resulting in an irresistibly appealing fusion.

As I write this, new shipments of Labubu and other designer toys are being shipped to various corners of the globe. Plush, plastic, in the most bizarre shapes and sizes—all of them convey a certain philosophy of life, becoming carriers of a new cultural identity and a new language for international communication. Several leading Chinese designer toy brands have already stocked their products in warehouses of the Cainiao logistics platform, located in the US, Europe, Southeast Asia, and other regions, to take advantage of its comprehensive supply chain services. After online orders are placed by international consumers, parcels from Cainiao's overseas warehouses are typically delivered within 72 hours.

A SYMBOL OF SELF-EXPRESSION FOR A NEW GENERATION

Pop Mart staff have mixed feelings about Laboubu's current global popularity—this once relatively niche intellectual property (IP) has transformed into an iconic pop culture symbol, reflecting the evolving trends of our time. In an era of information explosion and diverse values, young people increasingly seek small communities where they are understood. Thanks to its diversity and openness, pop culture offers young people clear cultural reference points. Popular symbols from different backgrounds are essentially differentiated expressions of youth's desire for self-definition, social belonging, and emotional connection.

"Our customers and artists hail from all corners of the planet. Designer toys become a universal, cross-cultural language and emotional connection that unites consumers around the world," noted Pop Mart's executive.

Over 300 contracted artists from around the world created a vast array of intellectual property for Pop Mart: the funny, mischievous Laboubu, the gruff-looking but genuinely kind and gentle (tsundere, a Japanese term for a simultaneously hostile and overly friendly attitude) Molly, the punk girl Peach Riot, and many others. Each character has their own story and meticulously crafted visuals.

For a Russian girl named Sofia, Labubu has become more than just a collectible toy, but a sweet companion in her life. "Whenever I'm in a bad mood, just look at Labubu's signature smile and all my worries disappear."

When Frenchwoman Caroline saw Pop Mart's "CRYBABY" IP toy on social media, she felt like she was looking at her reflection in a mirror: "This toy embodies everything I hide inside," she admits.

"When overwork is driving you to the brink of exhaustion, just one look at Labubu's face immediately makes you want to smile," adds Kim Min-hee, an office worker in the Republic of Korea. Five different Labubus adorn her desk—her personal "stress-fighting squad."

Brazilian student Rafael put Labouba on his backpack, explaining: “It’s my lucky charm before exams.”

Lin Ning, a 29-year-old Chinese woman who works in Beijing, always hangs a CRYBABY toy on her bag. She says, "The message this character conveys—it's okay to cry, but never give up—resonated deeply with me. As adults, we can express personal feelings like vulnerability and resentment through these sweet, unique characters. Unlike traditional dolls, which only smiled and symbolized beauty and happiness, Pop Mart characters possess much richer and more complex emotions, conveying the spirit of innovation and resilience of today's youth."

Australian Samantha planned a trip to Shanghai out of a love of Chinese designer toys. "I've already visited Pop Mart stores in London, Melbourne, Tokyo, and Singapore," she says. "The Shanghai Pop Mart global flagship is striking in its futuristic design." Before becoming fascinated with trendy Chinese toys, Samantha never imagined she'd be embarking on such a trip.

THE CODE OF CHINESE CULTURE IN THE GLOBAL SPACE

"Labubu allows me to experience Chinese warmth and friendship," write social media users from around the world. Chinese designer toy brands have offered new, energetic approaches to the development of the global cultural industry.

According to the General Administration of Customs (GAC), exports of holiday goods, dolls, and animal toys exceeded 50 billion yuan (approximately 7 billion US dollars) in the first three quarters of 2025. These products were sold to more than 200 countries and regions worldwide, and many are considered national trend products.

As for the future, China's Chaowan industry still has significant room for growth in the global market. According to the "China Designer Toy and Animation Industry Development Report 2024," the Chaowan market in China grew from RMB 6.3 billion in 2015 to RMB 60 billion in 2023. The Chaowan market is expected to continue its rapid growth rate in the near future, growing at over 20 percent annually and reaching RMB 110.1 billion by 2026.

Deputy Director of the National Technical University of China Wang Jun noted that the popularity of these products worldwide reflects the international influence of traditional Chinese culture, demonstrates the creative potential of foreign trade enterprises, and demonstrates the competitiveness of Chinese manufacturing enterprises.

As “Made in China” gradually becomes “Created in China,” Labubu allows more people to understand and become interested in Chinese culture.

Ekaterina Fomenko, a correspondent for Partners magazine, shared her impressions of the Parisian Pop Mart store: "Art, like joy, knows no bounds. Labubu, this amazing creation from the Middle Kingdom, makes us believe these words." -0-

Beijing, November 17 (Xinhua) — In the first 10 months of 2025, the volume of exports and imports through the China-Russia Suifenhe Port of Entry reached 1.24 million tons, up 25 percent year-on-year. This figure has already exceeded the same figure for 2024, setting a new historical high, according to local media reports from Suifenhe Customs.

At the same time, during the reporting period, the number of vehicles entering and exiting the Suifenhe checkpoint increased by 33.9 percent year-on-year to 103,000 units, also reaching a historical high, according to customs statistics.

These remarkable achievements not only demonstrate Suifenhe's strong momentum as a key hub for Sino-Russian trade, but also demonstrate the guaranteed continuity of the open corridor and the enormous potential for trade cooperation in the northern direction, analysts note.

Located on the southeastern edge of Heilongjiang Province (Northeast China) and 230 km from the Russian port of Vladivostok, the 100-year-old Suifenhe border crossing has two first-class national checkpoints – one road and one rail. It serves as China's main land-sea transport corridor with access to the Sea of Japan, as well as a key international corridor for trade and economic contacts in the Northeast Asian region.

In particular, the Suifenhe checkpoint is currently used to export mainly goods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, used cars, and daily necessities.

As it turns out, along with simplifying customs procedures, the Suifenhe checkpoint is constantly enhancing its intelligence to improve the efficiency of inspection and clearance of vehicles crossing the border. Currently, the checkpoint has fully implemented an intelligent customs control system that automatically collects data on inspected vehicles and verifies this data in real time. Robots have also been deployed to inspect the undercarriages of vehicles.

In addition, a one-stop shop service was introduced at the border crossing, where customs officers, border guards, and other checkpoint personnel work together in a coordinated manner, which also significantly increased the speed of inspection for trucks. -0-

60 years with students: the anniversary of the Polytechnic University Students' Trade Union

In 2025, the Student Trade Union of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University celebrates its anniversary. For 60 years, the Student Trade Union (PROF) has remained an integral part of university life, uniting active, proactive, and caring students.

Historical path: from the foundation to strengthening the role of student government

The student trade union was founded on November 16, 1965, when the idea of a separate student body capable of representing student interests was first voiced at the M. I. Kalinin Leningrad Polytechnic Institute's trade union report and election conference. Thus, an independent body—the LPI Student Trade Union—came into being.

From its first years of operation, the Trade Union took on the task of improving students' living conditions: sports and cultural initiatives were developed, the infrastructure of dormitories and cafeterias was improved, and a system of student self-government was formed.

Over the years, the organization has experienced various eras—from the development of traditions and strengthening of its material base in the 1970s and 1980s to its anti-crisis leadership in the 1990s, when the Trade Union became an important voice for students during a period of transformation. In the early 2000s, the Trade Union gained new momentum—modern work formats emerged, an emphasis on developing youth initiatives and student associations, and expanded opportunities for creativity, recreation, and self-realization.

Today, PROF SPbPU is the largest student organization in Northwest Russia.

Today, PROF is one of the largest student organizations in the region and the largest trade union for students in Northwest Russia. It is an independent, non-political, and non-profit organization working exclusively in the interests of students.

PROF's main goal is to be a support system for every student: to protect their rights, provide opportunities, assist in difficult situations, and create conditions for a fulfilling student life.

Key areas of work of PROF

Representation and protection of students' interests Creation and support of university events Organisation of student recreation Support of student associations

A modern PROF is not just a trade union in the classical sense, but also an entire ecosystem of five services:

PROF.help — financial and legal assistance, support in difficult situations, IT developments (including "Digital Pelican"). PROF.life — recreation and leisure activities at the Polytechnic University, health improvement, partner bonuses. PROF.event — creation of large-scale university-level events and competitions, training for organizers, and assistance with the implementation of student projects. PROF.edu — informal education, soft skills development, internships, career support, and educational projects. PROF.union — support for student associations, creation of new clubs and communities.

In recent years, PROF has initiated significant changes at the university:

Reintroducing mandatory winter breaks after winter midterm assessments; successfully and repeatedly promoting initiatives to increase stipends; sending contract students on vacation; ensuring that final qualifying work and coursework are submitted electronically; reinstating the PGAS for first-year master's students; combining the PGAS with the basic stipend and grading it.

PROF is about people. The union exists thanks to a team of students who want to change life at the university for the better. Being a PROF member means participating in major projects, receiving support, making friends, creating your own student community, and having a voice at the university level.

On November 16, the State University of Management held its first Open Day for applicants entering the class of 2026.

The meeting was opened by our university's Vice-Rector, Dmitry Bryukhanov, who introduced those gathered to all aspects of life at the first management university.

"Over its nearly 145-year history, our university has trained over 200,000 specialists in management and industry economics. Today, 10,000 students study at SUM, and over 700 people, including both academics and practicing specialists, are involved in the educational process. We offer 118 educational programs that will help you find your niche in any industry. Our graduates are confident in the labor market, as evidenced by their high rankings in both graduate salaries and education quality, as well as in the first national employment ranking. We look forward to seeing you all on September 1st as SUM students," concluded Dmitry Yuryevich.

Next on stage was Ezizkhan Dzhumayev, Head of the Admissions Department, who told prospective students what they could do to increase their chances of admission.

"Everyone's success begins after graduating from university. But first, you need to get admitted. To do this, you need a valid, verified account on Gosuslugi, containing information about your documents, education, and achievements. To make admission easier, you can start building your portfolio now. Additional points can be earned by: graduating with honors, earning a GTO badge, completing 100 hours of volunteer work, winning various Olympiads, and so on. I'd also like to remind you that the number of places for fee-paying tuition will also be limited, so there may be a competition in which every point counts," the speaker advised.

Vice-Rector Pavel Pavlovsky continued to introduce the achievements and areas of work of the State University of Management in the field of extracurricular activities.

"Many underestimate youth policy, but it's undeniably important for developing competent professionals, which is why we entrust many processes to our students. For example, several years ago, the Ministry of Economic Development proposed creating a special entrepreneurship program for schoolchildren. Our teachers developed it, prepared it, and so on, after which master's students took on the bulk of the work, implementing it at the country's largest children's centers. This year, they also prepared an Olympiad commissioned by RVB (formerly Wildberries). I want to emphasize that learning to be a manager is impossible without practice, and we provide this opportunity. Only this can help students become true leaders and work for the success of our country," concluded Pavel Vladimirovich.

Sergey Shishanov, Head of the Industrial and Educational Partnerships Department at the Central Research Automobile and Automotive Engines Institute (NAMI), discussed his work in the automotive industry and presented the network educational master's program "Production Organizer in the Automotive Industry," implemented by the State University of Management and NAMI.

Elena Likhatskikh, director of the career guidance center, spoke about the Olympiads and preparing for admission.

"Today, we see many students from Moscow's entrepreneurship classes, whom we already know. I'd like to remind you that approximately 220 schools and only 13 universities participate in this program. Therefore, don't forget about the benefits this program provides when applying to partner universities. Now is the time to make a choice and work toward it," Elena Viktorovna advised.

At the end of the official part, the creative group "StuDos" took the stage and soulfully performed the popular song "Mother Earth".

Throughout the day, guests of the State University of Management enjoyed campus tours, consultations with faculty from all institutes and career guidance specialists, meetings with student club activists, and prize drawings.

The 26th largest programming olympiad in Russia was held at Novosibirsk State University.

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

On November 5, Novosibirsk State University hosted the final round of the 26th I.V. Pottosin Open All-Siberian Programming Olympiad. This year, approximately 900 students and schoolchildren, representing 288 teams from 25 universities and 24 schools in three countries, participated in the online qualifying round, which took place in early October. Thirty-seven teams from 25 universities in 14 Russian cities participated in the final round.

Teams of students from the Higher School of Economics took first and second place: FFTilted—Kirill Kudryashov, Fedor Romashov, and Alexander Babin; and BasketBobr—Aleksey Vasiliev, Aleksey Mikhnenko, and Anton Stepanov. Third place went to the team "HFTilted" (ITMO, St. Petersburg–Kazan), consisting of Andrey Matveyev, Kirill Konovalov, and Ildar Gainullin.

According to the organizers, the Olympiad format remains stable, but each year participants are offered something new. On the first day, the teams solved a problem unusual for classic algorithmic Olympiads—they had to implement a football strategy. Such tasks always generate great interest and offer a chance for young and less experienced teams to prove themselves. This year, the second place in the first-day category went to the "Romashki" team from NSU—second-year students from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics (MMF) and the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) at NSU. First place went to a team from Yekaterinburg.

"The Pottosino Olympiad traditionally attracts Russia's strongest teams. Participants include winners of international school and student Olympiads, as well as world champions. This is a unique opportunity for teams from the regions to test their strength against the leaders, gain experience, and gain motivation for further growth," notes Olympiad organizer Tatyana Nesterenko.

Teams from Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan participated in the qualifying round this year. They did not reach the finals due to travel funding difficulties, but interest in the Olympiad among international schoolchildren and students remains high, largely due to its original set of problems, which differs from those of similar competitions.

The organizers emphasize that there are no plans to change the Olympiad format or simplify the tasks next year: the complexity and originality of the tasks remain the hallmark of the competition.

Participation in the Pottosino Olympiad opens up important opportunities for students. It's not only an opportunity to train and compete at a high level, but also a chance to meet peers from different regions and gain exposure to Russia's largest IT companies, which closely monitor the participants of such events.

The Olympiad is traditionally held with the support of leading IT companies. This year, partners included Postgres Professional, YADRO, SHIFT, T-Bank, Kontur, Yandex, and OZON. The winners received cash prizes: first place – 150,000 rubles, second place – 90,000 rubles, and third place – 60,000 rubles.

ENNA, Italy, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) — A commemorative program in Sicily has drawn new attention to one of the earliest ties between China and Europe.

More than 400 scholars, students, and cultural figures from China and Italy gathered this week at Korea University in Enna for a series of events commemorating the 400th anniversary of the birth of Prospero Intorcetta, the 17th-century Italian scholar and missionary who produced one of the first systematic translations of the Confucian classics in Europe.

At the opening ceremony on Monday, Italian students read passages from the "Doctrine of the Mean" in two languages, echoing the ideas that P. Intorcetta once presented to Europe in his masterpiece, "Chinese Wisdom."

University President Cataldo Salerno said P. Intorcetta remains “a key figure in the history of Italian-Chinese friendship,” adding that mutual respect and intercultural understanding “continue to underpin common progress.”

University Rector Paolo Scollo noted that P. Intorcetta's work enriched exchanges between the two civilizations, dating back to the time of Marco Polo. He stated that the university will expand its collaboration with Chinese institutions to foster a new generation of partners.

Chinese Ambassador to Italy Jia Guide emphasized the steady growth of bilateral ties ahead of the celebration of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2025.

From the "three-year sea voyage" of P. Intorcetta's time to today's frequent direct flights between the two countries, connectivity has transformed cultural exchange while preserving its spirit, said Jia Guide.

P. Intorcetta's story touched many of the event's participants. Some expressed appreciation for the historical roots of Chinese-Italian interaction. "Both cultures value learning and ethics," said Stefano Ciroli, a 20-year-old local student. "This makes dialogue not only possible but necessary."

According to Wang Qin, the Chinese director of the university's Confucius Institute, the program, organized jointly with local academic partners, will run until mid-December. Seminars will be held in several Italian cities on topics such as the dialogue of civilizations and the dissemination of Confucian thought in the Latin world.

MANILA, November 17 (Xinhua) — About 650,000 Filipinos on Sunday held a three-day anti-corruption rally at a major city park, calling for "transparency for a better democracy" amid an investigation into alleged multi-billion-dollar fraud in flood control projects.

The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that approximately 650,000 people had gathered at the park by Sunday afternoon. The protesters demanded a thorough and transparent investigation into alleged violations in flood control projects and the prosecution of officials, lawmakers, and contractors accused of embezzling billions of pesos from real or fictitious projects.

Meanwhile, about 2,000 people held a separate anti-corruption rally along the main highway.

Acting Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office Dave Gomez said Sunday that Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. is closely monitoring the situation.

Around 16,000 police officers were deployed to maintain order. Sunday's rally was the latest in a wave of anti-corruption protests in recent months. –0–
