SEOUL, December 2 (Xinhua) — Republic of Korea (ROK) President Lee Jae-myung on Tuesday proposed re-establishing communication channels with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), according to multiple local media reports.

He made the statement at an event of the Consultative Council for the Peaceful and Democratic Unification of the Korean Peninsula.

Lee Jae-myung stressed that he will strive for a denuclearized status for the Korean Peninsula and an end to the state of war on the peninsula.

The Korean Peninsula remains formally in a state of war, as the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an armistice rather than a peace treaty. –0–

SHANGHAI, December 2 (Xinhua) — Imagine watching a car race on your computer screen and feeling as if the cars were jumping into your room, remaining clearly visible even as you move from side to side in front of your desk. What's most intriguing: this effect is possible without the use of 3D glasses or special wearable devices.

Now this immersive experience is one step closer to reality thanks to new display technology developed by Chinese researchers.

The system, dubbed EyeReal, uses artificial intelligence (AI) to create 3D images without glasses on desktop-sized monitors, thereby overcoming a problem that has plagued consumer electronics for decades. This is described in a recent article published in the journal Nature.

According to the article, this display offers a 100-degree field of view with Full HD resolution. This allows the viewer to move around while watching while maintaining the clarity of 3D effects, something that previous technologies could only achieve on displays that were much smaller or had limited viewing angles.

A team of researchers from the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Lab and Fudan University, two institutions located in the eastern Chinese metropolis of Shanghai, have applied an AI-based approach that utilizes eye tracking and dynamic image optimization using a minimalist three-layer LCD panel structure. This development has potential for future consumer use cases.

The study found that the display offers a high resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of over 50 frames per second, making the image smooth and natural.

“Our device has potential applications in areas such as education, 3D design, and virtual reality,” the researchers said. -0-

URUMQI, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) — The Kashgar section of the free trade zone (FTZ) in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region recently completed its first export leasing transaction through a bonded zone with special tax and customs status.

This deal was a key step for the Kashgar section of the FTZ in expanding the range of bonded services and enhancing trade convenience and liberalization, the FTZ administration noted.

As it turns out, the lessee was a Kyrgyz company. The 18-month lease included a batch of printers provided by a Kashgar-based company. They have already been delivered to Bishkek and safely handed over to the lessee. The entire transaction was deemed orderly and efficient.

Jiang Haitao, Deputy Director of the Kashgar Prefectural Commerce Department, noted that the bonded zone export leasing scheme not only opened an acceptable path for exploring new “bonded services plus” business models in the Xinjiang FTZ, but also offered businesses in Kyrgyzstan and other Central Asian countries more flexible options for using the necessary equipment.

Beijing, December 2 (Xinhua) — The first group of Chinese citizens planning to visit Russia under the visa-free regime arrived at the Heihe checkpoint in Heilongjiang Province, northeast China, on Tuesday. Russia officially announced the establishment of a visa-free regime for Chinese citizens yesterday, allowing them to stay in the country for up to 30 days without a visa. This regime will be in effect until September 14, 2026.

Heihe, China, and Blagoveshchensk, Russia, are separated by the Heilongjiang (Amur) River. The minimum distance between them is just over 700 meters. According to the news portal chinanews.com.cn, on Tuesday morning, a long line of Chinese tourists formed at the departure hall of the Heihe checkpoint, many of whom were from the country's southern provinces, where snow is rare.

As one tourist from Zhejiang Province stated, "At first, we didn't know that Russia had introduced a visa-free regime for Chinese citizens. We were only informed about it upon arrival at the checkpoint. It's great that border control will now be much easier." Another tourist from Jiangsu Province was also delighted with the visa-free regime: "We learned about the visa-free regime on the news, and we were able to take advantage of it today. Traveling to Russia with just a passport is very convenient and pleasant!"

According to checkpoint officials, the Heihe section of the Heilongjiang River is currently not frozen, so passengers are transported between the two countries by hovercraft.

On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a decree allowing Chinese citizens to travel to Russia visa-free for stays of up to 30 days until September 14, 2026. The decree comes into effect on the day it is signed—December 1.

On September 2, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the introduction of a trial 30-day visa-free regime for one year (from September 15, 2025 to September 14, 2026) for holders of ordinary passports. This applies to those planning trips to China for tourism and business purposes, as well as to participate in humanitarian exchanges, visit relatives, or for transit purposes. -0-

Caracas, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) — Venezuela does not want a "slave world," President Nicolas Maduro told supporters on Monday, noting that the United States has been "testing" the country with its military presence for months.

"We want peace, but a peace with sovereignty, a peace of equality, a peace with freedom; we do not want a slave or a colonial world. We will never be a colony, we will never be slaves," N. Maduro emphasized, noting that the 22-week US military "aggression" could be characterized as "psychological terrorism."

N. Maduro emphasized that national power is based on the participation of citizens and “is based on the enormous strength of its people, their consciousness, their institutions, their rifles, and their determination to build their homeland, despite any difficulties.”

Strengthening this social fabric, he said, makes national power “invulnerable, eternal, and enduring.”

N. Maduro stated that the goal is to maintain “peace with dignity,” while defending the republic and the country’s political autonomy.

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump has increased pressure on Venezuela by increasing its naval presence in the Caribbean and targeting vessels suspected of drug smuggling since September. On Saturday, he issued warnings to stay away from Venezuelan airspace.

Venezuela has revoked the operating permits of six major international airlines that suspended flights to the country following a warning from the US Federal Aviation Administration.

N. Maduro and his government deny all criminal charges and say the United States is seeking regime change to gain control of Venezuela's vast natural resources, including oil.

According to media reports, during a telephone conversation on November 21, D. Trump presented N. Maduro with an ultimatum, demanding that he leave Venezuela.

Since early September, US forces have carried out at least 21 strikes on suspected drug trafficking vessels in the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean, killing at least 83 people. –0–

The educational exhibition "Russian Universities – The Best Choice," organized by the Rossotrudnichestvo office, was a successful success at the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC) in Hanoi and a number of leading Vietnamese educational institutions. SPbPU was one of the participants in this large-scale event, which aimed to provide career guidance and present the opportunities offered by Russian higher education to Vietnamese applicants and partners. SPbPU was represented by Elena Selivanova, a leading specialist at the Graduate School of Cyber-Physical Systems Management, and Zhanna Trunkova, a leading advertising manager at the Center for International Recruitment and Communications.

The Polytechnic University delegation participated in a comprehensive program that included not only the traditional exhibition at the Russian Center for Science and Culture but also a series of field trips to the provinces. One of the first significant events was a meeting at the Hanoi University of Business and Technology (HUBT). Along with colleagues from other leading Russian universities, SPbPU representatives discussed prospects for inter-university cooperation with HUBT leadership, including Vice-Rector Tran Duc Minh and Dean of the Faculty of Russian Language Le Thanh Van. The meeting with students, who eagerly explored HUBT's educational programs, proved particularly productive. Following the presentations, the students asked questions about admission, studying, and life in Russia.

Strengthening partnerships in Ninh Binh Province was an important focus for the SPbPU delegation. University representatives, along with Vladimir Murashkin, Director of the Russian Centre for Science and Culture, met with the leadership of the provincial Department of Education and Personnel Training. During the meeting with Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of the Department, and Bui Van Khiet, Deputy Director, steps to develop cooperation were discussed, including expanding academic exchanges, introducing dual degree programs, and organizing joint career guidance.

Vladimir Murashkin, Director of the Russian Centre for Science and Culture, thanked his Vietnamese colleagues and confirmed the readiness of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Vietnam to continue supporting Russian universities' initiatives to popularize and promote Russian education in Vietnam.

The Polytechnic University delegation then held a series of meetings with gifted students. The presentations took place at specialized boarding schools renowned for their strong preparation: Luong Van Thuy, Bien Hoa, and Le Hong Phong. At Le Hong Phong School, where Russian is studied in depth, the students enthusiastically responded to the Polytechnic University presentation. The students, many of whom dream of studying in Russia, received consultations from SPbPU representatives on training programs, entrance examinations, and opportunities to participate in summer schools. The Bien Hoa School also listened with equal interest to the Polytechnic University guests. Its director, Nguyen Thi Bic Thanh, expressed her willingness to sign memoranda of understanding with Russian universities to promote the Russian language and education.

The program culminated in a final event at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, timed to coincide with World Science Day for Peace and Development, proclaimed by UNESCO. At the expert session "Russian-Vietnamese Scientific and Educational Cooperation for Vietnam's Breakthrough Development," Elena Selivanova presented a paper on the highly topical issue of "Practice-Oriented Education in Cyber-Physical Systems." The audience's attention was proof of the university's educational programs' alignment with global trends and the challenges of Vietnam's technological development in its new phase—the "Era of National Rise."

SPbPU's participation in the "Russian Universities – The Best Choice" exhibition once again confirmed its status as a flagship university in engineering education, training highly qualified personnel not only for Russia but also for other countries, including Vietnam, strengthening Russian-Vietnamese scientific and educational ties.
