Islamabad, December 3 (Xinhua) — At least three police officers were killed and one was injured on Wednesday when a police vehicle was blown up in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwestern Pakistan, local police said.

A police officer, who wished to remain anonymous, told Xinhua that the police unit was on patrol at the time of the incident.

Unknown terrorists threw a hand grenade at the police and opened fire on them, killing three police officers.

Police, security forces and rescue teams arrived at the scene and transported the bodies of the dead and injured to a nearby hospital.

It was previously reported that the police car exploded due to a bomb. However, police confirmed that a hand grenade was used and that the car was hit with gunfire.

Security forces and police cordoned off the area and began a search operation.

Beijing, December 3 (Xinhua) — Mainland China calls on Japan to reflect deeply on its historical culpability and retract its erroneous statements, State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhang Han said on Wednesday.

"The Japanese side should stop interfering in China's internal affairs, strictly adhere to the one-China principle, and fulfill its political commitments to China through concrete actions," Zhang Han said, speaking at a regular departmental press conference.

Zhang Han emphasized that Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's erroneous remarks regarding Taiwan constitute interference in China's internal affairs, sending a false signal to separatist forces seeking "Taiwan independence," and undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait region.

Noting that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the liberation of Taiwan from Japanese occupation and the return of the island to China, as well as the 82nd anniversary of the issuance of the Cairo Declaration, Zhang Han said that a number of international legal documents, including the Cairo Declaration, have clearly affirmed China's sovereignty over Taiwan from the perspective of international law.

“Compliance with relevant regulations is an obligation under international law that Japan must assume,” she added.

"Taiwan is Chinese Taiwan. Taiwan has never been a state and never will be," she emphasized. "All compatriots on both sides of the Strait belong to the Chinese nation and are all Chinese. Taiwan's future can only be decided jointly by the more than 1.4 billion Chinese people, including Taiwan compatriots," Zhang Han concluded. -0-

CARACAS, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) — Colombia's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday expressed deep concern over U.S. President Donald Trump's recent remarks about possible military action against Colombia under the pretext of fighting drug trafficking.

In its statement, the department reiterated Colombia's strong rejection of any external threats of aggression that undermine the dignity, territorial integrity and national sovereignty of the Colombian people.

The statement said Colombia remains committed to combating drug trafficking in a comprehensive, balanced, multidisciplinary and evidence-based manner, while respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms, in accordance with the principle of shared responsibility.

The statement also calls for unity and solidarity among Latin American and Caribbean countries so that the region can unite against any external intervention aimed at undermining sovereignty.

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump told reporters at the White House that any country smuggling drugs into the United States could be attacked, after raising concerns about cocaine from Colombia.

Since early September, the US has carried out at least 21 strikes on suspected narco-ships in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific, including Colombian vessels, killing more than 83 people. –0–

Beijing, December 3 (Xinhua) — The Zhuque-3 reusable launch vehicle launched Wednesday from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China. The spacecraft's second stage reached its planned orbit, but the first stage recovery experiment failed.

The Zhuque-3 rocket was launched from the Dongfeng Commercial Space Innovation Test Zone.

During this mission, the first stage of the rocket was also tested for recovery. However, during the experiment, an unplanned fire occurred, preventing the first stage from landing softly on the ground and leading to the experiment's failure. An investigation into the cause of the incident is currently underway.

As a reminder, Zhuque-3 is a next-generation rocket developed independently by LandSpace. It uses liquid oxygen and methane, ensuring low flight costs, high payload capacity, and reusability.

Pentagon chief denies seeing alleged second strike during Caribbean operation

WASHINGTON, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) — U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday denied reports that he witnessed a second strike in the Caribbean Sea that allegedly killed survivors of the first strike, blaming it on the "fog of war."

P. Hegseth came under intense pressure after The Washington Post reported Friday that he gave verbal orders to "kill everyone" aboard ships suspected of drug trafficking before the September 2 strike—the first known U.S. strike on a vessel in Latin American international waters. Two survivors, clinging to the burning hull after the first strike, were allegedly killed in the second strike.

Asked at the White House whether he had seen survivors of the alleged second strike, P. Hegseth said he had watched the first strike live, but had not seen the subsequent attack or any survivors.

“I personally didn’t see any survivors… because the ship was engulfed in flames,” he said. “It exploded, there was fire and smoke, you couldn’t see anything… It’s called the ‘fog of war.’”

On Tuesday, Pentagon spokeswoman Kingsley Wilson also denied the Washington Post report, calling the claim "completely fabricated."

"He never said that," Wilson said at a press briefing, quoting White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt. "The decision to strike the 'narco-ship' again was made by Admiral Bradley, acting under clear and long-standing authority, to ensure the destruction of the boat and the elimination of the threat to the United States."

Over the weekend, the Republican-led Armed Services Committees in both the House and Senate announced a bipartisan investigation into the second US strike, which reportedly aimed to kill survivors of the first strike.

As a reminder, since the beginning of September, the Pentagon has carried out more than 20 strikes on ships suspected of being involved in drug trafficking in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of more than 80 people on board. –0–

Washington, December 3 (Xinhua) — The Trump administration has suspended immigration applications, including for green cards and citizenship, from natives of 19 countries that were subject to entry restrictions to the United States earlier this year, American media reported on Tuesday.

On Monday, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) ordered employees to "pause final review of all cases" involving citizens of 19 countries subject to restrictions. This was reported by CBS News, citing an internal agency memo. The memo notes that the suspension is a "temporary measure" while the administration develops new rules for vetting immigrants.

The New York Times writes that the list of 19 countries includes some of the world's poorest and most unstable states.

As a reminder, two US National Guard soldiers were attacked in Washington last week. The suspect is a 29-year-old Afghan national who received asylum in April.

D. Trump later wrote on social media that the United States would “permanently stop” immigration from all “third world countries,” and the State Department announced it would suspend visas for holders of Afghan passports.

In June, the White House completely restricted entry for citizens of 12 countries: Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

The US administration has also partially restricted entry for citizens of seven countries: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela. –0–
